Read through a whole lot of projectors before I zeroed in on this one. Great image quality in the dark.

I used to have a home theater setup about 15 years ago, wasn't really using anymore and got rid of everything when I moved in to my new house! Kind'a gettin' the itch again... but did not want to spend a couple of grand on it. It would be for occasional movie watching in a light controlled basement living room. So I figured based on reviews and several youtube videos I would give this one a try! First of all, manage your expectations!! this is not a 3000$ 4k laser projector, nor does it try to be! I used to have a panasonic PT-AE700 (2500$ back in the day) wich was 1000 lumens and 720p. What you get with this little magic box is amazing... resolution is great and it's really bright in a dark room. Doesn't feel quite as bright as my old projector but the bump in resolution is instantly noticable and the overall image is better. The good: - Only 150$ on special with coupon... OMG!!! Less expensive that a new buld for my old projector!! - Great picture quality, brightness, resoluton and color accuaracy (Mind bogglingly good for the price!!) This rivals projectors in a much higher price range! - Connectivity is good 2xHdmi, 2xUSB, A/V and Bluetooth - Built in speaker is actually usable, pretty lound and sounds ok for poratbility. - Remote control is well made and usefull. - Great brightness up to 100"-120" - Easy and usefull setup menu. The less good: - For absolutely perfect focus, projector lens must be perfectly centered with the screen, there is no throw angle built in. So you must use the manual keystone ajustement, I does work but the more you angle the projector with the screen, the less in focus the top and bottom of the picture will be. So you have to compromise a little bit between sharpness and squareness of the picture. So table top and ceilling mounting will be top/bottom blurry if the throw angle is to strong. More obvious with text and less in a movie. - Fan is definitely audible in quiet situations, but with movie sound you don't hear it. - No optical zoom, so throw distance is fixed! 8'4" for an 80" screen in my setup, you can use digital zoom down to 50% for further distance, but that reduces resolution and overall brightness. - Does not have a 1/4" tripod mount hole, only 4 screw projector mount. (would of been nice) - Very usable in a dimly lighted room, brighter lighting for bright stuff like sporting events is doable! Got a VIVO 80" pull down screen for 100$ on special! Now have a home theater setup for less that 300$ total!! Unbeleivable value!! EDIT: Update 8 months in... Still going strong, I absolutely love this thing. What a great purchase!! EDIT2: It is now being used as my primary TV!! I'm buying a second one for backup, in case this one dies!

as good as a home projector can get

This is a great projector for the price point. At time of writing, it was on sale for 219 from 289 and then there was an additional time limited coupon for 70 bucks bringing the cost down to about 150 plus tax. Replacing the bulb on my current big brand name albeit older projector was going to cost me 187 plus tax. This projector has 1080P resolution, but is still 4K compliant, (it will play 4K content, but will downscale to match the 1080P resolution) so if you truly want the 4K experience, you'll have to invest in a much higher end projector, but you won't be blocked from playing that content with this device. I don't actually have the internet speed or want to invest in the data quantity required for 4K so I am quite happy with the resolution of this projector. I have a very large screen, (120" I think?) and have it hooked up to my laptop, and have no problem reading text and videos look great. I was surprised how good the built in speaker is, (better than the one on the big brand projector I'm replacing) and would be adequate for portable applications, however I have my PC hooked up to my stereo system. I like the zoom function so you can get the right size image for the screen you are using, and there is an adjustment knob for adjusting the up down angle between projector and screen. I saw a review that said it wasn't great if the room was too bright. As you can see in the pic I included, the drapes are open on my window and patio door, the lights are on, and the screen is bright (yes those are wild turkeys in my back yard). I actually have 3 patio doors and 3-3'X4' windows in this room and multiple lights, so my experience has been quite different from that reviewer. Settings are set to standard brightness on the projector. I also read in the Q and A that it could not be installed on the ceiling. At first glance I can see why some people might think this, as you can't see any bolt holes for bracket attachment. It is noted in the ad that it's possible, and in the manual it explains how. The 4 rubber feet on the bottom can be popped off, (they are glued in, but they come out without being destroyed if you carefully pry them out with a small flat head screwdriver). Underneath you'll find M5 bolt holes (M5 bolts not included, but should be with your ceiling bracket mount). Then when you go into the projector settings, find "rotate" and press the select button to cycle through to either "Front/Ceiling" for an application like in my pic or "Back/Ceiling" if doing a rear projection set up. Overall, I am so far very happy with this projector. I'll update my review when I have an idea how long the bulb lasts, but at this price point, it's hard to beat.

After some light research, I decided to go with this projector and I am glad that I did. The price was affordable and the specs seemed good enough. I am writing this after 2 years of regular use in an out door environment. I am not a projector expert, but a casual user, so this review is not technical, but practical. The projector is lightweight and was easily set up in my gazebo and paired with my Amazon speaker. The screen is about 10ft distance from the projector. The user interface takes a little time to get used to, but it is quite simple and intuitive for someone new to projectors. The picture quality is good and I have even watched 3-D movies using it. Of course the picture is better in complete darkness, but the lamp is strong enough to cast onto the screen with my gazebo lights. I had a problem with the remote control. The batteries leaked lead and and ruined the remote. I contacted their customer service after 2 years of the purchase and they completely took care of me 100% !!My satisfaction with this product and company is 5 stars! I shared some photos of my set up.
