Easy, Exactly what it promises to do, it DOES. Sturdy, heavy materials and metals.
YES it's a winner winner chicken (or vegetarian if you like) dinner! seriously it is awesome. I upgraded to THIS CABLE from the other PIN-out firewire type cabling, which is/was a Six PIN fireWire 400 *four hundred* format of cable. The 400 essentially worked and did the job super well, but MANY DROPPED FRAMES from the source device, an old camcorder. HDV and DV built by Canon.. .. .. . . .. . Now attaching THIS Firewire 800 to my internal card (also available cheaply easily on Amazon) away I went, faster, much more synchronized and 'sympatico/sympathetic' to my Studio Software, my Vid Editors, all of the interactions are better and smoother ---------- MOST IMPORTANTLY ---- With this I had zero dropped frames! Literally I watched some of the count and the final count in the software and this lost ZERO frames, after grabbing (no term decided by the industry) all the footage from HDV camcorder. NO loss! This works well with Windows Live Movie Maker (old school classic software, so good!) and Pro' stuff..... No regrets, it IS a little chunky. That said, the high quality is what makes it a little chunkier. It such a firm connection to the internal board, which I WANT, you must nudge and nurture it to the connection, then yer fine. I'm saying, it is precise to the MilliMeter and this is my first firewire cabling, is that normal? Probably. It all works and has not damaged anything. Best cable from dozens I own, even HDMI pooorer.

Great cable for sony 8mm TRV350 to iMac
I bought a used TRV350 sony 8 mm video camera April of 18 , doing the conversion of 8mm tape to digital . first to an old apple G4 powerbook with firewire 400 cable which worked well but filled the drive . All the 1394b means is the video camera can be controlled from the keyboard . Stop play ff rewind , and works well . If you have the older 8 mm the video is a bit better the a kennedy video , still nice memories . I first tried the cable on my 09 iMac which seemed not to fit firewire 800 but one review listed as the same camera and computer I had . So figured I would just eat the mistake order or wrong shipment . A week went by and gave it another try ,the fire wire 800 end looks like two male ends . So I aligned the two 800 plugs and with more pressure than normal it just slid in . More pressure on the camera digital video plug ,,,,, Zingo it all works . With the iMovie it runs great , run the whole tape or stop and start as you like . Have a big hard drive , as 350 mb was 1:43 seconds of video time . Great fun I would recommend the camera and iMac combo for 8 mm sony work . Recommend it to all

Awesome cable, excellent price
Hola Had to buy one of these little guys to hook up my oldschool Panasonic pv-gs80 camcorder to my iMac. I visited 2 local stores trying to find a cable that would allow me to go mini firewire to firewire 800 (my iMac only has an 800 port on the back.... how...handy........... ) and each cable was around $20-$40 in price. Ridiculous! Thought, what the heck, this cord is only a couple bucks (plus shipping of course) and I took a chance on it. Fantastic little cord - iMac has no issues seeing my little camcorder, the cord hasn't been flukey at all with me capturing loads of footage, and the connector's both seem very secure and don't jiggle loose from my iMac or my little camcorder. Smarter...not harder... If you're in need of one of these little cords - I highly recommend this. You'll save oodles of cash and not sacrifice any quality. Stop paying for brand markup on cables :)

Works
Since there is not a lot of call for Firewire anymore, there's not a lot of Firewire cards, cables, programs, or info out there anymore. I bought a Firewire capture card and this looked like an ok cable from the online ad. The cable has worked flawlessly and the quality of the construction seems top notch. I don't have anyway of lab testing it for speed or anything else, but so far it has worked fine for transferring about 50 MiniDV movies from a camcorder to my PC capture card and then to Windows playable movies. Recommended.

Well made it does what is supposed to do.
First of all yes it works with a macbook pro with retina display. Although you need an apple adapter from firewire 800 with 9 pin to tunderbolt, connect the thunderbolt to your mac and the 1394b to you mini dv camera and then connect the 800 male to the female you should end up with a white cable comming out from your mac that attaches to a black cable that goes to your mini dv camara. Also do not expect to hear the tum tum sound that plug and play hardware do when you connected to windows. In mac just go to imovie and open the camera from there. I have a canon gl2 and canon xl2 both of them used mini dv. The cable construction is good and this a cheaper way to connect your old mini Dv cameras to the latest apple computers which don't come with 800 firewire.

Works Great!
I purchased this to transfer movies from my Digital 8 player to my Mac Imovies. It has worked great so far. I already transferred about 20 tapes. The main reason I did not give it 5 stars... and very important is that place where I plug it int my camera is circular and the plug is rectangular and does not go in all the way. Im actually surprised it works. But it does!

Works great, great price!
So thrilled when I received this cord. Using it to transfer video from a mini DV tape in my Panasonic Digital Palmcorder (Model PW-DW200D) to my Macbook Pro computer using iMovie. Have been using the cord for over a month and it works exactly as expected. No reason to pay more in stores. Highly recommend. Double check that this is, in fact, the type/size you need for your devices. My only explanation for the negative reviews is the possibility of people purchasing the wrong cord for their equipment, or maybe there were just a few defective ones out there? Mine fits perfectly and works great!! No connection issues, and I have been using it for hours a day to transfer large amounts of video.

The Cable came very very late. But its worth the wait. I've been using it with an old Panasonic DVX 102B camcorder. Somebody trip on the cable while shooting and the firewire pin of camcorder broke but nothing happen to the cable. Its a good product and I am happy with the product, though the waiting is painful :-)

Da ich noch ein anderes Kabel gekauft hatte, was mittlerweile funktioniert (kurzfristiges Blackout meines Rechnerprogramms), habe ich dieses Kabel retourniert und kann daher leider keine Rezension abgeben.

This was exactly the cable I needed to connect my Sony camcorder to my MacBook so I could capture my old videos.
