Excellent Adaptor for adding an extra Ethernet Port to a Mac Mini running Mac OS X
I needed to set up my Mac Mini as a file server, connecting to an iSCSI RAID drive made by Drobo (a DroboPro to be precise). To do so, I needed to add another ethernet port to my Mini, so that I could have one port for connecting the Drobo, and one for talking to the network. To address this issue, I looked in to the Thunderbolt Ethernet adaptor from Apple. Unfortunately, no information that I could find would confirm that these adaptors would work with anything other than MacBook Airs. As such, I decided to take a chance, try it out on my Mini, and if it worked great, if not, I would return it. I purchased it and waited for it to arrive. Once it arrived, I immediately plugged it in to the Mini. Unfortunately, nothing changed in the Network Interface list in Network System Preferences...Darn - maybe it isn't supported....I thought. It also seemed very loose when plugged in to the port, much looser than a mini-display port adaptor. That seemed strange due to the fact that they were the same size plug. For the longest time, I couldn't realize why the Mac Mini would not recognize the presence of the adapter, while when used on my MacBook Pro it was recognized perfectly. Eventually, I placed a light back in the networking closet and realized that the adaptor wasn't pushed in all the way! Once I pushed in the adaptor all the way, it worked perfectly on my Mac Mini running Mac OS X 10.8. It was recognized instantly and the thunderbolt ethernet port automatically appeared in the network system preferences. I now have a connection to the Drobo RAID array that is at least 3x faster than before. This is a great little adaptor for use in Mac Mini computers running OS X. Highly Recommended, just make sure to push it in all the way, with a little more force than you might think is needed.

works great macbook pro 2014
works great with my macbook pro 2014. Haven't had any problems with it, just plug it in and go! Hard to find these older parts anymore.

Great product to true gigabit speeds, doubtfully it's any better performing than a USB-3 device.
I purchased several of these to provide a wired ethernet connection to several Late-2013 MacBook Pros in our office. These work well and provide the expected throughput. However; looking back I realize that I should have purchased USB-3 ethernet adapters and leave the thunderbolt ports reserved for external displays. In our office our MacBook users are all using two external displays, so by taking up one of the two thunderbolt ports, this means that one of the external displays has to be driven by the HDMI output. While the HDMI output works well, you don't have as many adapter choices as you do with Thunderbolt, so we lose just a little flexibility by using these adapters instead of USB-3. One thing this has going for it over a USB adapter on a MacBook is there are no drivers needed and it works perfectly out of the box. If you're after no-hassle full-speed ethernet and don't see yourself using your only thunderbolt port on a MacBook air, or one of the two ports on a MacBook Pro, then go with this. Otherwise I'd recommend trying a USB-3 ethernet adapter instead of this Thunderbolt adapter as they're cheaper and should be just as fast, in theory.

A must have accessory for MacBooks for any frequent traveler or wired home network users! Worth it.
The thunderbolt gigabit Ethernet adapter is a fundamental tool that I use on a daily basis. In the current era of wifi and thinner and thinner laptops, the 20+ year ethernet jack is no longer necessary on every laptop. The design constraints it placed on apple made the move to a small adapter a logical and easy one. I have a home with gigabit Ethernet in every room and prefer to have a wired connection if I am sitting at my desk or in the living room on the couch. I have tried other usb Ethernet adapters, but none seem to "just work" every single time like the apple adapter does. I've never had an issue with these and they are well worth the 30 dollars to have around, even if you only use it when transferring large files or backing up data. Pros: -very reliable (never had one fail or break in 2+ years). -provides true "gigabit" speeds comparable to other macs with built in gigabit Ethernet -small enough to easy throw in a travel bag or drawer Cons: -only complaint is that the thunderbolt plug can sometimes come unplugged with a tiny bit of cord tension (unlike the locking/clicking of typical Ethernet jack). However, easily remedied by plugging it right back in and starts working again in seconds

Works as advertised, got my Migration done with it.
If your town's internet speeds are anything like mine, migrating from an old MBP to a new one over WiFi will be an exercise in faith and patience. My router isn't fast enough to even stream an HD movie, never mind 200GB of my crap from one Mac to another. This dongle allowed me to use ethernet thru the T-bolt port, which was much faster but not yet out of the evisceratingly-slow speed range. 6 hrs later, it finished... and I'm pitying the fool that tried to do this with a 10Mbps router over WiFi... Pros: if you have a late-2013 MBP 15" and want to migrate from an older machine (with a dedicated ethernet port), this is the fastest way. Typical Apple build quality, excellent. Cons: Cost, of course... no more wired internet w/o this part.

A High Performance Ethernet Connection for Your Mac via the Thunderbolt Port
This is a good Apple-made add-on device that allows you to connect a wired Ethernet cable to your Apple Thunderbolt port. So, before you buy it, make sure you HAVE Thunderbolt port on your mac. Most do after 2012, but you have to check your model in specific to ensure the port it present. The advantage? The thunderbolt port is much, much faster than either USB 2 or USB 3, and if you are hooking into a gigabyte speed wired network, the speeds can be really impressive.Yes, it's a bit too expensive, but I suspect there are some embedded electrical components within the plug bodies, and this is something you want working correctly, so on this particular item, I would go with the actual Apple model. It's too physically inflexible, but that might be a good thing in terms of longevity of life (i.e. no broken or frayed cables). And, remember, Thunderbolt is a daisy-chained based system, so even though you have only one Thunderbolt port, you simply keep attaching the next device with the cable to make a daisy chain, all operating at high bandwidth and high speed. Its an important add-on device for your Mac, and so I highly recommend it with five stars,

A reminder that the "pro" in MacBook Pro no longer stands for "professional."
Let's start with this- the adapter does exactly what it claims to do. It shows up as an ethernet port in System Preferences, and indeed allows you to connect an ethernet cord to a Thunderbolt port. It does this more or less flawlessly. So why 3 stars? Sadly, because it's the victim of Apple's latest "form over function" design practices. Let me explain. Ethernet cords are pretty simple- they have two main parts: the cord and the clip. Why does every ethernet cord have a clip on it? Because of how disastrous randomly losing a network connection can be. Imagine you're running a server with say hundreds of users in a live environment and someone just pulls the ethernet cord out of the computer- you'd be pretty upset. Even if you're not in a professional (what "pro" supposedly stands for in "MacBook Pro") environment, pulling an ethernet cord can mean interrupting downloads or streams or just about anything else you're using the network for. Also, truth be told, Finder's kryptonite seems to be losing ethernet connections, and as such will most likely lock up on you and/or crash when you do this. Up until recently, Apple put an ethernet port on their computers so you could clip the cord directly in, just like every other manufacturer. It worked great. With the introduction of the new Retina models, however, the ethernet port has been eliminated and replaced with a Thunderbolt port. Thunderbolt is superior in its versatility and speed with one MAJOR downside: there is no clip. So yes you can clip your ethernet line into this adapter, but the adapter will pull right out of your computer with almost no pressure needed. For people who use their Macs in professional environments, this is a sad development. Most people I know have resorted to taping the adapter to their computer, or simply refusing to upgrade to a machine that doesn't have built-in ethernet. It's an unnecessary source of additional stress to anyone who relies on their Mac for a living. Also somewhat embarrassing when a PC colleague says "You spent $2500 on your laptop and you have to tape your adapters on." Don't even get me started on the Kensington ports.

ATTENTION: Pas un USB C !!!
L'annonce n'est pas claire et si vous êtes novices en la matière (ce qui est mon cas) vous vous retrouvez en moins de deux avec un port usb qui n'est pas compatible avec votre appareillage...
