Twin Peaks: Collection [Blu-ray] [Region Free]

I am thrilled to have this set! I remember watching Twin Peaks when it originally aired and feeling cheated when the third season was cancelled. It had a quirky yet dark quality that drew me in instantly, and even thought it seemed to lose its way during the second season, there was always something in each episode that resonated with me and kept me coming back for more. The music was achingly beautiful, the characters unique, and the story line intriguing. I fell in love with Cooper and the entire Sheriff's team, not to mention Big Ed and Norma. I laughed, cried, sighed, and pondered my way happily through the pilot, both seasons,and the FWWM movie. I am truly giddy over a chance to re-watch it all! While I do wish it had been offered on DVD (for those fans who do not have a Blue Ray player) and I am sincerely sympathetic to everyone who already bought the Gold Box Set (thinking the collection was as complete as it ever would be), I am basing my five star review solely on the beauty and content of this set. Both movies and all the episodes have exquisite picture and sound, and I am thrilled to have 90 minutes of extra FWWM footage. Plus, each disk has its own mix of special features, including Log Lady Introductions. My one complaint is that there was no content booklet added. Below I have copy pasted a detailed list of what is on each disk (this list was originally posted by another reviewer; I do not remember their name). I am reprinting it because it is such a great way to show you what you get with this set. Have been waiting for this release pretty much for most of my adult years. TWIN PEAKS has to be the first series that created a worldwide fascination, some 20+ years ago, in a time when following a TV series was not a global trend as it now is. A show that ran for 2 seasons until it was cancelled, it has maintained a legendary status among viewers of that era as well contemporary ones, making this release the most highly anticipated event in recent years. Whereas previous VHS/DVD releases offered the episodes which aired back in 1990-1992, along with extra features and various commentary, this new blu-ray box set is the most comprehensive yet, featuring all 29 full episodes, 2 versions of the pilot episode, and most of the extras from previous releases. More importantly, it includes the feature film which served as both a prequel and an epilogue to the series, "Fire walk with me", plus 90 minutes of deleted or never-seen-before scenes, all fully scanned and remastered from the original negatives. The diligence exhibited in pretty much all aspects of the box is impressive. It surely helped the fact that the show was shot on film, and so these films were used in order to create HD masters. Still, it must have taken incredible effort and expense in order to upgrade the material to HD quality and DTS sound. The sharpness is striking, and the amount of details that can be noticed is tremendous, even on the deleted scenes which are fully finished with flawless picture and crystal sound. This greater depth is impressive, almost giving the feeling of watching the show anew. On initial copies of the box set, on some occasions the sound appeared to be slightly out of sync (most notably on some deleted scenes), which was admittedly distracting. Although at first it was not clear whether this was a matter of a faulty batch, buyers of the set complained heavily, and so a new pressing put this issue to rest. This niggle stopped many from giving this a full-star rating, along with the absence of extras from the first 2 seasons previously available on DVD (apparently, Artisan Entertainment did not want to license them for this new box set). The packaging is impressive but, although the set is magnificent to look at, placing the discs in horrible cardboard slip-in cases is a letdown - they may be practical and easy to access, but for a box set as highly anticipated as this, come as a disappointment. On the plus side, there are some surprises inside the box, which I am not going to spoil, just a quick mention! Finally, no booklet listing the features is included. One has to actually play the discs in order to read their contents; frustrating. Except for these couple of missteps, it is still a special occasion indeed for anyone to feast. Not often do we have the opportunity of enjoying 27 hours of a favourite show, trailers, numerous interviews and discussions, insightful commentary, making-ofs, image galleries, all nicely packaged in an elegant box. A truly exemplary effort, and a must-have for any devotee, TWIN PEAKS: The entire mystery and the missing pieces is the definitive TP collection of one of the most innovative, engrossing and groundbreaking series in the history of international television. All I can say is this: Through the darkness of future past, CBS, Paramount and the purgatory that is European financing acted like grown up magicians and gave us what we all longed to see: a beautiful, complete blu ray box set of the series and Fire Walk With Me! So finally it's here. I waited for at least six months as I normally do with box sets and got a huge reduction in the price. You should be able to get this for around 80 dollars. I got mine at the hight of Sync-gate wen numerous copies were purported to have faulty sound synchronization