How do you install it?

Unlike a shotgun (non tactical) that usually uses a screw to secure it, this wraps around the rear edge of the stock, kinda like putting a tire on a rim. It fits nice and tight, buffs the recoil well for a cheapo 2 pk. I used these on an AR15, tactical 12guage, M4a1 and dpms ar10 with no issues

Can these pads helps in reducing the impact of the recoil?

Without the pad the hard edges of the butt caused bruising after firing less than fifty rounds. With the butt pad there was no bruising and very little discomfort.
