Ingenuity The Stairway 48W Series, 30'-48' Wide, 32" Tall, Baby Gate for Stairs with Door, Wood Safety Gate for Doorways and Stairways - Oak Wood

I installed this gate at the top of my stairs to corral my dogs. The opening I was working with was 30 inches wide. Installation was simple. I wanted to give my cats free access (and have no youngsters in my house) so I removed the upright post closest to the hinge. To do so, I used a hacksaw to cut through the post then twisted out each end. If you do this on yours, be warned that the posts are inserted with a dowel and brad nail. I was too aggressive when removing the lower section of the post and cracked the bottom rail near the hinge. It doesn't appear to have caused a fatal injury to the gate and some wood glue will likely help. This damage was my bad. And rather than lowering my rating of the product, it actually raised it. The wood is sturdy. The gate is designed so that you push the handle back slightly - shortening the gate slightly - in order to open it. Then to close, you get the gate in line with the latch and push the gate into the latch mechanism - lengthening the gate again. Opening the gate has caused no problems. It requires a bit more precision to close the gate. I just installed the gate yesterday so can't speak to durability - other than to say it is made of a much heavier wood than the $8 version sold at big box stores.

We've had it up for a week now. It feels very sturdy. It took me a little longer to install because I had to affix a piece of wood between the banister spindle and the gate, to have something flat and sturdy to attach the gate to. The only complaint I would have is that the squeeze trigger handle is red, whereas it is depicted as more ivory/white in all the pictures and videos, and even on the box it came in. Not a deal breaker for me, as it is such an improvement over our previous gate that our dog could push open when he was very motivated to do so. It does look very nice with my wood staircase!

I really love this gate but couldn't quite give it five stars. It's at the bottom of my stairs and is by far my favorite of the three types of baby gate I've bought. It's very sturdy *when latched*, but if it's unlatched, it is very, very fragile. My first one arrived broken in the mail and I thought it was a fluke--one of the rungs was cracked right through. It was replaced by the seller with no problem. But I've only been using the new one a couple of months and one of the rungs has a crack in it, causing it to hang crooked whenever it's unlatched. I feel like it's not going to last, which is a shame because it looks so nice (the nicest I've seen) and is so easy to use. I love the way it latches and unlatches one-handed, how it slides smoothly, everything about it except the durability when unlatched.

Great Gate for the price. Unite has good build quality and gives us peace of mind, helping to keep our two large dogs away from the door. The locking mechanism is easy to use and sturdy. As long as you have the gate lined up properly the door can swing open normally with ease. Recommend using a level and a line marker when installing to ensure everything is level and use the wall anchors! If you do that everything should fit properly and the door will phase ease of movement.

This is the best gate for the top of the stairs. I looked into dozens of options and ended up getting this because it has a few features that are very important for us. I highly recommend getting this one. - This walk thru gate opens completely. You don't need to step over a bar at the top of the stairs so it isn't a tripping hazard. Huge feature. And it's still a one-hand open gate. - It has an excellent door stopper feature that prevents it from moving the opposite way (over the stairs). It's completely reliable and sturdy. We have a 100 lb lab that isn't able to push it open. It even works when not latched (see pics). Very secure. - The hook latch fully latches. It's extremely sturdy and secure. - Installation was straightforward and simple. We used some of our own heavy duty wall anchors instead of the basic plastic ones included in the kit. Super easy fix since we couldn't attach to the studs. - The gate gets a ton of use every day and has held up wonderfully over the past 3 months. We haven't had to tighten or adjust anything since installation.

I love this gate! I doubt it is perfect, but I rated it 5 stars because it is the best I have seen out there for what I'm looking for. We have 4 different gates, and this one is great. We initially got it for the top of our stairs to keep our baby safe, and we also have a dog and cats. Originally, we had a metal pet gate with a cat door at the top of the stairs, but this is so much better! And this gate works great for all of us. It is wall-mounted, which is recommended for top of the stairs (safe for children). It is also a swing gate, so there is nothing to step over or risk tripping on (great for us people). Furthermore, it swings all the way open (so we can leave it open when we don't need or want the gate up). Additionally, you can mount at at your preferred height, so it works with different floor trims and you can make sure it is the right size to let small things under (cats or small dogs) while keeping the child out. We also use this gate to keep our dog out of certain areas, so it is a great dog gate too (no damages so far, but I doubt he's tried). As a bonus, it is attractive. We liked it so much that we got a second gate for the bottom of the stairs, mainly to keep our now toddler from bolting upstairs whenever she wants to (every day) but also for the dog.

Likes: -Product has quality style wood and durable. -Comes with a downloadable video to help with install. -I purchased this gate with the Summer Infant Banister to Banister Universal Gate Mounting Kit. This is one of the few products that could work with banisters. Dislikes: -The wall that this gate was being installed onto has a baseboard that protrudes out approximately .75 inches from the wall (somewhat standard). Unfortunately, the gate nor the mounting kit comes with any spacers. It took some doctoring of going to the hardware store, getting a piece of 2.5 x 1 inch furring strip (wood) to mount onto the top part of the wall. This would account for the baseboard protrusion. -I called customer service to see if they could send me a few plastic spacers, but they don't have anything like that. -For the extra time and energy to make this work, it became a more difficult product to install. Between finding different screws, cutting the furring strip down to size, painting it to match the wall color, etc. Needless to say, this is a great product, but if you are going to install into baseboard expect to GO OFF SCRIPT!

I have been searching for a baby gate for a simple but specific purpose - keep one 15 lb cat downstairs (where the master bedroom is) while allowing my grandson (who lives with me) easy access to go up and down the stairs to/from his bedroom, bathroom and loft. I tried (aka wasted money on) two other baby gates that were either impossible to install at the bottom of the stairs or so much trouble to go in and out of that it was painful for my grandson. This one worked. It was easy to install at the bottom of my stairs. It is easy for my grandson to go in and out. It is sturdy. It is attractive. The bars are spaced in a manner so the cat (11 years old and a bit chubby) can't wiggle through. Important note: a younger, more slender cat might be able to jump the gate due to its height, but my cat isn't that ambitious. My stress level has gone down as I now don't have to deal with the cat clawing at the carpet on the stairs or wonder where she has disappeared to as she can't go upstairs. And, I didn't have to remove the carpet on the stairs and replace with vinyl, which I was afraid would have to be my next step. Gate is working. Yay! My blood pressure thanks you for the stress reduction.

Excellent product. Well made with solid structure. Finishing and function are great. Looks great as well.

Me encantó! Probe varias rejas, pero ninguna se ajustaba a mis necesidades. Esta está excelente porque no solo es corrediza, si no que también se abre toda la reja hacia delante o atrás, lo cual es muy util en espacios pequeños. Otro beneficio es que no tiene una barra abajo, toda la puerta se abre y evita tropezones al bajar o subir la escalera. Finalmente el acabado de madera es muy bonito y se ve mejor que las rejas tradicionales. Definitivamente lo recomiendo.

Depending on your experience, it may be a little bit difficult to install and you may need help (but really, anyone can do it), but other than that it serves its purpose well and it is strong, resistant, and it looks good. Pretty satisfied.