in many parts of the updated soundtrack. Mine and many others are completely unaffected by this, so it would seem Amazon fixed the problem with the distributer. All in all this is any Twin Peaks fan's dream. Especially "The Missing Pieces." If you are someone who, like me, would go hungry for a week just to get my hands on any piece of information providing insight into the world Lynch and Frost created, than this is pretty much the holy grail and you need not go hungry. The biggest complaint I've heard, other than the sound issue, which in my opinion is a manufacturing defect and should not be held against the creators, is the sleeves the discs come in. I personally find it completely stupid to complain about it. They look so much better than the gold box DVD holders, which may have protected the discs better and that's a strong "may." Any cinephile should know how to handle a disc in such a way that it won't get damaged, no matter what it is cases in. The other complaint I hear is the only con I somewhat agree with, and that is th fact that there is no itemized list of what special features are on what disc. This may have been an oversight. In my opinion this does not take away from the actual viewing experience so I don't really care that much. The picture and sound are amazing. I often find that shows and movies shot on film do not not translate well to the high-def format, but twin peaks is not one of those. Overall this is a must have for diehard fans, as well as a great set for new fans who do not own the gold box set. It is certainly worth it to own both, namely due to the inclusion of Fire Walk With Me (prequel film by Lynch) and The missing Pieces.

The content here is of course 5 stars. It's David Lynch. TWIN PEAKS!! If you've seen it and are now looking to own for the first time, you know. If you've not seen it before and are looking to finally see this legendary groundbreaking show, you are in for a treat. BUT.... there are several options to buy and I've done a few, so let me help and tell you that THIS is the one to get for S1 and S2. There are several "all inclusive" sets including "Twin Peaks - The Television Collection" which includes S1, S2 and S3 only (plus extras), or the more expansive "Twin Peaks - Z to A" set that includes all 3 seasons, the "Fire Walk With Me" movie, "This Missing Pieces" AND the international version of the pilot. Sounds enticing, especially since it's the cheapest way to get everything, but let me tell you: cheaper is not always better. Look at the 1-star reviews for those collections and you'll see serious issues with the packaging which I can attest to. It's a big plastic book-like case that you open up and then there are a few "pages" that you can put the discs on. The problem is that each side of each "page" holds 4 discs: two discs at the top stacked right on top of each other (!), then 2 more at the bottom done the same way. And each set of 2 discs overlaps with one another, meaning you could have to remove up to *3* discs to get to the one you are after (and they are NOT very easy to remove!). Convenience? ZERO. Opportunity to scratch, scuff and otherwise damage your discs? MASSIVE. I watched my "Television Collection" set twice but on the 3rd time several episodes began skipping and even freezing on me even though I am very careful with my discs at all times. So I paid the price in having to buy THAT set and then having to replace it. Many people still give those sets 4 or even 5-star reviews because I don't think the what happened to me has happened to them yet, but I'd bet that it will... So rather than the cheapest and most "convenient" option and one of those 'all in one' sets, I would definitely recommend getting this "Entire Mystery" set for everything Twin Peaks from the 1990's and then this one for S3-The Return. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DPPQ2W76?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title This "Entire Mystery" set has 10 discs and the S3-The Return set has 8. Both are packaged identically with 1 disc only on each side of the "page" inside the case (this "Entire Mystery" set also has one disc on the inside of the front of the case and at the back, which is how it holds 2 more discs than the "Return" set). But both have EASY access to whichever disc you are after: EASY to remove, EASY to replace and never do the discs come into contact with one another. And the content is ALL there: this "Entire Mystery" set includes S1, S2, the 'Fire Walk With Me' movie, The Missing Pieces and both versions of the original pilot; the S3-The Return set is exactly that: all episodes from that season. But both sets include more extras then you'll know what to do with. All packaged in two separate cases that are not large at all and yet hold all your discs securely and safely while still allowing safe and easy access to removing and returning the discs (each set is approximately the width of 2 single disc blu ray cases; the two sets stacked together are actually smaller than the single case the "Television Collection" and "Z to A" sets come in; I know as I've had both in my hands). Purchasing that way will cost you a little more -- as of this typing I paid about $25 more -- but I couldn't be happier that I did. I have all things "Twin Peaks" in two compact sets that I am confident will last a lifetime.

