MOSI/MISO pins double up as the UART TX/RX pins
This took a long time to debug, but once I figured the UART pins for serial communication for Raspberry Pi were doubled up on on the SPI pins, it all worked fine. Used a Salaea to debug.

No access to firmware updates or changelogs
U-Blox for some reason does not provide access to firmware updates and other resources for ZED-F9T, unless you're a big client with an NDA. They don't even respond to emails or support tickets. Not even a reply indicating that they won't provide the firmware downloads. They just close tickets without responding. This means that not all the functionality which are in the docs do work with these SparkFun modules, which ship with an older firmware version. I ended up buying some boards from ArduSimple, which even with shipping from Europe to Seattle ended up being cheaper and much more useful.
