Catching the Wind

You can quickly tell Melanie did a lot of research in writing this book. The spies, the details about the children's (especially Brigitte's) lifestyle while running, and the history surrounding the story all make this a very interesting experience. I can't imagine two children today making it as far away from home as they did, but times today are different.

A dual-time (1940/2017) story of espionage, loss, mother-daughter relationships and a man bound by a promise to his best friend. This story takes place on the home front and not on the battlefield but includes some selfish, unsavory characters, yet the primary H and h in each time frame redeem the story to one of hope, restoration and forgiveness.WWII stories are sometimes hard to read but they also prompt a renewed sense of right and wrong, good and evil, truth and deceit. Melanie Dobson strategically places the spiritual arc within the dialogue of the characters as they search the past to gain a brighter future.This book is suitable for teens and older; however, it includes the evil of abandonment, mistreatment, and infidelity without inappropriate intimate scenes and bad language.

Wow, I could NOT put this book down. I stayed up until the early morning hours to finish it and find out the ending because it’s that good! The characters deeply moved me, the plot enveloped me from the get-go, and above all there is nothing better than an excellent, compelling story of love and redemption. HIGHLY highly recommend this one!!

Great development of characters. Intriguing story line with twists and turns. Recommend readers keep track of who is who to avoid confusion at the end.

I didn’t know what this book was about ahead of time and really enjoyed it. I didn’t want to put it down.

Well written with plots both contemporary and historical, this story caught me up and carried me on an emotional journey. May we never forget that the past will shape the future and pray it be for the better.

This book was so much more than I expected when I began reading. It took me through so many emotions in such a beautiful way. It was a mystery clearly, but it was a love story as well. I loved how the author wove the historical parts of the story with the events of the present.The story starts with Daniel and his desire to find his friend that was lost during WWII. Quenby is a journalist that is working on a story about a British woman whom she believes worked as an agent of Germany during the war. When Daniel requests that Quenby investigate whether his friend is still alive, she refuses at first because she is working on her story. However, Daniel’s mystery calls to her and so she begins to research what happened to Brigitte. This is a story with many threads but they are woven together in a thoughtful way.God’s theme of redemption and taking beauty from ashes is, also, delicately woven throughout the story. The story is beautiful and tragic, joyful and painful, but in the end it is a story of God’s love for His people. Tissues are required, but my recommendation is that you read this book.

I love a good mystery! Especially one that so captures your imagination that it feels real. It is hard to put this book down.

Lots of suspense, not an obvious ending until the second half of the book. A page Turner. I got right into the pages of this story.

Oh my! I'm on chapter 13 right now, but I had to review it! Such a riveting story! I can't wait to find out what happened to Brigitte, and where Dietmar ended up after letting her go.So far there's a chapter set in modern day with Quenby, and the next a chapter written from Deitmar's perspective in 1940, but it isn't confusing at all.Update: After staying up way too late reading this book, I had to finish this story today. It's a beautiful novel, and it has a gentle message of good overcoming evil, of beauty emerging from ashes. I highly recommend "Catching the Wind"!

This story kept me spellbound until the last page—the unforgiving honesty of human failures and failings, as well as the power of loyalty and forgiveness, gave this book a real depth of what life looks like.

Catching The Wind is the best book I have read in a long time. I love WWII novels and this did not disappoint. Melanie Dobson captured my imagination with fascinating characters and their stories. Do yourself a favour, don't just put this one on your list of books to read, but open the pages and dive in. You won't put it down.

I like Melanie Dobson's books. They give insights into' behind the scenes' happenings during the war. That puts a personal touch to the stories. A very good read.