I was a huge fan of this creation from the moment I saw the pilot when it originally aired in 1990. I was such a fan of the show that when the film "Fire walk With Me" was released I saw it twice and bought the poster and had it framed! It was sad to me that the film was so discredited by fans!. "Fire Walk with Me" It was different from the show but it had to be. Where the show dealt with the mystery of "Laura's Murder" the film deals with the events that led to it. The show dealt with the underbelly of suburban life. The film showed us that all is not perfect in the world of Laura. Her world was a terrible place, For years I wanted to see those deleted scenes and after 22 years hear they are. (FYI I also waited 25 years for those Marlon Brando scenes in Superman II) Now you may ask "Do these scenes add anything to the story"? well "No , but they are great to watch on their own". If has been a long time since you have seen "Fire walk With Me" a suggest a refresher! You really do need to know that film to really enjoy the deleted footage! When you do that you can see why scenes were deleted. Had they of been kept the film would of been almost 4 hours long. Also even now if all of these scenes were added back in, the film would believe it or not be too long too sit through. In general the deleted scenes work great as a stand alone feature. Now what I think would of been great if David Lynch gave us an audio commentary on everything he directed in "Twin Peaks". From the pilot to the film but he doesn't do them. If you watch the set the interviews from cast members say "David doesn't Analyze things too much". To me David Lynch he doesn't need to analyze. What I like in audio commentary's is when any director talks about "This scene took us all day to do because" " I wanted to cut this but it was needed" "This was re-shot months after we completed principle photography" "This scene was meant to come earlier" "My editor & I worked on this scene and had many versions of it" "This scene was important to the actors" "So & So Improvised here and it worked" In the first ever DVD release there were audio commentary's for many episodes from the first season. They however did not make it over to this release or even the DVD GOLD BOX EDITION. Maybe David Lynch refused to have them included. In fact in the original (Artisan release) the commentary's they are not even mentioned on the packaging. They are almost a hidden bonus feature" I also would of loved a little booklet saying what is on each blu-ray. If your a general fan you will like this. If your a true fan this will be your favorite blu-ray set of all time! JUST AN FYI the deleted scenes alone are worth the price of this release.

