Great design and woks well
Nice, attractive, and works great. Love that the battery door is not on the inside of the lid where the door can be lost. This happened twice to me previously and had to get a new can both times. This is very easy to use.

Not Trash, Just Class
I don't typically write reviews, much less for products I bought over a year ago, but I wanted to give a shoutout to Nine Stars for this one. We searched long and hard to find a nice-looking stainless steel trash can for our kitchen that actually fit in our space. The automatic lid was honestly just a bonus, but boy am I happy to have it. Our countertop extends out beyond the end of the cabinet, so other trashcans we tried would clang loudly against it when they opened. Or they couldn't be put flush against the cabinet because the opening mechanism protruded out from the back. This trashcan was exactly what we needed. Well-designed, sleek, compact, plenty of capacity, and easy enough to clean (and a lower price than most of the competition). I love that the lid opening mechanism is integrated within the lid and doesn't stick out the back, so it can be flush against a wall. The inside bag holder thing is clever too; no ugly bag overhanging the outside of the can, and it never falls in by accident. Shockingly, I'm pretty sure we're on the same batteries as when we bought it last year! Only thing that could maybe be improved: The sensor seemed a little too sensitive at first, so the lid would open when we walk by. Maybe the sensor angle or sensitivity could be adjusted so it only opens when you want it to...but hardly a deal-breaker for us. I'd give it 9 stars if I could.

Upgrade from our previous NineStar!
This is our second ninestar trashcan. The first one was great but we needed a trash can in our finished basement so we moved our old kitchen one down there and bought this one for the kitchen. We’ve had it for 5.5 years and it still works very well. We have recommended ninestar trash cans to our family members and everyone who has gotten one has loved it and said what an upgrade it was from their previous trash can. One major upgrade from the previous ninestar we had is that the new one keeps the lid open as long as it senses you instead of staying open a set time. The old one would automatically close after a few seconds even if you were still there throwing stuff out. The new one senses that you are still there and stays open. This is a game changer because it doesn’t close on you before you are finished which sometimes made a mess. We couldn’t tell by the pictures if the lid is stainless steel as well as the base. It is not. It is made of a gray plastic. I was hoping it was stainless when I bought it but I actually really like the look of it. It looks clean and wipes easily. It’s great size and fits great tucked away in the corner of our kitchen. I wouldn’t want any bigger for a kitchen garbage because it needs to be taken out due to food being thrown away. You don’t want it to sit too long in your kitchen. I noticed in the picture reviews when I bought that many people did not hide the bag when they set up their trashcan. This makes no sense to me when it looks so much better with the bag hidden. I included pictures to show how to hide the bag. There is a plastic ring that goes in between the lid and the base. You just wrap the bag around the ring and stick the edges of the bag in the base. The ring holds the bag in place. Then you put the lid on and you can’t see the bag at all which looks so much classier than showing the bag. Love this trashcan and I will continue to buy ninestar whenever I need to replace this one!

Good garbage can
The garbage can in my kitchen butts up against my lower cabinets and countertop. I purchased this to replace a plastic foot pedal can from a big box store after I painted my kitchen cabinets because the hinge on the old one left marks from where the hinge rubbed against then every time it opened. I love that the hinge for this can is not at the very back of the lid, a feature I was specifically looking for, because it allows me to keep the can against my counter without having to worry about it scuffing the paint. The ring that holds the bag in place also does a much better job than my old can, as the old one would constantly come off if it was getting too full. With this can, when it’s close to getting full I can actually push the contents down a bit to make more room without the bag coming off. I left off a star because even though the sensor works pretty decently as described, but it does open sometimes when you walk by. Also, sometimes when you walk up to it and need to push the button to keep it open longer, it takes a few seconds to reset itself because the sensor goes off, you have to wait for it to close, and then you can push the button. These are minor to me, as the most important thing was for it to not scuff my cabinets & it matches all the other stainless/black appliances in my kitchen.

Nice trash can for the price
Bought this to replace older sensor trash can. This does not have an insert which was disappointing to me. It does have a plastic ring that secures the bag to the can. It is very lightweight and easy to move around. The sensor is sensitive but not so sensitive that it opens when you are passing by it. There is an on/off button that allows you to keep lid open, if needed. Uses 13-gallon plastic trash bags and comes with two-year warranty. Not sure of durability as I’ve just received it. For the money it’s a nice trash can.

Much better than what we had before
After 2 months of use this can has worked flawlessly so far. We went through several iTouchless brand cans before giving up and giving this one a shot. It is so much better. The itouchless sensor opened frequently when I was nearby but not close enough I wanted the trash to open and and at the same time closed on my hand a lot. The Ninestars seems to have a much more usable field of view - opening when I want and staying open until I am out of the way. Besides the sensor the itouchless opening mechanism was junk - plastic gears that easily carved shavings off each other and gummed up, especially since the mechanism didn't actually track where the lid was in open/close - it just ran the motor a certain number of seconds. The Ninestars lid is lighter and the open/close motion is more gradual - it doesn't make the mechanical straining noise that would make me worry it is destroying its internals, but will have to see how it fares in long term durability. Took a week to get used to the single button used for everything, but works well once used to it for turning it off/on or triggering it to stay open for a while.

