I’ve used this in some seriously buggy environments, including parts of the Florida Trail and Northern Ontario in the summer. In both cases, the bugs were absolutely out in force — constantly buzzing around my head — but none were biting my face while I was wearing this. Like any mesh covering, you’ll feel slightly warmer with it on, but the airflow is actually quite good. It’s breathable enough that it doesn’t feel suffocating, even during active hiking. Another big plus is how small and lightweight it packs down. It folds up easily and doesn’t take up much space in my pack, which makes it easy to justify carrying “just in case.” If you hike in high-bug areas, this is a very effective and practical piece of gear.

The Sea to Summit Permethrin-Treated Mosquito Head Net is a must-have for anyone venturing into mosquito-infested areas. This head net has become an essential part of my outdoor gear, providing reliable protection against insects and bugs. The quality of this head net is outstanding. The fine mesh effectively keeps even the tiniest insects at bay, ensuring a bug-free experience. The permethrin treatment adds an extra layer of defense, repelling mosquitoes and other bothersome critters. Comfort is a top priority with this head net. The lightweight and breathable mesh design allow for excellent airflow, preventing discomfort and overheating. The elasticized drawcord ensures a secure fit, keeping the net in place without feeling restrictive. What sets this head net apart is its versatility. It fits comfortably over most hats and caps, making it compatible with various headwear options. Whether I'm hiking, camping, or fishing, this head net provides reliable protection without obstructing my vision. The permethrin treatment is a game-changer. It provides long-lasting insect repellency, eliminating the need for additional bug sprays or lotions. I appreciate the peace of mind knowing that I'm protected from disease-carrying mosquitoes and other pests.

I always feel like Meredith from the Parent Trap when I come across other hikers while wearing this, but the protection it provides from mosquitoes makes it completely worth it. While my companions slap at their necks and faces, I sit smugly under my little net. You may be wondering about this "Insect Shield." I was skeptical, and really just bought this for the net. However, on the head net's first outing, I noticed that the mosquitoes swarming around me would approach, hover, and then leave without actually running into the head net. Insect shield? Maybe. Since then I have noticed a few mosquitoes landing on the net, so maybe the insect shield is wearing off. Just an anecdotal observation that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I usually wear the net with a hat, but I have also worn it successfully without a hat. It is loose enough to eat small compact things like candy bars without taking it off. Sometimes it gets caught in trees when I venture into dense vegetation, but it is remarkably strong, and often takes little leaves or branches with it. It has held up without tears or other failure since I bought it in early 2013. I have used it so far on one week-long trip, at least one weekend trip, and a couple of day trips. Also, it comes with a cute little stuff sack. This is useful because otherwise the head net would be a mess in my pack, but mostly I like the stuff sack because it is so very cute. You don't really see the net when you're wearing it-- because it's black, you see through it, though everything is a little brighter when you take it off. Edit 1/29/15: I still have this, it is still in good shape, everything said above is still true, except I have worn it on a few more trips.

Worked as expected, keeping the bugs out of my face. It is very lightweight, and the black color I think makes it easier to see through. Fit was good, I wore it with a baseball cap style hat.

This is the second mosquito net I’ve purchased from this company - my dogs had a party with the first one and destroyed it. These are the BEST nets I’ve ever used and I’m from Alaska so that’s saying ALOT. They are made of a soft but very sturdy fine net that keeps even tiny knats out. I work outside after dark wearing one with a headlamp and the bugs swarm the light but are stopped by the netting. The net is generous and fits over my hat or ball cap and still covers my neck and sits on my shoulders keeping any bugs from slipping under. You can also see well though it. It’s my new favorite piece of outdoor and gardening kit. Don’t dither - just buy this one.