I bought my copy from Deep Discount Entertainment for a few cents less than what Amazon wanted. It arrived well packaged, all in one piece, and only took a week to show up in my mailbox. I have had no issues with the BluRay so far and I've watched every disc. Now for my spoiler free, already been said by a thousand other people, review. This is a fantastic set. I couldn't imagine trying to watch this show with commercials when it was originally airing, nor can I fathom how it was on ABC! Twin Peaks is a show unlike any other. It has elements of horror, comedy, melodramatic romance, paranormal happenings, all rolled into one incredible soap opera-esque program. I love soap operas so I was fully immersed in everything going on. Okay that's a lie, I couldn't have cared less about Evelyn Marsh or the character played by Billy Zane. Lana was annoying. I also laughed at James a lot, like I could never take the guy seriously but I can't imagine Twin Peaks without him (except for the last few episodes anyway). Agent Dale Cooper played by the delightful Kyle MacLachlan, enters the town of Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of beloved high school student Laura Palmer. Laura had secrets, very dark secrets. Twin Peaks is a weird town. Dale Cooper is a wonderfully weird guy so he fits right in. Dale quickly became one of my favorite TV characters ever and he turns out to be the least weird of all the Special Agents we meet. I never really knew what was going to happen next and I probably laughed several times throughout almost every episode. Somethings are genuinely funny, like almost everything involving Nadine. Other things are so bizarre and out there that all I could do was laugh and say "What the hell just happened?" (Like the fate of Josie, or Leland at his daughter's funeral). Some argue the show lost it's way in season 2 but I enjoyed it. Fire Walk With Me is a prequel but you must watch all of Twin Peaks or else FWWM will make even less sense. FWWM is mostly about the final days of Laura Palmer. The story focuses heavily on Laura's terrifying reality. Characters from Twin Peaks appear, including Laura, Leland, James, Bobby, Shelly, Leo, a recast Donna, and a few others. Cooper, Albert, and Gordon appear briefly. I wasn't super crazy about FWWM but I enjoyed seeing more of Ray Wise (he is an underrated treasure but I feel that way about most of the cast of Twin Peaks). The Agent Cooper scenes were my favorites. I felt worse for Laura after watching the movie, you see things from her perspective and you realize she never had a chance. No wonder the poor girl was partying and doing drugs. James really tried to help her (he comes off better here than in the series) but there was nothing he could have done. Edit: FWWM is very vital in regards to the new series, a must watch before you begin season 3. The Missing Pieces are scenes cut from FWWM. Many other Twin Peaks residents appear in these scenes. One of the most compelling scenes cut is the very last one. It picks up right from the end of the final episode and we get a few minutes of what would have happened next. I found it fascinating. There are many other special features scattered throughout the set, I have not had time to explore them all. I highly reccommend this set if you want to buy the series. Though it has another disc of extras, the 10 disc set is way more expensive. The DVD set does not include Fire Walk With Me and it would cost more to buy the series on DVD and the FWWM DVD than this BluRay. Twin Peaks may not be for everyone but if you have a strange sense of humor and you're open to watching something that manages to be as fun as it is disturbing, you may appreciate the world Lynch and Frost have created.

This is my fourth time around with Twin Peaks on home video. In 1991, while living in Tokyo, I bought the full series on laserdisc (even though the box set set me back the equivalent of 500 bucks). When the first- and second-season sets came out here on DVD, I got those. When the "Definitive Gold Box Edition", I replaced the earlier sets. Now, I have replaced that last box with this new blu-ray edition. Since most folks looking at this are going to be familiar with the show, I'm going to focus on the extras. The extras are by and large very good. I especially like being able to see all the various promo spots; since I was not in the US when the show originally aired, I missed all of that stuff (even though I had friends who sent me videos of most of the episodes). Some of the segments come from the earlier sets (they still bear the Artisan Entertainment logo), and haven't been upgraded. The segment consisting of interviews done in 2000 inexplicably has sped up footage of everyone but Sheryl Lee (who is shown at regular speed) while Sheryl Lee is talking. Very odd--but not an a "Lynchian" sense. The "interactive grid" of more recent interviews stands out as an example of overkill--not to mention that that menu's main navigation operates differently from the rest of the menus. I'm not sure there's a real