Alden 8440P Pro Grabit Broken Bolt and Damaged Screw Extractor 4 Piece Kit - Made in the USA

I was skeptical if this would work with my drill since its only 12 volts. I had trouble removing a screw when installing an audio system in a car and the screw ended up getting stripped since I was trying to remove it manually with a screwdriver. At first I thought this was pricey, but compared to other places this was as cheap as it was going to get. I was gonna give up on installing my system but I gave this a try and it actually worked. Its simple to use. You just follow the instructions, bore out a hole in the stripped screw or nail and then flip the tool and extract it. Note you should wear saftey glasses. I didn't have alot of fillings flying around but there were a couple. Also make sure you apply pressure when boring and extracting. Not extreme pressure but pressure like you were drilling/driving a screw in. Also make sure your drill is in reverse. Since my drill was low powered I had it on the highest torque setting. Another thing is to make sure you go slowly, not the speed of a turtle, but slightly slower than what you usually do when drilling. If you have a trigger drill try to pull the trigger slightly don't gun it or you'll possibly make the stripped screw worse or break the tool. You should not have to drill that much to get the tool to bore the hole and once you do that you flip it and use the extractor side to remove it. Know that you will also have to go slow doing this step. It gives the tool a chance to get a footing in the hole that was made so it can catch onto the screw or bolt.

This kit did a great job helping me remove a brake disc screw on my bike. It’s convenient to have the drill and extractor in one tool. However, I tried to use it on a broken bolt in my car, and the bit ended up snapping. It seems these bits aren't heavy-duty enough for seized automotive hardware. If you are working on bikes or lighter projects, this is a solid choice, but be careful if you use it for anything larger or more stubborn.

So about year and a half ago I hung a 19' flatscreen on the wall in the den. And it was a horrible experience. You see, whoever the "engineer" was that designed it should be flogged and their engineer credentials shoved up their... You had to screw two 1/4×3" screws (those are pretty big) into a 2×4 stud in the wall using a hex key. A hex key is the hardest tool to work with, and stripped out the head of the screw about 1/4" away from being tight. That's after pre-drilling the hole. So the whole mount has been loose all this time. And you can't undo it because the hex key stripped out the head. The words coming out of my mouth at the time would have made a truck driver blush. So it finally came time that I wanted to fix it by doing it right and replace the crappy screws they sent with proper lag bolts you'd install with a socket wrench. So I bought the Grabit screw extractors. Sure they're late night TV fodder, but figured I'd give it a shot, as the set was cheaper than individual screw extractors at Home Depot. And they worked wonderfully. I had those crappy screws removed in about 5 seconds. Then using a proper method of a socket wrench had the whole thing remounted in about 2 minutes instead of the half hour I spent the first time cussing and yelling. Anyways, the set of Grabits are [........], and every tool kit should have a set.

I made the mistake of thinking that even if this did not work, it would not make the problem worse. Wrong. I needed to remove several 3/4" screws which were frozen in a cooktop. The philips slots were worn, but otherwise the heads and screws appeared undamaged. To make things as easy as possible for the screw remover I sprayed the screws with PB Blaster and let that work for 2 days. The burnishing end made appropriately sized holes. However, the remover end simply would not grab the edges of the hole the burnishing end made. And, yes, my drill was in reverse, at low speed. I applied pressure and angled the remover per the instructions, no luck. Until I got to the third screw. On it the removing end threaded into the screw head as it was supposed to do. The screw started to back out. One revolution. Looking good. Second revolution. Making progress. But then, words that may not be reprinted in this review. The tip of the removing end broke off, firmly embedded in the screw head, just as is reported by so many other reviewers who have given it 1 star. Because the remover is "Tempered twice for extra hardness" it is brittle and prone to breaking, and when it breaks it is a bear to grind out. If you choose to ignore this warning and buy this product, be sure you have your dremel at hand with a good supply of grinding stones. I believe this is the first 1 star review I have given, but 1 star is generous. I figure that 1 star is appropriate for a product of no value, but since this made my problem worse when it broke off, I would like to give it a negative rating. I know that many people have had success using this product. I congratulate them on their luck. But too many people report the same problem of the removing tip breaking off. Since it broke for me while the screw was turning I must conclude that I was not overstressing it, and there must have been a defect in the metal or manufacturing process. Once I cleaned up the mess left by the broken tip, and removed the head of the screw, I was able to grab the screw shaft with a vise grip, and the screw came out easily. Do yourself a favor and do not take a chance with this product.

Taking the roof rack off an FJ cruiser, bolts were seized a bit but with a little luck and elbow grease they were coming out...until they werent. T40 torx head screws and I ended up stripping two of them out. I tried some of many no name types you see on amazon that you hit in w/ a hammer and ratchet out, no luck. I then saw a Project Farm video where he reviewed extractors and called GrabIt Pro the best. My next option was probably an 8 hour day of pulling down the headlines, so figured why not. I got these in a couple days and after a little squirt of PB blaster and very little effort on the part of the GrabIt Pro, both screws were out and my butt was saved. I can't recommend these enough!

Be aware, these do "work" but the metallurgy is garbage and they will break. That is not to say don't buy them - definitely do buy them - it's just that the quality is not up to snuff. The convenience factor is very high with this tool. The work fairly well and are much faster and less expensive than the alternatives from Irwin and others. Buy the Irwin as a quality tool and use the Irwin tool on anything that matters. Buy this tool as a small, compact, easy-to-carry stopgap and use this tool on anything you would have otherwise bashed with a hammer out of anger because it doesn't matter - you'll get a much better result. If you know tools, this will make sense to you. Lastly, DO NOT use an impact driver on these, they will snap like matches. use a hand tool and go slow.

Very pleased with them. Had a screw holding the barrel lock in my PVC door which was mangled. Used this and it came out straight away. Important to follow the instructions and use a LOW speed with the drill

I had stripped the screw heads on the screws holding brake rotors in place. I had tried removing them with a similar tool however, that extractor broke. These extractors are much stronger and I was able to remove the screws. I recommend that you start with a smaller extractor first and then use the one that is sized for the damaged head.

Alden is the only ones worth buying! I had a set for 4years with heavy use, only wore out one! Tried a cheap nock off set! N went back an bought another set of Alden! Buy once but right!
