Thanks for your question. Yes, we recommend that you first drill the holes in the handrail with a 5/32" drill bit. Then tap the threads in the hole with a 3/16" screw. Finally, put the 3/16" screw in.

I see ha33 b4 to post the end straight into a wall; however, i'd like to post beside a wall so that i can use for support down. is this possible?

For the HT10 handrail, if you want to connect it to the wall on level part, we do recommend you use it with HA33.And also, you can install a post near the wall on the angle part.Should you have any further questions, please feel free to write to us so that we can help you better.