advantage to being able to mix and match the various segments and actors; it probably would have been better to simplify the choices to actors and segments, as I suspect most folks will either watch each actor's interview in its entirety, or each segment in its entirety. The "atmospherics" mostly appear to be the loops from the menus in the set. With snippets of dialogue included, however, I'm not sure how "atmospheric" some of them are. The interview segments hosted by David Lynch are pretty interesting, for the most part. I actually don't remember "A Slice of Lynch" from the last DVD set, but it is presented here uncut. I enjoyed it most for the obvious affection Lynch, "Madgkin", and "Kale" have for one another. As for the newer segment (which appears to have been filmed in the same setting as "A Slice of Lynch"), the interviews with Ray Wise, Grace Zabriske, and Sheryl Lee in character seemed pretty pointless; at least, they didn't add anything to my understanding of the characters. Of course, this set's big draw is the deleted scenes from Fire Walk With Me. These are something of a mixed bag. As is often the case with deleted scenes, it's obvious why most of them were cut. For me, there were really only two or three scenes where I though including them would have made sense: Theresa Banks calling Leland Palmer, Annie's nurse taking the ring (which partly duplicates a scene already in the movie), and the scene with Cooper from where the series left off. I liked seeing the extra Bowie scenes, but they wouldn't have made much more sense than what was included in the film without a lot more context. In the end, as entertaining as some of the deleted scenes were (especially Agent Desmond's fistfight with Sheriff Cable), none of the deleted footage really adds anything to my understanding of the characters. Now, had the set included a version of the movie with the deleted scenes cut in to where they would have originally appeared... The image quality of the HD segments is excellent; this will be obvious from whichever menu you see first. This bodes well for the episodes themselves, as well as Fire Walk With Me. The rest of the segments vary in quality, depending on where they came from. Segments from the earlier DVD sets have mostly not been upgraded, with the extended/uncut "A Slice of Lynch" being the notable exception. One thing I am curious about is the disclaimer (on the transparent tab attached to the back of the box, in tiny, tiny print on the bottom panel) that "[s]ome episodes may be edited from their original network versions." For now, I'm assuming that this refers to the last couple of episodes that were originally aired as a 2-hour special, which mainly affected the on-screen placement of the credits. Another reviewer lamented the absence of any kind of booklet. I agree. Perhaps CBS wanted to keep production costs down, or maybe Lynch didn't want a bunch of analytical essays to distract viewers, but there was such interest in Twin Peaks while it was on that even a simple scrapbook of some sort would have been a nice addition to the package. Personally, I would love to have heard somebody talk about the gratuitous James Hurley subplot. To this day, I have yet to figure out exactly how it ties into any of the other storylines... Anyway, the set is here at last, and it mostly looks pretty good. If ever you needed an excuse to get a blu-ray player (or drive), this would be it. * * * * * Small update, 8-5-2014: I have noticed a couple of things while watching the first few discs. First, if you watch the episodes "with episodic extras" (i.e., the Log Lady intros, "Previously on Twin Peaks", and "Next on Twin Peaks..."), be prepared to make frequent volume adjustments, as the "episodic extras" tend to have slightly louder average volume levels than the episodes themselves. Second, if you use the subtitles at all, you'll probably notice that the "chance out between two worlds" mistake remains in the scene where Cooper and the One-Armed Man start reciting the verse together. There are also a couple of spelling errors here and there (I noticed one incidence of "principle" where it should have been "principal"). On the other hand, the Japanese subtitles appear to have been approved. For example, on the 1991 Japanese laserdisc, after Cooper finds Audrey in his hotel room, when he says he's going to go get them a couple of malts, "malts" is translated as "beers" ("Malt's" was the name of a beer sold by Suntory at the time); on the blu-ray, this has been corrected to "snacks". (I also noticed that "Tajimura" is misspelled as "Tojimura", but soon realized that this is how it was rendered in the credits.) Third: As much as I hate the practice, I found that there are easter eggs on the first disc, accessible from the main menu. As long as I'm updating this, I see that some folks are reporting audio sync problems. Except perhaps for a few seconds in one episode being ever-so-slightly off (which may or may not have always been the case), I haven't noticed any problems in that area with my copy.

