Watch out for over-sized stem rings - plus 9 years later
Edit May 2022: Bought these and chair again in August '13 after a long-distance move, and both still going strongโso they definitely deserve 5 stars for longevity under a big heavy guy! Edit July 2013: These casters are still working perfectly on the Ravino chair nearly two years later. I am now ahead financially, having saved on two mat replacements, and that looks set to continue. Perfect rolling action, zero problems--this is a top-class product. I was ready to change my rating to five stars if the seller had updated their FAQ page to address the issues expressed here over the years. But no, they haven't--so I haven't. Great product let down by inattentive seller. Original review September 2011: Installed these yesterday after my chair mat almost succeeded in stabbing me with another broken shard of hard plastic. Fine casters so far, moving well on standard office carpet. I deducted a star after experiencing installation problems, and not finding a scrap of help on the seller's website. Seller, you already have a questions page, I recommend you include answers to some of the questions or issues raised in these reviews. First caster installed fine with strong hand pressure--as did the fourth, later. Second didn't, but eventually went in with some light tapping from a small hammer. However, this didn't work with the third [or fifth] caster, and I wasn't about to start any serious hammering. I tried different casters on different chair legs, in case it might be an issue of two maximum machining tolerances causing a failure. Getting the first two casters in suggested it wasn't the main caster stem which was the issue, and led me to quickly identify the problem as badly shaped metal rings in the groove at the head of the caster stem--they were jutting out too far beyond the diamater of the stem. They are very strong rings, I couldn't squeeze them smaller with a needle-nose pliers. I went with the easier solution of prying off the problem rings, and then using the rings from the old casters in their place. These other rings were a little more flexible, I was able to shape them with the pliers both to open [to get them on the stem] and finally close them a little. Miracle Casters popped in fine after doing this. The function of the rings seems to be to hold the casters in the chair leg, without one the caster was totally free to slide on and off the leg. I'm only guessing that you could use the casters just fine without the rings, but they'd fall off if you lifted the chair--not too big an occasional deal for most people, probably. Fyi, I'm using these casters with Alera Ravino Big & Tall Series High-Back Swivel/Tilt Leather Chair, Black , they might be overkill with smaller less sturdy chairs, especially ones without metal legs.

No more chair mat needed on my rug
When adjusted to its highest setting, my desk chair was about 3/4 of an inch short of the height I wanted it to be. These wheels gave me the height I needed while keeping my expensive chair. As an added bonus, I grew annoyed with replacing cracked plastic chair mats ever couple of years. Once I removed my plastic mat, the chair rolled with ease on my short area rug. The smaller stock wheels made movement too difficult without a mat. I had a tough time removing the wheels that came with and had been on my chair for a few years, but these snapped into place with a good smack. I'm very happy with these jumbo-sized casters. I thought they looked a bit silly at first due to the exaggerated size, but the functionality makes them a win for me.

First impression after a weeks use, absolutely awesome on carpet
These are everything claimed, Worth the price even with shipping to NZ These work supurbly on my desk rug on carpet. They're very gentle on both with their large surface area, roll easily and raise the chair base nicely offering lots of clearence for my old hanging out the bottom cylinder which was previously catching on the rug Purchased to replace office oasis blade, which were purchased to replace stock Aeron carpet castors. The blade style castors helped things one way by lifting the base, but crushed, and mangled the rug badly due to their small contact surface area. The Miracle castors are really comfortable, and feel very solid so far. They are biigg and make the chair somehow look more imposing.. but I like that too

These work well
I'm a bit overweight so the small wheels that come with a chair dig in to the mat too much. These make gliding over the mat easier.

Best Chair Wheels Ever!
Absolute BEST wheels ever for carpet. Hands down. The BEST! And have tried so many other type wheels. Super easy install. The roll on carpet is fantastic. No sticking or the wheels digging in.

FINALLY! Casters made especially for great mobility on all surfaces and for tall/large people!
Somewhat pricey, but more than worth the money! Since retiring to my man cave a few years ago I have been through almost a half dozen different caster designs and sizes and have finally found the best caster set anywhere! Odd looking but extremely versatile, these "Big Wheels" check off all the boxes. They fit perfectly, rotate smoothly and roll quietly over all of the surfaces that I have tried them on. In addition, they add a little more than an inch for tall users and do not strain under the weight of a large man, like me. No matter what chair I might purchase in the future, these are the only casters I will ever use! You cannot go wrong with these Big Wheels!

Big Wheels Made a Big Difference
I saw a guy review these on YouTube and saw the difference in how the chair glided on the carpet vs the older skate-line wheels. I have a throw rug over wall to wall carpet which is not a great setup for wheels. Since we can't change the location of the office at the moment, figured these were worth a try. They are BIG! But, I am guessing that is what makes the differences. I can actually use my feet to push the chair around. Whereas, previously, even with using both arms to move the chair, it didn't scoot well once someone was seated. Replacement was very easy. I popped off the old wheels with a screw driver placed flat between the bottom of chair leg and the caster and did a minor pry down towards the caster and it popped right off and the new ones went in to the old slots with no issues. Quick fix and cheaper than a new chair before moving. Over time, this will wear down the carpet though. In our case, it didn't matter.

I can roll on carpet so smooth.
These casters are huge, it's makes my chair look like a monster truck. These roll great on carpet and they have a 10 year warranty! If they break just send the broken one in and the company replaces it. My old chair casters for my Fuego task chair kept breaking on the carpet. The casters would crack in the plastic so the actual wheels and metal axel would fall out of the housing. I got these to solve 2 problems, breakage and carpet rolling. So I got these and popped them in and rolled like a dream. The next day, 2 casters fell out of my base. My base is the typical vinyl/plastic you find on most chairs. The part where the caster goes in was cracked, I don't think these casters caused it, it was probably due to my old casters breaking and me tilting onto the carpet when it happened. So I bought a metal base and put the caster's in. It was a real PITA getting them in, but I found a good tip on the 3rd one. Put baby oil or other lube on the caster stem and in the base ring where you insert it, it makes the process either but I still had to really press them in. If you're on carpet these casters are a must buy, they roll very easy on carpet and give some extra height to your chair. When/If I replace my chair, I'll use these casters and my metal base.

Second time buyer.
Second purchase, so obviously satisfied. Excellent ! Very heavy, so I assume sturdy. Roll way more easily than 2" wheels, and don't make the shallow indentations in my chair mat that caused me to buy these expensive wheels. Also worked well directly on our low-pile industrial carpet. Boosted my chair height by a very useful 2 inches, because the maximum seat height was not quite high enough, before.

These wheels are fantastic..
These wheels are fantastic.....I have them on an aluminum frame and they roll along on my rug covered floor covered with a heavy plastic surface with no problems at all....My friend has a chair with 3 inch ... I have also installed anti-static strips on both mats so there are no static surprises with electical jolts... worked out great...!!!

Great in medium pile carpet
The old wheels on my Aeron were dying, and I moved to a place where my chair was on a medium depth carpet, and I was basically immobile. I did some research and found out that those rollerblade-style wheels that are extremely popular and prevalent aren't necessarily super good on carpet, so I took a chance on these. 10/10, would recommend. Definitely what you're looking for with carpeted floors. I've seen the reviews saying that the larger wheels may strain the base of the chair. This is not a problem on the Aeron, which has a metal base.

Solved my problem!
I have carpet with underpad and the regular wheels on my chair sunk in. And my plastic chair pad didn't help. With these giant wheels, I can move my chair easily....it still sinks in a bit, even with the chair pad, but very easy to roll around. Recommend!