Great addition to my kitchen
It works as it should and looks great in the kitchen. It’s nice to not have to try and open a trash can when you have hands full of trash. I wish it was a bit bigger, but fits my trash bags. I love it.

Auto open/close feature behaves as if from Twilight Zone
This is really amazing. TZone fans will remember the one in which a reclusive man hates machines and they end up ganging up and him, coming to life. I didn't know there were hands-free trash cans. I thought great idea, especially since my last to traditional ones stepper broke. I didn't realize until I already ordered or got it that it would require batteries. Which of course raises the question of how long they may last. I've had products in which the batteries died very soon. The product has an electric eye and instructions say it opens when you are just inches from it. It also says it opens instantly. Beware of the instantly claim, it's never true., Here's the TZone part: Many times, way more than half, when I just walk by, it opens. I figured it must be my lower body or sleeve. Yet -- and here's the spooky part -- the majority of the time when I go to use it, and am inches away, it doesn't open, so I have to find a sweet spot. When it works it's so nice, it opens with a little door creeking noise (like ghosts) and closes softly. But's the lid is flush. Guess what that means: you'd have to take it off the receptacle to open it if it stops working. I kept thinking, oh great, now the batteries will die much sooner. But then it went haywire. It stopped responding to commands. The on/off/open/close button allows leaving the lid open by holding it down for two seconds. Then it started to refuse to open and close, just started "misbehaving," like a child playing with the adult to drive him crazy. I wasn't going to return it because of the size. It is not expensive. Then I couldn't get it to close. It can be closed manually but it wouldn't budge. After playing with it a while, pressing the button, holding, after a while it suddenly started working normally. Now I'm back to having it open when I walk by. So it's the Zone because it seems alive! I have to be conscious of not getting close to the eye, all in the name of not having to replace the batteries in a short time. And now that I'm saying this I'm thinking if that happens and it ends up requiring new batteries frequently, then I'll want to return it but it will probably be too late. So many things in life is like this! Things that happen or don't with incredible reliability. For instance, seems like 100% of the time when I need the TV remote when something is playing I want to maybe make louder and the segment is winding down, as soon as I grab the remote and point, the TV segment ends. There's tons of thought about coincidences, whether they are true or not or what they might signify. Happens all the time on YouTube. I could be thinking about something, and it pops up. Then the most incredible thing happened. Two videos appeared in the first row about something I was thinking about or just saw, and then I was in shock when the next one was actually a video about coincidences. A number of times I'd be talking to my brother about something and later that day or the next a video on the subject appears. We figure there is phone monitoring going on, which is actually true except they claim it's not actual listening, but automated to catch suspicious terms. I've heard that many people experience these things. If you're intrigued, write me at satinwriter at gmail. Wait, here's another doozy. Periodically for days in a row I keep seeing 2 or 3 ones together. Usually digital clocks. It happens when I just happen to look at the time and am totally not trying to catch it. Not only that I have been ones in many other places including stock market ticker, and the time of a video length. Of course there are videos about this phenomenon as well. It even happens that I'll glance at the time and it will just at that very moment change from say 1:10 to 1:11, or 1:11 to 1:12. I mean I can see the switch directly. Oh it also appears on the screen of the treadmill at the gym, like calories and time. If you've read this far, reach out. Cheers.

Sleek elegant design and material for a bin that needs to be outside the cabinet
Packaging was secure and impressive. The overall material is good although i expected the lid to be also made of stainless like the bin. But, still a nice product and works very well.

Funcional
Se ve super bonito y es muy funcional, por el tamaño le cabe un chorro de basura. Por el sensor evitar estar tocando la tapa, lo cual lo hace super funcional y pro.

Excellent garbage can
This trash bin is all that and a bag of chips. The motion sensor works very well and doesn't go off every time you walk by, just when you aim at the sensor. It has a trap ring to hold the garbage bag, so no more fold downs, the top lifts and closes with good pace and the stainless steel case cleans up beautifully. It takes two D batteries which do not come with it, and it really has no manual open feature if you don't have the batteries, so buy a four pack that way you are prepared whenever the first two run out. The price of this unti seemed a little dear to me as a senior on a fixed income, but as soon as I set it up I saw the value. It is a quality item with a nice light lid that makes it easy to change the bag. I love the trap ring that holds the bag in place. I just love it.

Great product
I had bought an off brand one from a local store, but returned it after only a short period because it was junk. This one has been working wonderfully since I received it. It can be a little sensitive when the batteries are fresh, in that the lid opens when you’re simply walking by it.