Obviously Twin Peaks is not for everyone (but it should be), so I'm not going to tell you you need to purchase this if you've never watched the show before. Its available on almost every streaming service, so you should definitely sample first before purchasing home media. It is Region Free so it should work on MOST Blu-ray players (try another region free Blu-ray on your player to make sure its good to play them). For fans of the show, this is a great collection as it adds the difficult to obtain film "Fire Walk With Me" and the even harder to obtain "Missing Pieces" cut from "Fire Walk With Me". The picture and audio quality is exceptional for all of it, especially the original series. The special features are not all that amazing but there is some really unique stuff. Original Series: Obviously this will forever be the highlight of the entire Twin Peaks franchise. The groundbreaking show that started it all looks and sounds amazing on these blu-rays. Its also fun to go back and watch the original "TV film" they made from the Pilot, in case the show didn't get picked up. Fire Walk With Me: One of those David Lynch works that is more fascinating than exceptional. It adds more questions than answers into the franchise (very Lynchian) but examines and uncovers Lynch's themes and views through scenes which expand on original series, without really driving it forward. It is critical for the understanding of the new Showtime Series, and is similarly dark and graphic. The Missing Pieces: To those who enjoy the quirky small town feel of the original series, as opposed to its dark metaphysical underbelly, the Missing Pieces is almost a superior film to "Fire Walk With Me". Composing almost an entire feature film's worth of deleted content, The Missing Pieces is enlightening, and a little refreshing after the total downer which is "Fire Walk With Me." Honestly, I purchased this because I already had a box set of the Showtime Series, and I needed to fill in all the other content. If you're really into "Peaks" and want it in its best quality and entirety up to the modern day, you could also get the Twin Peaks Z to A Blu-ray box set.

Et il auras fallu attendre 24 ans avant d'avoir le mystère complet, 25ans dans le monde de la série néanmoins. Et le moins qu'on puisse dire avec cette édition c'est que Lynch et son équipe n'ont pas fait les choses à moitié. Une restauration d'image des plus réussie tant pour la série que pour le film (mais était ce vraiment nécessaire ? Twin Peaks n'avait pas plus de charme avec son grain prédominant ? Ces couleurs baveuses ? Oui ça faisait partie de ses nombreux charmes mais ne mettons pas à la poubelle ce bel effort éditorial, car là nous avons vraiment l'impression d'être devant une œuvre cinématographique tout le long grâce au piquet d'image. Je ne développerais pas plus sur l'aspect technique je ne suis pas un professionnel) et de même sur la bande sonore présentée en 7.1 pour la VO (JE NE PARLERAIS PAS DE LA VF CAR PARLER DE VF POUR TWIN PEAKS REVIENT A DIRE QUE SHAKESPEARE TROUVE SA SEULE VALEUR EN TRADUCTION CHEZ LIBRIO) et pour les nostalgique de la VF elle est néanmoins disponible en 1.0. Ensuite parlons Bonus,: une montagne d'archives inédites et tout ce qui est disponible sur Twin Peaks en documentaire officiel est dans le coffret. Notons la présence des fameuses scènes coupées de FWMM et d'inédites de la série et le court métrage "Between two World" avec une première partie sympathique sur ce qui est arrivé à la famille Palmer depuis la fin de la série (on peut regretter le fait que ces dialogues puissent paraitre sans intérêt car oui ils le sont, malgré le plaisirs de retrouver les personnages on n'apprend pas grand chose de nouveau, en réalité cela ne rajoute rien à la série ! Mais ne boudons pas notre plaisirs, les acteurs sont en forme ! Et ce fut un plaisirs de les revoir !). Je ne parlerais pas des scènes coupées et alternatives car je ne les ais pas encore vues, et en plus ça serait dommage de gâcher la surprise (une seule chose néanmoins une se nomme "Diane and Cooper" voilà j'espère avoir