Genuine Joe - 99737 Economical Powdered Laundry Detergent

I first tried this product when I was looking for a biodegradable product. We have a gray water system and this water goes directly into the garden area. I did not have high expectations. I was immensely pleased to find this product is one of the best I've ever used! My clothes are noticably cleaner, my whites are whiter, my garden water has immense growth so I know it's a safe product, there's no perfumy smell, and no powder clumps left over. I will literally never buy another product. And, it's last forever.

I love the economicalness of using this detergent. Instead of spending $20 on laundry soap every 2 to 3 weeks (we do a lot of laundry), I buy one of these buckets and it lasts right around 9 months. I use around a quarter cup a load give or take, depending on what I'm washing. I like the way it cleans and that it doesn't have much of a scent. And we haven't had any issues with skin problems or irritations. I am careful about breathing it in when moving between buckets and containers. Also who doesn't love having a three gallon bucket to use when you finish with the soap. It's the perfect size. Only warning, it is heavy, I would not want to be responsible for hauling it up multiple flights of stairs.

I'm a stickler for clean laundry. I do multiple loads PER DAY for a family of 4. I have tried everything on the market (and I mean EVERYTHING). Even those make-believe detergent "sheets" that claim to be good for the planet (which don't clean a thing!). I don't know what's in this stuff, but I keep going back to Genuine Joe's. It makes my laundry crisp and clean. I use more than what's suggested, just a touch more, but our clothes are dirty from two outside laborers in the family. The clothes come out clean every time. Just like when you bring them to have them done at the laundrymat; crisp and clean every time. Now that I wrote this review, I hope that the price doesn't increase, because I want to say that at this price point now, it is a good value. The detergent itself is a little funky.... it's the consistency of rough beach sand. You can't get too close when scooping it out of the bucket because the fumes will get to you. Like I said, I'm not sure what's in this stuff, but it works great! I do recommend that you try!

09/18/2023: The container is durable, powder is white in color and it seems to dissolve well. We haven’t had problems with it leaving any residue on our clothes. We do wash with cold water for our darks. The clothes seems to be really clean, I did mix baking soda wash and borax in my bucket (man that was sooo hard) because I saw that in a few reviews and it works! It has a lite scent but it don’t leave the clothes smelling like anything. It’s not scoop in the bucket, so I just use one from my kitchen. I believe it’s one cup. We haven’t had any sensitivity issues, I was nervous about that but so far so good. It washes well and I would get it again. Will update after a few months. It’s only been a few weeks. UPDATE 05/19/2024: This lasted us a family of four, one being a one year old (so you know it’s a lot of clothes) til January of this year. I bought this in Aug 2023, we wash about 4-5 loads a week. Not to mention we split a lot of it carrying it in different containers back and forth to the laundry mat, the containers we would put it in would break. But it still last a long time. I had absolutely no issues using this detergent.

Great cleaning soap at a definite budget price. Tide works no better but I do wish it had a good fresh scent like tide and other soaps that do not work as good as this soap for sure. Tide and this soap are definitely equal as I'm in badly stained clothing from vehicles, welding daily and WOW is my one word review for a great five star value that I'd buy anyway over tide unless same price and tide would only win for it's scent then. But to save so much and considered to other cheap soaps even this soap is surely great as it cleans heavily soiled clothes like the best money can buy for sure, and I've try'd all the stain and spot removers before and this with a brush and some scrubbing works great and I think the powder form is actually a better cleaner for such things being somewhat abrasive and working itself between the clothing and substance staining them, think of it as comet vs soft liquid scubber. Hands down comment wins every time. Great product that I will be buying from now on at the best of prices for twice the soap of all but one I mentioned already... What a bargain... Says commercial grade and I thought just a selling ploy or gimmick word, but after around 20 loads so far I'm a believer of that term commercial quality now for sure and finally a soap that is what it claims to be unlikeless budget brands like All, Snuggle, Arm & Hammer, and many others I've tried over the years... If your value for dollar shopping you won't be at this soap at any price for sure... Love it... Thanks 👍👍

