This piece of gear fills the need I designed into my specific kit perfectly. It strikes up an ignition quickly, reliably & easily. It takes up more room than people used to a simple 1/2"x6" ferro rod does. But, for the specific kit I created to meet a very specific need, it's perfect! Simplicity, reliability, durability and ease of use fits a whole lot of scenarios. Many I hope never to catch myself in, but, many of them I already have in the past, which is why it will serve what I am requiring perfectly. I have had a ferro rod paired with a Jute Tinder Wick for a long time. This "supersized" version and its combo-ed design is a no-brainer. It's price, for me, made it too good to pass up.

This tool is fantastic, I tested it, haven't used it in a real world situation yet. It puts out a lot of good hot sparks, and the rope burns strong like a little torch. I trust this will work to get a real fire going. Pull the string in and the fire is out. I bought the 4" to save a little space and I have small hands. I wish I got the 6" for a bit more "runway" in scraping the rod. Either way, this thing will do the trick, will be bringing this on our next campout!

This entire set up is well above average and works well in all conditions. Ive used it in wet and windy conditions and it worked very well. Takes up next to no space. However I ordered the large option and was sent the small. There is a difference that is significant. Make sure you are getting what the discription says bc I did not get the selection I made!

this was more or less one of my unnecessary purchases, i like camping , i like the outdoors and bonfires so naturally i added to cart when i came across this item. the truth is i really liked it after first trying to start a fire with it, it sparks a lot the ferro rod is huge easy to spark it has a large striker contoured to fero rod and it has serrated tip to rough up the jute rope it burns real hot and depending on how much you feed through , it has slots of rope and all comes tide together making hard to miss placed necessary items. with that said its heavy, the weight is probably this things only downfall or it would go on every backpack overnight hiking trip with me still goes to EVERY car camping trip. it has this way of feeding just enough jute thought so that only that which is chosen burns once it gets to the holder the flame goes out. the way i have liked using this item is i build my pieces of wood into what ever shape i like and strike a flame place if under my kindle and leave it i come back in few minutes and everything is lit , in the very few cases where the place i chose was too wet and did not light (2times) i simply came back to my wick burning out after burning to the chosen set point, i love this product i would recommend to anyone looking for a for sure cool way to start that camp fire. to the vender please make a less weight more backpackable version lighters are cool but this kick @ if you are looking to take the family out or the boys and get a real outdoors feel i would recommend this not the only way to start a fire but really cool and effortless one

This is the real deal. My grandsons (ages 7 and 10) are all into the survival craze. They had fire starters before but it is very hard at their age to get the fire going. The cord that is attached made it so easy (almost too easy haha.) for them to start a fire and create a torch to get the bigger fire started. They loved it!

At first, this survival torch kind of drove me nuts because I couldn’t figure out how everyone was lighting it so easily in videos. I thought it was way more complicated than it needed to be. Turns out, once I angled it straight up against a flat surface, bent the rope toward the spark, and struck downward, it worked perfectly. Every time. Seriously, that little adjustment made all the difference. Now that I know how to use it properly, I think it’s really cool. I’m honestly glad I didn’t give up on it. I love this thing, and I’ll definitely be bringing it with me on my next camping trip. It creates a lot of spark for such a small tool. It fits in my pocket without being bulky and it’s a great price when it’s on sale.

This works great. Take your time to make sure you frail the ends good then spark away. I show my students how it works and that it’s a quality product 👍🏼

When things are life threating and your motor skills are low because hyperthermia has set in this is the tool to light your fire. Large and easy for your hands to operate. If you fall through a ice covered beaver pond in sub zero like I did you will not mind the weight. It is heavy and large but this is good in a very serious life threatening situation. Your hands do not work like normal when our life threatening enemy The Cold is your companion. Small firestarters are fine in weather above 0 but when push comes to shove then this is the tool to use to light a fire to stay alive. By the way money does not burn well use birch bark. Works exactly as described. Incredibly easy to start a fire, even when wet. Never needed more than 2 strikes to get it to ignite.
