I've been using it for a few days so far and it works well and is very quiet. Also the guy who said it wouldn't fit a 17" laptop was wrong, it fits mine quite comfortably. It's lightweight and comfortable to use on my lap, and I've been surprised at how well it distributes the weight of my bulky laptop so it doesn't make my legs hurt, unlike some regular lap desks. I also like the fact that it doesn't have bright lights. But the best part and the reason I got it is because I can set my laptop down on my bed or another soft surface and not worry about it overheating! It keeps my laptop room temperature to the touch and the laptop's internal fans haven't kicked on once. Can't really comment on durability yet, except that I've leaned on it accidentally a couple times and it made a plastic crack sound but nothing seemed to be broken afterward, so it must've just been the plastic shifting. All in all, so far I'm happy with the performance for the price.

The Targus 17-inch Dual Fan Lap Chill Mat is the second chill mat I have purchased for my laptop. The first chill pad was a different brand. In my opinion, the Targus chill mat is a superior product to my first chill pad. The operation of the fans is quiet, and they run consistently without issue. I have not had an issue with my laptop feeling hot since I stated using the chill pad. The pad on the bottom of the chill mat provides a soft and comfortable barrier for the lap while working with laptop on lap. At first I had difficulty locating the USB cord that connects to the laptop and thought it had not been included in the package. On further exploration, the USB cord was located tucked securely between the plastic top of the mat and the soft neoprene bottom. The chill pad is not bulky or difficult to manipulate. It has bumpers to keep the computer in place which, based on my experience, could be improved on. I may add my own silicon pads. Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase and at this point I would not hesitate to buy one again.

This is an update to original review: I've had the AWE55US item for 2 years now and I use it regularly (about 6 hours a day) under my Alienware 15 R3. It has been quiet and sufficient to keep my lap cool while doing video editing, gaming, and normal day-to-day duties. There is a simple storage location on each end so the cable is not dangling when not in use. The foam-like material makes using this item on your lap comfortable and seems to allow your legs to breathe. I still have several minor problems with this unit: 1- the plastic edging on the left and right (teardrop shaped) ends, which caps the ends and is about 1/4 inch wide and can be rather sharp to the touch. The plastic trim goes all the way around the ends to keep the foam-like covering from fraying but when I place my hands under the mat to place it on the table it has a knife like edge to it. I haven't cut my hands yet but to be safe I am placed a band of electrical tape all the way around the edge to add a bit of comfort and eliminate the sharp edges. 2- The USB connector does not have a pass though so it will take one of your USB connections away. With the reduction in standard USB ports on most higher end laptops makes the loss of one USB connection potentially problematic. Also, the connector is pretty tall at a little over 1 inch (counting the rigid boot on the back of the connector. I suggest they provide a USB-C connector option and make the USB connector boot turned at a right angle to reduce how far out from the laptop it extends. In addition, it would be very helpful if the mat had a hole in the middle of the back to pass the cable out and up to the back of the laptop. The cable is just long enough to go out the left or right side to reach the middle of my laptop but the cable is rather taunt and can get caught easily if you are not careful. Passing the cable through the middle of the back would protect it better. I plan on using a drill to make this hole once the warranty runs out. Also the USB connector wire is merely plastic wrapped (perhaps to keep it more pliable) and mine is cracked at the USB end from wear and possibly the side exhaust heat. The addition of a small elastic string to the inside of the unit to help pull the excess cable inside would be lovely. 3-There is no fan speed control. The fans are not particularly loud but with a better set of fans and a speed adjustment this unit will move more air and would keep the user's lap cooler. Overall I am very pleased with this item and, except for the minor design flaws described above, would normally give it a full 5 stars. Targus usually turns out very good material but this item seems more geared to being inexpensive than comfortable and convenient.

This is a great laptop cooling pad and does exactly what I wanted. Most cooling pads are hard plastic with pointy legs. I actually use my laptop on my lap, so these other types are very uncomfortable. The Targus chill mat is very soft and comfortable, while still being rigid and supportive. Just a thin layer of cushion on both sides makes all the difference. I did have to get used to the increase in height but it is worth while. And most importantly, it WORKS. My Dell laptop would get So hot very quickly that it was uncomfortable both on the top and the bottom. As soon as I plug in the fan it is cooled off within just a couple minutes. I highly recommend this cooling pad. I don't know how long it will last. I often forget to unplug the fan when I stop using the laptop because it is SO SILENT so it runs overnight. I Have to lift the laptop and put my hand over it to tell if the fans are running. Overall very pleased. I paid full price for this and am not compensated for this review, just a happy customer. Just what I was looking for. The wedge shape works well for the lap or on other surfaces. Though thicker, the top and bottom are thin and easy to pickup with the laptop just using the top part. Works great with my 16”. Quiet, keeps the laptop cool under heavy processing.

Overall it's just okay. The surface that your computer sits on is a slick plastic. All that's meant to keep your machine from sliding around is four rubber (?) standoffs. But they are also pretty smooth and don't grip the laptop at all. My laptop just slides all around them. Fans are quiet and it seems to cool okay, but that's about it.

I can't recommend this laptop chill mat more highly, especially if you have a "lower end" laptop with those all too fragile hinges. I originally purchased this because I frequently rest my laptop on my legs and didn't like how warm it was. This device works wonderfully to fix that problem. An added benefit that I hadn't thought about originally is that by having a solid *portable* foundation under my laptop that means that when I pick up my laptop I am not putting any stress on the hinges; I am carrying the foundation, not my laptop directly. My husband has gone through a couple of laptops because the hinges have broken and then the screen has come apart due to carrying the laptop while open. This solid foundation under the laptop eliminates the stress put on the hinges if carrying it while it is open, or carrying it with one side. I love the neoprene cover as it's soft and comfortable on bare skin, and I love that the profile is effective without being "noticeable" or adding to weight or bulk. I don't think I could have come up with a better design, and if you're a person who moves your laptop around much, this device will save the stress on your hinges and screen. Highly recommend, even if you don't think you "need" it at the moment. Use it preventatively! It's completely worth it!

I looked at allot of these coolers as lately I’ve been doing some video editing in bed before sleep and my MacBook M2 16 inch gets a bit warm if pushed. Plus it’s hot on my lap. So I thought I’d give this a shot as it wasn’t as expensive as most others but seemed like it would do the job. Firstly it’s very comfortable on my lap now. I can be glued to my screen for a long time while my laptop is sitting on this Tagus cooler. It’s because it has a neoprene style bottom. It’s comfortable. The build quality is good, but this isn’t a heavy duty build I would say. It is rather lightweight and angled. It has a usb A cord that protrudes from its side so it can be plugged in to your laptop. New Mac users need an adapter which is 5 bucks on amazon. There are two sizeable fans in the middle of the stand that blow air towards the bottom of your laptop. They are extremely quiet and unless I put my ear right next to the laptop cooler I can’t hear them at all. There is only one speed. But, even with my video editing it keeps my MacBook Pro cool therefore I don’t feel anything warm on my thighs either. I would buy this again. It’s a good product and works. Recommended.

It is just as described- portable and lightweight, and so far working satisfactorily. Used with my Asus Zenbook as well as Lenovo ThinkPad, cooling and airflow all good.
