The colors are BEAUTIFUL
These Artisto 72 count pencils are NOT soft; they were not intended to be. They are on the hard side, so you will be able to color tiny areas with precision, and you won't have to sharpen them every 5 minutes. The bonus is that the color is so rich and vibrant (on the ones that should be rich and vibrant, because not all colors should be) that it a soft stroke leaves behind gorgeous pigment. There are also some pale colors not usually found in anything but a huge set, so you get more than you might think. Yes, there are a lot of gray and grayish pencils, from dark to pale. But this is good, because it practically doubles the colors you get in the set. They blend well, layer beautifully, and the colors you get and can make through blending are just gorgeous. These will work on toothy paper, though I don't like toothy paper because you have to layer so much more or press hard, which you can do with these pencils, although they are hard enough to leave an indentation, so don't press too hard. If you press hard when you color, you might want to learn not to, so you don't leave indentations. These Artisto pencils also burnish well. No wax bloom, which is surprising and pleasant. I didn't realize when I got these that I would be so pleased with them! I will order a backup set as soon as possible. Two cons: 1) the printing of the color number on the pencil is TINY and barely readable. 2) The swatch sheet provided has even tinier printing and the color name is only on that swatch sheet, not on the pencils. I am making visible labels for the very end of the pencils, taped on, so I can see what I've got, and will also make my own swatch sheet. Not enough reason to not love these pencils.

A good middle of the road pencil set. Great for beginners and intermediates.
A nice pencil for the price. They lay down a good amount of pigment with light pressure, and are durable enough to take a little heavy pressure without breaking.

Great Quality for the Price!
Iโm impressed. I am by no means an artist, but I did a lot of research, Amazon/Reddit review reading, and YouTube reviews of several brands of cheap colored pencils. Ultimately, I chose these ones based off of the color options, the price, and how highly ranked they seems to be among those who have used several brands. I like these a lot. They seem sturdy but fairly smooth and deep/pigmented in color. I will say that the grip doesnโt feel amazing the multiple edges. I would prefer a round or tri-sided pencil. One strange I ran into while doing the swatches was that sky blue had the wrong name printed on it. Thankfully, itโs obvious what color it is, so itโs not a massive deal. All in all, Iโd say you get your monies worth! Great value!

Would be my favorite pencils to color with if this was a 120 set
Review for using these to color (photo examples are pencils colored over a watercolor base): Pros - One of the best pencils to use in terms of color payout with light/medium pressure. Great to use for shading over marker, watercolor, etc. or on their own. I actually have fun coloring with these pencils. They did well on premium, smooth cardstock and rough, textured Amazon-printed paper. - Strong lead, does not leave dust/crumbs on paper except with heavy pressure. They will likely last a long time coloring. - Great price for such a good pencils. Cons - Palette missing a lot of lights/darks to create 3+ combos for shading or to shade with darker colors. Mostly mid-tones with some colors very close together. - 72 set creates palette challenges as noted above. A 120 set of these with a revised palette would elevate these to my favorite colored pencils to use across a wide variety of paper types. Final thoughts - these pleasantly surprised me. Probably the most fun I've had coloring with colored pencils. They did great on vastly different paper types, so I appreciate their versatility. They feel very similar to Arrtx, but lay down even better in my opinon. That color palette makes me want to tear my hair out though. It is hard to find the color I need, especially if it's a light or dark tone. If you like mixing colors to make others, or if you like shading with grays, this is probably a good choice. But I just want more colors so I can build 2 and 3+ color combos for shading.

Fantastic!
I had heard these were good pencils so I expected a lot. I was shocked! They are soft! And itโs very heavy pigment. I can burnish with one a light pressure, on heavy textured paper with1 time coloring. The colors also pleased me. With only 72 colors, I expected a very basic set, with no tones or shadings. There is a nice range of all colors except pink. I donโt use pinks s lot so I donโt care. A few colors here remind me of Polys. The grays are fantastic. There are 11 different grays. The reds are vibrant. Great peachy selection. Mblues are more limited than I would have expected but the grays make up for it. I have 100โs of different blues but usually stick with the same pencils anyway. My only change would to reduce the number of red-browns, there are 5. I hate red browns. They need to change at least 2 of these to cool browns. They do crumble a little but not a lot like a Prismas. I do recommend these as a substitute for Prismas.! The blending is easy. I put 2 weird colors together and it looks amazing. See pics. The only thing I ask of the manufacturer besides the cool browns, is to create a MUCH larger set and make them round! Theyโre 6 sided, I prefer round. Enjoy!

Better than prisms?
A friend let me try their prisms color pencils one time and I was hooked.... But I just couldn't afford them sooo I took to youtube to find something similar but more in my price range. I stumbled on a video where the lady tests out about 40 cheaper options and this brand won out. I searched them on Amazon and they were on sale that day so I ordered. WOW these pencils are an absolute steal for the price point and how many you receive. They blend so beautifully and once I got my hands on prisma colored pencils again I actually preferred these! Definitely try these out if you're needing quality coloring supplies!

2 broken lead.. lay down is smooth and vibrant.
Received the goods with 2 broken leads but itโs alright. The lay down of the colouring is good and smooth. Able to blend smoothly. Havenโt tried sharpening yet. Would love it if artisto is able to provide more colour options.

Great pencils.
Definitely better than the average "less expensive" pencils. They have a nice feel, good color payout and provide a very well balanced color choice for a 72 set. They're very smooth but a bit harder than Prismacolor, not quite as creamy with a little more dust. They sharpened well and hold a nice point. I only wish they came in a larger set. I would recommend them.

Beautiful
Very pleased. I was quite surprised by these pencils. Budget priced but could easily play in the big league with the big boys. There is no lightfast ratings but as a hobby colourist they are creamy with a good selection of colour and highly pigmented. A steal of a deal for the money. I hope they come out with more colours - I will be their first customer!

My new favourite
I find myself reaching for these more than my Prismacolor. Because of the price I donโt feel like I have to be so precious about using them. Will definitely buy again.

Not a top-quality product
Colour delivery on paper is smooth and creamy. The bright colours are fairly vibrant, some lighter colours are quite "dim" on paper, and some are quite similar to each other, such as a few reds. The colour chart is not in any order of colour or number, so kinda useless other than to sample colours. There were 3 pencils with broken leads, but that can happen easily during shipping. No leads broke while I was using any of them and I pressed hard. The Sky Blue pencil was mislabeled as Castleton Green, although the number was correct; apparently this is not a one-time misprint as others have mentioned it in their reviews. And although the pencil was painted gold, Moosewood is more like a poopy brown; not a gold colour. ๐ If you are a professional, these are not for you. They are more suitable to dabblers (like myself), beginners, students or kids. They would be a great inexpensive set to experiment with before moving on to a more expensive/professional set.