aiguisé votre curiosité :D ). Maintenant sur la série elle même, elle est parfaite, rien à dire, tout est bon (même la deuxième partie de la saison 2 trouve grâce à mes yeux ! Et oui les fans sont peu objectifs). Et le film est de mon point de vue cauchemardesque, beaucoup disent (des fans) que c'est mauvais, mais je ne suis pas d'accord, pour moi le film a bel et bien sa place dans l'univers Twin Peaks, il est ce que Frost et Lynch n'ont pas pu montrer à la télévision, c'est à dire l'horreur de ********* et des pratiques *********** (Et oui je ne peux pas dire sans spoiler) mais il faut voir le film après la série ! Et dans le meilleur des cas enchainer ensuite sur le pilote (peut être la version internationale aussi présente dans ce coffret monstre !) Seul point négatif le packaging est très jolie mais il ne me semble pas très résistant. Mais ne boudons rien surtout après le désastre de l'édition DVD de TF1 Par contre je ne sais pas, pour les possesseurs du DVD si l'achat est indispensable. Car le prix est quand même élevé même si nous en avons pour notre argent. Mais si j'avais eu le DVD je doutes que j'aurais acheté le blu ray ensuite. Esta opinión es sobre el producto rotulado como: "Twin Peaks - 2016 Downspec (10 Blu-Ray) [Edizione: Regno Unito] [Reino Unido] [Blu-ray]". Lo digo porque hay varios formatos con las opiniones comunes, y de este modo queda claro cuál es el que yo adquirí y sobre el que voy a opinar. En primer lugar, hay que decir que, aunque no lo pone por ninguna parte en el anuncio de Amazon, esta edición también viene en castellano, tanto doblada como con subtítulos, y me refiero a todos los materiales que contiene. Por supuesto, también viene en inglés y en unos cuantos idiomas más. Y, sin embargo, es sensiblemente más barata que la edición española, que, cuando yo la compré, costaba casi el doble que esta. Además de la serie completa (primera y segunda temporadas), repartida entre los discos 1 al 8, también vienen las dos películas, "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" (1992) y Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces" (2014), ambas firmadas por David Lynch, en los discos 9 y 10, respectivamente. La edición se complementa con otros contenidos adicionales. La calidad de la imagen y la del sonido son las que uno se espera de un blu-ray, es decir, magníficas. Parece ser que se han tomado el trabajo de digitalizar los originales para dar una edición de alta calidad como esta, y eso siempre se agradece. La presentación es más que aceptable. Se trata de una caja de cartón dentro de la cual se aloja otra caja de plástico, de las tipicas de blu-ray, aunque más gruesa, que reproduce la misma carátula que la caja de cartón, y en la que vienen distribuidos los diez discos que componen la colección. Esta estupenda presentación hacen que la serie pueda adquirirse para hacer un regalo sin mayor problema. En resumidas cuentas, por el precio que yo pagué (29,25 euros), no dudo en recomendarla, casi como imprescindible, para seguidores de la serie y para aficionados a la obra de Lynch. Por lo menos a mí me ha parecido que se merecía un lugar en mi videoteca, y de honor, además.

PREMESSA Confesso di non essere tra i nostalgici di Twin Peaks, perchè al tempo, quando ero un adolescente, non ero attratto da questo strano oggetto che sembrava una moda per tutti gli adolescenti dell'epoca. L'ho (ri)scoperto ora, con occhi ben più adulti e allenati, da anni di cinema e di serie tv di livello: negli ultimi 15 anni, infatti, la tv ha sfornato cose ben più innovative e importanti che il cinema. Quindi l'approccio a Twin PEaks era potenzialmente ancora più rischioso e sfavorevole per la SerieTv di David Lynch, perchè avrei potuto notare ingenuità e difetti che magari all'epoca nessuno avrebbe notato. LA SORPRESA ...e invece la realtà è che Twin Peaks, rivisto ora, mantiene una forza e un fascino pazzesco, che forse si può apprezzare ancora più che all'epoca, quano probabilmente la gente ne percepiva la stranezza e l'inquietudine, ma era spiazzata da miriadi di elementi stranianti, personaggi enigmatici