How long is the handle?

15 inches, my grandson at 16 months can not use it anymore since it keeps riding up the back of his shoes or (ankles), then he would trip.

Is this too small for a 5 year old?

Yes I think it would be. I bought this for my 1 year old grandson. It is the perfect size for him and when he gets a little older..

i forgot to put on the handle how do i get off the wheel now

Hi Jean: To remove the wheel, you will want to place the wagon on its side to get some leverage over the wheel. If you have the red cap assembled, you will want to remove this first with a flat head screwdriver. Once the cap is removed, you can apply some force to pull the wheel up by hand. With a little force this should detach from the axle so you can assemble the handle. Once corrected, the wheel will then snap back into place as before.
