yes it is programmable using Arduino, samples code is available, follow the instruction inside the package.

If i attach an hc-05 bluetooth module, will it work? if not, what module do you suggest?

Attaching the HC-05 Bluetooth module will still work. The kit already comes with an HM-10 Bluetooth module, if you want to replace it make sure the connections are the same for the Tx and Rx pins on the Arduino board, else change it from the software. The only difference is you will have to pair to the HC-05 module from your device.