e scene che, al di là di quelle più "strane", prendevano in contropiede le aspettative e i codici di visione del pubblico. Si perchè Twin Peaks non è solo una serie mystery, ma un vero e proprio contenitore di cinema e tv, provenienti anche da altri generi, che Lynch genialmente mescola in una frullatore impazzito, il cui unico punto fermo è il luogo (una cittadina di montagna apparentemente quieta e lontana dalla follia metropolitana), e il mistero da cui tutto parte (chi ha ucciso Laura Palmer?). UNA SERIE MARZIANA Twin Peaks nasce dall'incontro di un autore geniale che del sogno e dell'incubo (nel linguaggio e nell'associazione spiazzante tra personaggi, eventi, atmosfere, connessioni temporali e spaziali) ha preso tutto per creare le proprie storie cinematograiche, e di Mark Frost (uno che viene dalle Soap Opera): ne viene fuori un mix folle ma coerente dove ritroviamo tutto ciò a cui siamo abituati dalla tv più commerciale (quella delle serie tv adolescenziale come quella da soap opera, con intrighi, gelosie, dinamiche emotive e sentimentali) inserita in una storia mystery dove queste dinamiche normalmente associate a storie rassicuranti (le soap opera lo sono per definizione) vengono stravolte e quasi giustapposte in un racconto di fantasmi, alieni, mostri del subconscio. Perchè in Lynch, come sempre, la paura viene dalla mente e dalla percezione, esplode da sotto il tappeto dell'apparente normalità borghese (Strade Perdute, Velluto Blu, Mulholland Drive). Non riesco nemmeno a immaginare come il pubblico di allora possa aver colto o preso questo mix: prendete la prima puntata: dopo la morte di Laura, assistiamo a un'ora intera di pianti, quasi che Lynch portasse all'estremo il melodramma televisivo, ridicolizzandolo da una parte, ma al punto che supera la parodia stessa, e sembrti quasi innaturale. Ecco, innaturale è la parola giusta: tutto in twin peaks sembra volutamente inadeguato e fuori posto: le azioni e reazioni tra i personaggi, i twist della storia, i metodi di investigazione di Cooper, la mescolanza tra sogno, visione e realtà. E poi c'è la parte spaventosa, che non è solo quella delle apparizioni di Bob (ancora terrificanti) ma il fatto che tutto sembra procedere come in una spirale, dove non si arriva linearmente a una soluzione ma, noi come i protagonisti, finiamo risucchiati in qualcosa che coinvolge tutti e che, alla fine, resta un mistero. La morte di Laura apre una sorta di Vaso di Pandora, da cui fuoriesce di tutto. Insomma, Twin Peaks, nel 1990, tira le somme e sconvolge le regole televisivi di allora ma anche dei tempi a venire. al punto che nessuno è mai più riuscito a creare una cosa del genere. IL BLU RAY Edizione meravigliosa. Restauro pazzesco. Guardate il dvd e poi il blu ray: sembrano due cose diversissime. La confezione è bellissima, di pregio, curatissima. C'è anche il film, il prequel della serie, e un disco extra sul film. Gli altri extra, quelli sulla serie, sono altrettanto illuminanti, raccontando tutto l'iter prima, durante e dopo la serie. Peccato Lynch non ci sia: forse era ancora scottato dal fatto che, nell stagione 2, la produzione abbia stravolto la serie, obbligandoli a rivelare il "colpevole" a metà stagione. La mia impressione è che, dopo quel momento, la serie in parte sbarelli, ma Lynch e Frost siano stati così bravi da rilanciare, facendoci capire che il focus non era "Chi ha ucciso Laura Palmer", ma solo una scusa per entrare nei meandri della mente di Lynch e del mondo incredibile che ha creato. Un mondo che è sopravvissuto anche alla rivelazione del colpevole.

Let's be honest with each other, this show is far to weird and niche for someone to randomly stumble into this amazon listing, leaving two possibilities: You already love Twin Peaks, Or you're interested about getting into it. Fortunately, the answer both of those groups are waiting to hear is just 'buy it already'. Just hit the button, there really isn't anything else that's like it and it's a fantastic watch. Only disappointment is that the follow-up series isn't included, but you can't have your cake and eat it, eh?
