I bought these for myself. I'm 37 years old. They were difficult to open. Some broke in smaller pieces but we're still really cool. I love all things crystals & stones. I will for sure purchase again. You can't guarantee with nature, so it can be a hit or miss. 2 of mine were solid, but still looked like clear quartz. I'm happy.

My husband loves these. I bought them for his birthday and he was so excited he cracked them all at once just after opening them. The geodes were pretty and a nice size. I only wish they were more colorful. The ones I received were mostly white. I did have one that was slightly brown. I can't wait to get more.

We have only opened the smallest geode using the pointed end of the tool shown in the picture. He found it easy to open. However, we tried to open one of the larger ones, but it proved to be more challenging. I’m glad I bought the tools because using a hammer alone wouldn’t have worked well. We’re excited to open the rest of them. I did not find the process messy. Updated 3/16/26 One geode was solid. My son lost interest before I realized it was solid because he was not able to crack it open. I suggest if one seems too difficult, move on and return to it last. I still recommend this; it was a fun activity, plus the sparkly geodes are easy to display and make a great keepsake. Hope this is helpful!

It was hard for me to decide on how to rate this. I am an adult and I struggled to open all of mine. Some still only have a corner exposed. I had a hammer, chisel, and tried out several different tools in my house. Most of the tools I used are worn down and broken now FYI. I ended up having the most success hammering them as hard as possible on the concrete. I will say, I've read somewhere that the most difficult to open geodes tend to be the prettiest. My pictures don't do any justice, but mine are extremely beautiful and packed full of beautiful white quartz. One of them, I'm not sure of what it is, I see a little quartz on the edge mixed with pink and grey sparkly sediment filling the cross section. I am extremely pleased with the quality of what I have seen so far. I am rating 4 stars because I didn't expect it to be this difficult based on the description and other reviews. However, I do want to emphasize that the quality of the crystals inside have far exceeded my expectations. I also think any kid would have fun hammering these open with reckless abandon. Some specialized tools or other methods probably would have benefited me more with this activity.

A fun kid activity but definitely need a strong adult to crack them open !

3 out of 5. A 5 pack of jumbo Geodes. 1 pink, 4 clear. 2 did not crack open, at all. One clear one, was nearly solid. The pink one and one clear one cracked open and were not bad, but not great. Paid $40, worth about $25 max.

Christmas gift for a nephew; he loved it!

My son purchased this as a gift for his younger sister as she has a developing interest in geology. The concept was super cool the actual product failed to meet expectations. 1) The geodes were extremely difficult to split using the methods suggested by the instructions. One geode. We were unable to split one of the geodes at all. 2) One of the “geodes” was, in fact, a rock. Nothing in the center. Just a run of the mill circular rock. Pretty but not what was advertised. 3) There was 0 variety across the geodes. They were all exactly the same. If the kit is being advertised as something with various types of geodes I would expect to find at least two variations across the 5 “jumbo” geodes we received. There was none. Ultimately this was a waste of $35. My daughter was disappointed by the experience and the product. We would have done better to spend the money at a “mining” experience where she would, at the very least, have gotten variety and a little fun. This kit, sadly, provided neither.

I’ve gotten great pieces from this buy, I’ve purchased this a couple of times. Gotten clear, rose, black and blue quarts geodes.

Got these for my youngest as he wanted something chonky, they are about the size of a snowball for an adults hand. Loads of fun in them, and value for money, the colors have not disappointed

Wir haben 5 große Geoden bekommen, 4 davon haben wir bereits geknackt. Eine war besonders groß (ausgestreckte Erwachsenenhand) und das ist bisher auf die Einzige, bei der es einen richtigen Hohlraum gab. Eine war gefüllt, die anderen hatten alle sehr große Kristalle. ACHTUNG beim Zerschlagen auf Pflastersteinen! Die Pflastersteine können Schaden nehmen, besonders wenn die Geode gefüllt ist. Mir gefällt außerdem die umweltschonende Pappverpackung. Ein tolles Geschenk für unsere Steinbegeisterte 10-jährige.
