I had a great time reading this book. I think it's a bit more adapted to my style of learning, but my class had pre-reqs of a bio class, so I had no trouble going through (and mostly skipping) the first few introductory chapters. What I did enjoy were the latter chapters that started to delve more into specific microbio topics. It wasn't overwhelmingly comprehensive (intro text), but was thorough enough that it provided a solid base to jump into more advanced topics. My professor also provided a lot of information from his clinical/lab work to supplement the text on several topics (mostly immunology/cytology/virology). This book gave me enough information to start reading published papers, so I definitely recommend this for potential readers.

Good shipping, I tried getting the free 2 day because I am a student, but it wanted an .edu email address, which I do not have. The book as some marks, hopefully these have been noted before the book was sent to me. Overall, an excellent source for students to utilize a cheaper way of obtaining books!!!

I rented this book for a Microbiology class I was taking one semester, and it has helped me throughout the entire semester. Reading the chapter summaries helped me get an idea of what was going to be in the lectures, and then going back and actually reviewing the chapters before an exam helped me retain a lot more detail for each topic and was easy to understand! I don't know what I would have done without this exact book helping me. Microbiology is very detail and memorization intensive! The book came in perfectly new condition, and it was so easy to return the book with the shipping label provided by Amazon.

I rented this through Amazon for my Microbiology class and I'm glad I did. Good textbook, has everything I needed for class. It was also the best price I could find for a textbook rental. Renting my books through Amazon really saved me a lot of money this semester. I wish I found out sooner.

It's a hard subject regardless, so as you can imagine the book is a little dense. It's very small print and I get tired reading it most of the time. I'm also not a biology major, so I really don't find this book all that interesting. There's a lot of vocabulary, and I don't really think the book does a great job of defining the important vocab while you're reading the chapters. There are useful online sources you can use with the book, like taking quizzes on the chapters, but you have to purchase that separately. I'd recommend buying the online help, because as I said the book is dense. Overall it does it's job, but I wouldn't say it goes above and beyond with helping me understand the material for my class.

You can read this book even without having studied biology in detail. It's one of the best textbooks I've ever used. The pages are in color. The illustrations are superb. The coverage encompasses a wide range of topics and applications. The language is simple enough for anybody to understand. Irrespective of your academic background, if you take an interest in microbiology, study this text intensively.
