A great lunch companion
If you like to pack hot soup or stew on a cold day... this is a great product. I recommend buying more than one. The capacity is enough for a hearty stew lunch for one person. But pack a second one for a hot drink. It kept my stew piping hot for six hours sitting there in the cold vehicle while I was out snowmobiling all morning. AND It also keeps drinks ice cold. The ice cold thermal factor actually works better than the hot factor. I put ice cubes in overnight at room temperature and they were hardly melted in the morning. I really like the wide mouth, easy to clean. Although you can also wash in dishwasher rack too, although water leaks into the base just a little because of the hot water jets. (it leaks in where the black bottom is against the stainless steel.) But that isn't a problem... I just pop off the base and let it dry out. Can be snapped back on easy enough. And these units are perfect to take ANYWHERE! A great product by Thermos brand.

My school- aged daughter is super pleased with this
I purchased this for my daughter, as she loves having hot soup for lunch. She loves, loves it. It does perform very well: no leaks, plenty of storage capacity (roughly equal to a typical soup bowl that I have at home), and keeps food very nearly the same temperature as when I filled the jar. In fact, the first time I filled it my daughter complained that the soup was TOO hot. I had over-heated it fearing that it would cool off too much by the time she got a chance to eat it. Now I know to heat food only as hot as I know she likes it, and no more. Some observations: From the picture, I had guessed that the lid could be used as a small cup. This is not so, as the lid is insulated as well. The jar opening, is just a bit narrower than I thought it would be, but not so narrow that it is impractical for a normal length spoon or fork to reach all the way down to the bottom, so this is not a problem. Lastly, it is a bit heavy and bulky, but given the quality, performance, and the large 16 oz. capacity, this is a small concession to make. I would buy this product again, and with no regrets.

Very good thermos
I ordered 2 of these for my kids, one is 16 the other 11. They both love them. We make a lot of homemade soup and they like to take it to school for lunch. They are rugged and work very well. The soup is still very hot at the kids lunch hours, so much so that the 11 yr old has asked that his soup not be heated up to high to start. Even after a full day at school if they bring any home it is still warm. I thought at 1st they were a little pricey but now that we have used them for awhile, i think it was well worth it. The opening is large so you can pour things in with out making a mess. It will hold a whole can of soup as well. I am glad we made the purchase.

Food stays hot, but hard to clean
The food does stay hot...well, maybe not hot, but hotter than our old food jar. I make pasta and parmesan cheese for my son everyday for school and I find it's one of the harder foods to keep hot. I always pre-warm the container with hot water while the pasta cooks. He says this is a big improvement over our last one. I make it at 6am and he eats it around 11:30. I am certain that a denser food would stay hotter longer. The downsides are two that I have seen mentioned here. One is that the opening is not as wide as you might expect. It makes cleaning trickier, especially with the pasta and cheese which sticks like glue by the time he gets home from school. Pre-soaking helps some. I am guessing that cleaning up after soups would probably not be a problem. The second tricky issue is getting the lid on correctly. You have to make sure it is seated properly before screwing it down all the way. If not, it will be off just enough to have leaks or premature cooling of your food. All in all it does the job, but I would be thrilled if the mouth was wider. It seems very sturdy and up to the abuse a middle schooler can put it though.

It's a thermos jar
It works as advertised... keeps hot foods hot, or cold foods cold. Double walled vacuum container minimizes heat transfer from contents to ambient. The only change I'd like to see is continuing the stainless inner liner higher so that the lid sealing surface could be higher. The image looks like there should be lots of room inside, but the inner volume only goes to the where the shiny stainless loop (the lanyard attachment point). All that cap space is wasted. Poor lid threads design, which allows for cross threading the cap (which causes leakage). Overall, I'd rate it an average... could have been better. Update: Ok, I gave this to my mom who camps a lot. She uses it for Thermos Cooking (google it). She loves it. She tosses in a little meat, some rice and beans, and fills it with hot water. Seals it and lets it set all afternoon. When she opens it up, it's cooked and ready to eat! It suits her needs much better than it did mine. I'm raising the rating to 5 stars based on her enthusiastic feedback.

Doesn't Keep Food Hot
Years ago my husband owned a wide-mouth Thermos jar that I really liked. It kept food hot for a long time, even when kept outdoors. Since so many of us at work line up to use the microwave at lunch time, I thought I would heat my lunch at home and take it to work. I couldn't find my husband's old Thermos. I have always liked Thermos products, I wanted another Thermos wide-mouth jar. The reviews on this produce were good, so despite the price I bought it. I'm disappointed. While the food at the bottom of the jar stays hot, it does not keep food as hot near the top of the jar as I would like. To use it I fill the jar with boiling water and cap it while I heat my meal. Then I quickly empty the jar and slide in the food. When I go to eat about six hours later, the food at the top of the jar is warm, not hot. I don't like the lid. It should help keep the food hot. I also have trouble screwing it on straight and frequently need two or three attempts to get is screwed on correctly. If this Thermos jar gets lost, I would not buy this product again.

Excelente compra.

This Thermos is worth the money. It seals well and keeps food at a good temperature for a long time. It has held up well to months of transport and use by teenagers using it to take lunches to school, tossing it in their knapsacks, in their lockers, etc. Easy to keep clean; just remember to take off the seal for cleaning, too.

I bought this for hill-walking and to take to work. It keeps the food warm and fresh all-day. I would recommend this from my experience. A little bit more expensive than other food flasks available, but you know why once you have used it.

I'm enjoying my thermos so far. It's durable, keeps things warm, doesn't spill. No complaints, although I do wish it kept things a little bit hotter for a little bit longer, but then again I tend to need it to stay hot for quite a few hours.