I think that i love this Genuine Joe detergent even after only one load of laundry . The last bag of powdered detergent that I bought was aweful , I noticed after a couple of loads that it really didn't clean very well . The worst was that it was scented and I always buy unscented , I must have forgot how much I hate scented detergent or this brand was a extra strong version . We used that bag up and the smell was so bad it was very smothering and long lasting . I was happy when that bag ran out ,I foung Genuine Joe and after reading the reviews we ordered the 40 pound bucket . I was curious to see if GJ would knock out the former detergents stink from our towels and Iam happy to say that it did . After GJ my load of towels had a light clean scent that I find to be pleasant and normal smelling . Another great feature is that while my towels feal soft and clean they do not have that gross plastic feal that a fabric softener gives to your clothes . If you are looking for a really good solid laundry detergent I suggest that you buy Genuine Joe and give it a try , I think that you will be happy with your end results

I have mixed feeling on this product. It doesn't raise a bubble even when I double the scoop. My mom raised me to feel the water that it was good and slippery. It seems the right consistency for soapy water but I don't know really that it works that well. My clothes seem to come out clean but I have to spot a little harder and I'm also using the soap cycle on the dial now which means more electricity to get the clothes reasonably clean but not exactly bright. That could be because there's less chemicals then "Big Laundry"... LOL I do like the fact that there is very little fragrance and I just smell like clean clothes instead of a perfume Factory. You might try some if you're fragrance sensitive. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to buy more.

Wanted to really test this out so I washed my shop towels using the detergent. I have a Speed Queen top load washer. Shop towels had oil stains, dirt, grime, etc. on them. I had one bad towel that had black grease/oil stains on it. I did a soak cycle using just the detergent followed by a warm wash cycle using 3 tablespoons of detergent for each of the cycles. After the wash cycle, I noticed that all of the dirt stains were between 95% and 100% gone. Mind you these were shop towels that cleaned dirt from lawn mowers lol. The one bad towel with the grease stains was probably only 5% cleaner so that was the only negative. I then ran the shop towels again through the wash but this time using Tide powder detergent, oxi clean, Dawn dish soap, and some Pine SOL. Basically I used all my tricks of the trade to get stains out. After that cycle, the super dirty grease towel was maybe 15-20% clean. Still had lots of black grease stains on it. Goes to show that grease stains will outlast anything so I would not fault Genuine Joe's detergent here. With regular clothes, they come out clean, no fragrance smell, and remove all odors. I can have some pretty strong body odor when I work out and my t-shirts smelled so fresh when they came out of the wash. Best bang for buck detergent out there. If you want to boost its performance, add a tablespoon of borax to make the water more slippery and some sodium tri polyphosphate for sulfates.

Just lightly scented and works really well. I wanted to switch to powder because I was told it's better for front loading machines and that 1-2 tbsps is enough. I put 1 tbsp in the soap dispenser area and it's doing a great job getting our clothes clean and fresh. And it's also going to last forever so it's a great deal. We do have softened water so less soap works well but if you have hard water you may need to use a little more but this bucket will still last a long long time!

I threw out those costly liquid detergents . Our household has several loads of laundry each week. We have been using this for several weeks and I am very pleased. Joe laundry powder does the job and more. I no longer use bleach or spot treat stains. For stains just add a little extra powder to the load and it will do its thing. For ceramic floors add a little to the bucket and get the floors clean. I also use it on my granite counter top. Gets the counters clean with a great shine to boot. Love love this product and love the savings.

been using this for a few weeks, was using Tide powder previously. i find im having to use more of this product to get the right amount of suds and clean. about dble i was using w tide. i’m finding the laundry doesn’t come out very fresh and clean smelling truthfully. however it’s satisfactory. meh, 3 stars

I use an eighth of a cup for a large load.(3 pairs of my husbands jeans which are filthy from his job.) and my laundry is clean and fresh. Well worth the price.
