I'd almost given up on Philips Norelco trimmers. One thing I - and others - have complained about with their grooming devices and clippers has been the flimsy guards that were poorly designed. Both inexpensive and premium models were prone to bending with pressure and providing a less than consistent result. Finally the folks at Norelco have learned their lesson. The Groomsman 5000 comes with a very solid set of guards comparable to those found on typical hair clippers. The only complaint is the selection of lengths, which I'll address next. I'm pleased with the included attachments. The beard trimming blades work fine, but I use the regular hair clipper blades to trim my beard as the only guard the gives the right length fits that particular attachment. It's not much of an issue as both attachments perform about the same. The detail blades are good for getting into tight spots like under the nose and around ears. Speaking of nose, the nose and ear trimmer is solidly built so hopefully it will hold up better than other nose hair trimmers I've had. Unfortunately, that build may be one reason it can be difficult getting the hairs. The thicker metal means the blades aren't as close to the surface. In the past I used another Norelco trimmer made just for the nose and ears, and it cut incredibly close and was very effective. That model also broke very easily, and I went through three in less than a year. The jury's out on whether I'll continue to use this trimmer for that job or give up and buy a fourth soon-to-be-broken nose hair trimmer. The ability to rinse the attachments under water is a big convenience, as is the ease of changing them out. I'll still occasionally disinfect them with Clippercide spray, but for general cleanup rinsing (and drying) works fine. As for power, this trimmer is sufficient for my needs. It's certainly more powerful than my old Norelco with a rechargeable NiCad battery (and crappy guards). It also charges faster and lasts longer on a charge. Normally I use full size Wahl hair clippers to buzz my head close, but I decided to try doing so with this. Surprisingly it did a decent job. I had to go over spots a bit slower and more times, but the result looked good and the bare blades were gentle on my scalp. Don't expect the results or ease of cutting you'd get from corded or expensive cordless clippers, but it will cut. If I'm traveling I'll likely leave my big Wahl clippers at home and rely on these trimmers to do it all. The unit is also more than powerful enough for body grooming. My only major gripe is the lack of a charging indicator. It's impossible to know when the trimmer needs to be charged or is finished charging. It shortens lithium-ion battery life to drain them to empty repeatedly or to always charge them to 100 percent. I use them every day and about once a week I plug them in for about thirty minutes. That way the battery averages somewhere in the middle of its charge. If you're not as concerned with optimizing the lifespan of the battery I'd recommend just plugging it in for an hour after every few uses. It should be ok to leave it charging overnight occasionally as well. All in all, I'd definitely recommend this trimmer.

Norelco's a brand I've heard of *at all* before sitting down to buy my first electric razor, so I decided that this one was both well within my arbitrarily defined price range *and* probably not going to kill me upon turning it on. What I've received from this product is nothing short of a good shave. Well, that and the wave of emotions that come with finally being able to sculpt your facial hair into that distinct style I've been looking to try and emulate for a really long time, with the only limiting factor prior to this purchase being that I'm not very skilled with multi-blade razors and straight-edges scare the hell out of me. Enough rambling though, let's get into something of actual *substance* for this review. This set comes in 3 main parts - the body of the razor itself, the bag of various heads and guards available for this product, and the charging cable. The body is pretty lightweight and as uncomplicated as it gets - push head into top, press big silver button to start the buzzing of follicle culling. I charged it once so far and I have no idea how much battery it has left but it keeps turning on every time I need it so I'm not going to ask many questions. The accessories that come with this product are probably mentioned somewhere in the description, but my favorite ones are the standard head, the wide head that kind of looks comical in some really esoteric way, and the tiny little brush that I realized you're meant to use to sweep out any wayward hairs that fall into the top where the razor head fits in. I mean, so long as I don't need to use a toothbrush to do that part, I'm all for it. The charging cable is there too, and looks nice along the right wall of my bathroom, perpetually plugged into the wall outlet and doing literally nothing. Overall, I like this thing. It was relatively inexpensive and lets me go from "homeless and/or hipster" to "functioning member of society who ~definitely~ didn't wake up at 1:30 and have a hot pocket for "breakfast"".

Plenty of power. Can't imagine needing more battery, lasts hours. Ergonomic, economical. Bang for the buck you can't do better. My girlfriend just cut my hair using it. She's a professional barber, 50 years experience. She said "wow, this thing is great!" I'm completely satisfied. Glad I bought it. On the other hand, after 6 months the power button would turn it off. Couldn't get it to turn off. I guess a plus would be that it was nearly indestructible. After repeatedly throwing it on the ground really hard I had to smash it with a hammer to get it to stop.

Purchased in March 2025 and the battery no longer charges after owning it for 10 months. While the overall quality was otherwise good, it’s unfortunate that the Philips quality has deteriorated so negatively.
