Marmite Yeast Extract 500g (Pack of 1)

I grew up with this stuff, I love it. My previous 500g jar lasted years, well past due date and tasted the same from first to last, this is one for the apocalypse stash. 😆. The only thing noticable between this new jar and the previous jar is the consistency, it's seem a little thinner, runnier and not as viscous as I remember.Had some last night on hot buttered toast, Mmmmmmyum 🤤😋

I have eaten Marmite since I was a child, I’m now 81 and still love it! I mix mine with softened butter, makes spreading easier. I eat it on bread and crackers. I even spread it on slices of cheese. It might seem expensive but a little goes a long way. A jar this size 500g lasts a long time. It’s also very good used as a brown gravy mix.

Grew up on Marmite, it's always a delight to have it in my kitchen and on my toast or wherever or whenever I'm in the mood..😊

Many years ago, Vitam R was available on Amazon US, it was the exact same product I was used to in Germany. It seems that is no longer is and I was hoping that this product was an alternative. IT IS NOT. This product looks like it but tastes horrible, is bitter and I would never use it as a bread spread as the various varieties of Vitam R can be. Not sure what use I might find for it, but definitely not the use I intended it for as the flavor is just horrible.

I decided to indulge my curious nature and try some. After all they say this brewers yest extract is chocked full of B-vitamins. I was told that Marmite is 'sweeter' than standard vegemite. Well - let me tell you- I could taste nothing sweet at all. The salt content was overwhelming and as they say - use it sparingly.If I were making a meat sandwich or some other dish requiring salt, I would easily substitute this product. As far as health, I'm sure people that must watch their sodium levels might have an issue. The material is slightly pungent but it was the saltiness that I remember most. I suppose it does taste better than drinking a bottle of soy sauce. The texture of Marmite reminds me of very thick molasses.My advice is that it would be a better substitute for salt since it brings in a large compliment of B-vitamins. If you try to eat it by itself - a few pints of beer may be needed to prevent dehydration -lol.Cheers

Lovely product, but it is not delivered in the glass jar pictured, but in a fragile plastic jar; the bottom breaks very easily.

Price is a bit off-putting but you just gotta have it.
