Will this work in the car?

Would it be difficult to write on notebook paper with the textured surface? Or is it smooth enough to write on just a piece of paper?

I have students use a folder under a single sheet of paper especially writing paper. The texture is okay to write on, but not 100% smooth. We love them in my 4th-grade class!
