Does the case impact the units functionality? Are things like range, sensitivity and/or false/no detection an issue since it covers the unit.

Not in any way that I know of. I've used it for a few hundred miles with it and seems to work great. That said, I've never used the Varia without it.

Can you charge the Varia with this case on? Or, does it have to be removed.

The case DOES NOT need to be removed to charge the unit. This is a great value and provides peace of mind. Buy it! You won’t be disappointed.
