Well made and versatile
I purchased this Hori knife as a gift after previously buying an identical one for myself. I am a home gardener in a rural area and use it for whatever task is at hand, from digging in the dirt to trimming back wild vines. The measurements on the blade are especially useful for planting bulbs at the right depth. It's perfect for transplanting where the root ball may need to be cut cleanly. It's like a Swiss Army Knife for gardening! The Japanese stainless steel is high quality, maintaining its edge well. Perhaps a full tang would be even better, but I've never had an issue with the mid-tang. I have a small hand, but I'm not uncomfortable using it. I do recommend it!

Perfect for weeding.
I love this tool. I use it in my yard but also take it to the public trails near our house to dig up tumbleweeds. If the ground isn't too rocky and hard, it's the perfect tool.

Authentic. Made in Japan. This is my go-to latrine digger. One is rather vulnerable when on latrine duty, and this thing makes a Ka-Bar look like a toothpick. Recommended 100%.

Stellar quality
I'd purchased the Fiskar version of this tool and didn't feel comfortable with it in my hand and it seemed awkward on my belt. After more digging, I bought this Nisaku. Wow, it the difference distinct! The Nisaku blade is heavier (sturdier) and the tool is more balanced in your hand. And, on your belt it seems to mould to your body better. And it is sharper, in my opinion.

Nisaku fumbles despite good quality steel
I work on an industrial hemp farm and spend a lot of time in the field. The size, shape, and effective utility of this trowel design is without equal. The. Japanese steel used is a type produced from a manufacturer of some renown. The workmanship of the blade itself is well above average, which is to be expected. The rest is a confusing mess. The mid-tang construction defies explanation as this alone nullifies the use of steel better than any you will likely find in Chinese versions. I would have gladly paid half again as much for this same trowel, but full tang. For a digging tool it is far too vulnerable to blade separation from the handle when leverage is applied. Prying is almost out of the question. There are far stronger trowels available if reliability when subjected to demanding tasks is a priority. Most puzzling of all is the included sheath. It is of the lowest imaginable quality in every regard. If not a crime against humanity, it certainly should be considered an embarrassing insult to the Japanese people and to the nation of Japan. I like this tool very much, but I have little confidence in it's strength.

The best garden tool I have
I did not know there was something like this just a couple months ago. Now, I can't do without it. It is easily the most useful garden tool I have.

Fantastic garden knife.
Fantastic garden knife. My only gripes would be that it is not full tang and the sheath is faux leather.

Worth it
This is my absolute tool in my garden shed.. the only real hori hori knife. There is a lot of look a likes that won’t hold up or even compare. No need to sharpen, this knife will keep its edge for years. Unlike all the cheap knock offs that come with a case and sharpening stone… I’ve had mine for 7 1/2 years before I unfortunately lost it somewhere in the dirt. I didn’t think twice about buying a new one. It’s worth every penny Thank you for making such a great product
