How is the powder different from liquid squid ink?

Black Hut Squid Ink Powder is the same natural squid ink with the water removed, concentrated about 5x—so 1g of powder does the work of roughly 5g of liquid. It adds color and umami without adding moisture, which matters in dough and dry blends.

How much powder do I use?

Adjust the amount based on your base ingredients ● Solid / Dry Ingredients (Dough, Flour, Rice, Meat): Use 1g–3g of powder per 100g of ingredients. ● Liquid Ingredients (Soups, Stocks, Sauces): Use 3g–5g of powder per 100ml of liquid.

How do I dissolve it without lumps?

Whisk the powder into a small amount of warm liquid first to make a smooth paste, then stir that into the full dish. For dry doughs, sift it in with the flour before adding water.

Does it stain kitchen utensils or hands?

Like all high-purity natural food pigments, concentrated squid ink powder will color surfaces easily. Wipe down stainless steel, glass, or cutting boards immediately with soap and water after cooking.

How should I store it?

The powder keeps for 3 years. Just keep the resealable pouch closed in a cool, dry place.
