'A marvelous and inventive storyteller' Sarah J Maas, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author At Zalindov, the only person you can trust is yourself. Seventeen-year-old Kiva Meridan is a survivor. For ten years, she has worked as the healer in the notorious death prison, Zalindov, making herself indispensable. Kept afloat by messages of hope from her family, Kiva has one goal and one goal only: stay alive. Then one day the infamous Rebel Queen arrives at the prison on death's door and Kiva receives a new message: Don't let her die. We are coming . The queen is sentenced to the Trial by Ordeal: a series of elemental challenges against the torments of air, fire, water, and earth, assigned to only the most dangerous of criminals. Aware the sickly queen has little chance of making it through the Trials alive, Kiva volunteers to take her place. If she succeeds, both she and the queen will be granted their freedom. But no one has ever survived. And with an incurable plague sweeping Zalindov, a mysterious new inmate fighting for Kiva's heart, and a prison rebellion brewing, Kiva can't escape the terrible feeling that her trials have only just begun. From bestselling Australian author Lynette Noni comes a masterful and action-packed YA fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Sabaa Tahir. I cannot wait for the sequel!
My Rating: 4.25 stars You know a book is good when you remember to write a review close to the release date! Prison Healer was a book that intrigued me because of its blurb. I mean how GREAT is the blurb! For once, the blurb did not disappoint. Kiva is in a real prison. She doesn't expect to get out and as readers we feel her hopelessness and we don't expect a prison heist or a knight in shining armour to rescue her. That's what really made me love this book. It focuses on setting the scene and builds all the characters very well. Before you know it, you're invested! I'm invested in Kiva's journey and I want to know what happens next. I also enjoyed the elemental challenges. Reminded me of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Basically, this book ticked all the boxes: * Strong Characters *Great World Building * Prison/Dystopian Setting * Fantasy+ Magic+ Romance * Right amount of mystique and mystery * An ending I did not see coming * A romance that did not make me cringe One thing that really impressed me about this book is how it managed to surprise me at the end. I don't want to spoil anyone but a lot of stuff happens that really took me by surprise. Overall, I cannot wait for the sequel. The only reason this is not getting a 5 is because I don't see myself re-reading the book, but I came very close to giving it a 5. Definitely worth a read! My Rating: 4.25 stars

Full of tension, royals, rebels, and magic and I loved it!
I got on really well with the writing style of this book. If I hadn’t been buddy reading I could have seen myself binging The Prison Healer and I probably will whenever I decide to reread it. Set inside Zalindov prison this is a YA Fantasy book with a slightly darker vibe. It’s full of tension, royals, rebels, and magic and I loved it! Kiva has been in Zalindov for 10 years, having arrived when she was just a child. Working as the healer for the entire prison her days are long and brutal. She can’t save everyone and has to brand new arrivals making the other prisoners see her as the enemy. Secret coded messages from her family help her keep going, knowing they want to help her escape. But when a new prisoner arrives Kiva receives a different message: “Don’t let her die. We are coming.” While I guessed a lot of the twists early on I still really enjoyed the journey of the book. Kiva was a great main character, full of heart and determination, and because the book is from her POV we also see her more vulnerable side that she doesn’t want to show the rest of the prison. She has a found family situation going with 11 year old prisoner Tipp and their friendship is adorable. Tipp’s antics brought a lot of bright moments to the book which stopped everything from feeling too doom and gloom. There’s a touch of romance of the slow burn variety between Kiva and new prisoner Jaren. I assume it will be explored this further in the sequel. Speaking of the sequel The Gilded Cage will be out on the 12th October and I’m so happy we don’t have to wait a whole year for it! Read for: • awesome female lead • found family • budding romance • royals • magical trials • a fast paced adventure

Not awful, but not good either
This book isnt for me. Im glad i didnt buy the other two books of the triology. The twist was good but the 'before' didnt attract me that much. I dont think after the twist will either. I expect multiple surprises and action and some magic from a fantastic book but the modern books disappoint me. I cant read hundreds of pages for the sake of a few pages of excitement. Also, there s a sentence the author repeats along the book which annoyed me gravely. Okay buddy. Okay. OKAY.

Love it!
I absolutely recommend this book to everyone. The story line, the character building, the romance, all of it is done so well. And the fact that its a clean romance, and no foul language. Very well done.
