LD Carlson 6160A Calcium Carbonate (Chalk) - 1 lb.

This stuff works great for making chalk paint and furniture paint. For very smooth furniture paint that will give you a professional look use one quart of exterior flat paint, 2-3 table spoons of calcium carbonate, and 1/4 quart of water based polycrylic. apply in thin coats. If you are patient and want a really smooth look with no brush marks, use three coats. For a quicker finish you can use two coats. If you want a semi transparent look with wood grain showing through, use half quart paint to half quart of polycrylic and apply one coat picking up very little paint on your brush as you apply. The calcium carbonate makes the flow much easier. When fully dry apply your favor protection clear coat and you will have great looking painted furniture.

Used this to mix into some latex house paint to make DIY “chalk” paint. Painted the base of my dining table and it worked really well! I rated the presentation / packaging a four because it did come in a nice thick plastic bag, but I’d prefer if it could be a zip lock bag since I didn’t use all the contents at once so I had to tape up the bag. It’s not a big deal though. Maybe I’ll transfer the powder to a jar or something. My sister joked that I’m making Rolaids paint because calcium carbonate is the main ingredient in Rolaids. :-)

This is a great product. The partice size is super fine. Absolutely no larger particles that can be seen or felt. Great for chalk paint. Willie X

I purchased this to make some white chalk paint and have some leftover to make more in another color. I did 1 quart of white paint to 1 cup of powder and 1/4 cup of water. Works so well. Got the recipe off pinterest. I put the remainder in an airtight container and have a bunch left to make other colors. So worth the money!

I got tired of spending a ton of money on premade chalk paint so I watched a ton of videos on it and decided to try to make my own with calcium carbonate. It's so easy and has yielded a great result. I just measure it out and mix it with warm water and then fold that into latex paint, blend well and voila! Chalk paint.

This is exactly what you need for DIY chalk paint I used 8 Oz paint 2 tbsp calcium carbonate and 1 tbsp of water. The initial purchase of this plus the paint is more than the cost of a quart of name brand chalk paint, however, since you are only using 2 tbsp per 8 Oz (so 8 tbsp for a whole quart) and there is one pound of CC you will be able to make your own chalk paint in whatever color you want for cheaper than you can buy it at a store or have it shipped. I am sure there are other applications to this product, but I specifically purchased it for chalk paint *picture of partially finished chalk paint cabinet door for a small hutch*

I used this product to repaint my old oak table. It turned out fantastic. I was surprised by how small the amount was, so pay attention to the weight in the bag.
