They paired instantly with my Aqara hub and respond really quickly when a door or window is opened. The size is nice and compact, so they’re barely noticeable once installed. Battery life has been great so far, I’ve had them running for months and haven’t needed to replace anything. This is one of the first Thread- and Matter-based devices from Aqara. Thread devices are still fairly new to market and I've found that some other competing devices are quite buggy. This one was very straightforward and worked exactly as expected. The sensor is supplied with strong adhesive strips and also an optional magnet if required. I found the adhesive was more than sufficient to stick to the door and door-frame. Most older Aqara devices are Zigbee-based and need an Aqara hub, which acts as a Matter bridge to Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home. This sensor directly supports Matter-over-Thread, so no additional hub was required. Instead it connects wirelessly with my Apple TV which contains a Thread border router. Installation to Apple Home was a breeze; it paired very quickly after scanning the Matter QR code and then appeared in the Home dashboard. After that it was very easy to set up automations; I've set it to turn the kitchen heating off if the back door is open. The device responds almost instantly to opening and closing. Time will tell in terms of battery life. I wish all smart home devices were this simple!

This door & window sensor works amazingly well with Home Assistant. I paird this up to my Pi running home assistant via a ZigBee conbee stick & it's yet to let me done. It's a really small sensor so perfect for hiding away on the side of a window or door frame. The double sticky tap on the back makes super quick the install & pairing up to your ZigBee hub is a breeze, it was found instantly on mine. It provides accurate results when opening and closing the door allowing for my automations to run flawlessly. Great value for money!

Upfront, despite the huge downside, I do love the Aqara product line of sensors, these are by far the best when it comes to the quality of the materials, how small they are and how fast the sensors work. When you compare the size of this tiny door sensor to other brands, it is amazing how fast and reliable these work which really impresses me. I purchased quite a few of them, Door Sensors, Motion Sensors, Water Leak and Temperature Sensors and they all feel high quality, are super small compared to many others, and work quite fast. So what is the big downside? Well, if you do not use the Aqara Hub, but instead use them as Zigbee devices with other Systems like Samsung Smarthings, Habitat, or Home Assistant and you have a bigger house that needs repeaters, you run into big, big trouble. Despite the Zigbee 3 Standard they should follow, these devices "stick" to the connection they got originally paired to, so if one of your repeaters goes offline, your Aqara sensor goes offline, as it refuses outright to connect to the next repeater in your house. This means the sensors do not follow strictly the Zigbee 3.0 Standard and you can run into huge issues, which makes an amazing product a big hassle, especially if you use them all over the house as I do. I would rate them 5 Stars no doubt, and if you plan to use the Aqara Hub it might be, but due to that big issue, I had to rate them down and I hope Aqara will solve that in the future or with an OTA update.
