Excellent old school derailleur.
I put this on my e-bike build. E-bikes do better with old school drive trains because the old cassettes are thicker and stronger and can handle the power of the motor which can shred the cassette cog’s higher gears if you apply too much throttle, even with a 750 watt Bafang. Plus, the gear spacing is is wider, hence less redundant shifting. This derailleur is basic and doesn’t multiple shift like the newer ones today…but it’s very direct and precise. I paired it with a Tourney 8-speed and and old SRAM cassette. Perfect shifting, no missed shifts or that grinding clicking ever. I also like the simple and elegant design plus that it’s a direct mount. Better than the Tourney with its extra mounting appendage. All in all, seriously good performance for the price. And…don’t listen to those bloggers that say just put it in a higher gear and zip around. It will destroy the teeth on the smallest cogs because of less contact surface. I’ve started converting my other builds to 8-speed drivetrains, too. Good luck on your bike builds!

Accurate Shifting - well constructed
I modified a bike with high-end components to increase the tooth count. I use this with the Shimano Claris 8 spd shifters. Bike has 126 mm rear hub spacing so using Shimano 7-spd freewheel. Purchased another hub for which I plan to adjust spacers and over-dish the wheel to fit 8 spd. But bench tested shifters and derailleur for all 8 spds (7 shift increments) and it worked perfectly. I use with Shimano 9-spd chain - not as forgiving as 8 Spd when out of adjustment but much quieter and smoother when in adjustment. Really, there is no excuse for being out of adjustment, the adjuster on this derailleur has a wide range and is easy to use. This combination works perfectly with 14-28 7 Spd never missing a shift in high or low. Crank is 50/34.

OEM Shimano
Perfect Shimano derailleur for folks running vintage 8 speed. One star off because seller shipped it in an envelope and it definitely should have been in a box as the packaging looked rough

shifts perfectly with MicroNew R8 shifters
I converted a Cannondale M300 (c. 1998) from a heavy, cheaply accessorized rigid mountain bike into a drop bar 2x8 gravel-esque road bike. I need a mid/long cage rear derailleur for the 50x38 to 11x32 gearing I would be using. I actually had to add a link to a brand new chain to get a comfortable length. After my first ride, the shifting seated the cable better and therefore my rear shift cable became super loose. Once properly tightened in the Claris, it has been shifting really well with $62.00/pair shift/brake levers from a Chinese company (MicroNew) who fashions their product after a similarly named company (MicroShift). Total bike build weight for an aluminum frame/steel fork, 26" mountain wheel with basic level everything else was just over 23lbs. Not bad for a bike where the only new item I purchased I actively sought something that was comparatively lighter than other choices were the tires (Michelin Country - Dry 2). At 600gms, these tires shed about 400gms/set over slicks or other low-depth knobs. The only tires that would have saved more that I would have selected were the Continental CrossKing foldables which are 430gms or so per tire. A last thought in regards to the derailleur is simple: if it's Shimano, all of the bolts are hex-keys, and it's for 8-speed or more, it'll probably perform well enough for anyone not racing the pro-circuit.

Good value
Replaced an aging Shimano Altus on a 90s custom Columbus XLS steel bike. It is on an RD extender on a Campy dropout. Works very well. This RD may not need the extender, which was necessary for the Altus, but it is working very well so I'm not planning to try that yet. The main reason I went with the Claris is to match the Claris brifters on the bike. Seller was GREAT. They accidentally sent me a SRAM SX 12-speed when I had ordered this Claris 8-speed. I immediately initiated the return and at the same time notified the seller. They promptly sent me the correct RD along with a $20 gift card for their site. I intend to take advantage of that soon.

Worked well, no instructions.
Worked fine but basically no installation instructions. The online "manual" was worthless. Luckily YouTube bailed me out.
