Much better than the 2500 and 3000 series
I had been using this to cover a gate for many years with the 2500 and 3000 series. The new 4000 series seems to work much better. People walking by will set off the alarm but I wanted it to detect vehicles waiting at the gate. With the old system it was a bit hit and miss but the newer system has not so far in 2 weeks failed to detect a vehicle waiting at the gate. One problem with this system is that it will work great with a car which is warm but often fails to pick up a car exiting which I put down to the car not warm. As is used to detect a vehicle arriving then the chances are it will not be a cold just started up vehicle this has worked OK for what I needed. If you would need it to be 100% on vehicle detection on warn or cold vehicles then it maybe better to go for the probe version or the rubber hose version. I could not use the probe as is too close to the road and next to a large metal gate. I did also buy the rubber hose version but have yet to try as this is so far doing the job and I still have not been able to straighten out the rubber hose which came coiled up. The new style pager receiver is almost twice the size of the old style but battery lasts much longer and is much more reliable receiving a signal. I have found it well worth the money and works much better than the older 2500/3000 series.

Have watched this product over the years and finally bought one. I like it but the wife is not happy with the false alarms. It seems that it picks up the swaying of branches 20 feet away. There is no information about the left/right limits of the viewing angle but overall so it is a trial and error placement. We now know when deliveries are arriving without being surprised!

-----UPDATE: No false alarms after more than two months of use!!! Literally none. -----ORIGINAL: While the setup of the sensor takes a minute, and is not easy to see tiny text on control board, it is over and long forgotten. The sensor, once installed onto a well-planted, 4' high 4"x4" post, has had zero false alarms in the first week of use. Also does not appear to have missed a vehicle yet, which is so much better than all of the other systems I have tried. I have tried MANY systems, including owning the older, black Dakota driveway alarm, it worked very well and is the reason why I chose Dakota again this time. The passive infrared is the way to go if you are using the sensor in a windy area or with lots of small animals/birds. We used to get dozens of false alarms day and night, and now there is peace and quiet in the house. The wireless receiver can be carried around the property with me (3.5 acres) or taken from room to room to keep me alerted to traffic on our road. Also can be set to vibrate and is only the size of a thick iPod. We live in a 5-home, no-outlet subdivision and there are generally only our neighbors & deliveries to be aware of. So when it goes off in the middle of the night, action is warranted. Sensor is installed approx. 250' from receiver and transmits through cement stucco walls. Very valuable tool, seems reliable, worth the cost compared to the 100's of dollars I have wasted on IR motion sensor systems that crap out quickly in Arizona weather. One other feature, this passive IR system does NOT glow red like the regular IR systems. Their red glow eventually attracted birds, which pecked at the plastic and then broke the sensors!! Recommended so far, tossing my Guardline in the trash and purchasing 3 more sensors for this Dakota system.
