how flexible is cord? i need to monitor level in water column only 12 inches in diameter

Is this what I need to make the pump turn off before the water runs out of the well?

I used mine to replace switch inside my 3000 gal water storage tank. This switch turns off the 24VAC contacts for the pump. Sounds like you need a pump controller with run/refresh timers on it.

How much of a throw, in inches, does it take between on and off?

it take about 10 to 12 inches of throw as long as you set up the weight correctly
