Park Tool SPA-1 Hanger Cup Pin Spanner (Green)

If you work on a lot of conventional bottom brackets, the Park Tool SPA-1 and SPA-2 are both a must. Between the 2 tools you'll be able to adjust most older bottom brackets from Campagnolo, Shimano, Suntour, Sugino, etc. Inexpensive, does it all tool. Excellent Park Quality.

I've been looking for the tool to adjust my glass shower door roller. I was told it needs the proprietary tool from the manufacture, but the door was installed by the previous owner so I have no clue. Did lots of research online and finally came to product. It worked great and saved my life! The key thing is that the diameter of the pin is about 3mm, which fits really well with the roller I have. YMMV.

This was the perfect tool to adjust cams on a 100 lb shower door. Park manufactured the tool with such precision that it locked into place and stayed put (right side of photo) after easy insertion into pilot holes of the adjustment cams. There was no flex when the SP-1 torqued down to lock the cams, and it appeared capable of handling several times the force applied. Nice to see this level of build quality.

Recently started working on bikes for a group and discovered I no longer had one, this is one of those tools you used to need regularly and haven't had much use for in the last 20 years but when you need it nothing will work better. For the 10.00 bucks it costs better to have it and never need it then waste the time trying to do without the one time it will come in handy. Although a really simple tool it is really well thought out, I've almost never had to remove a crank arm to use it to adjust a BB (can't actually remember I time when I did but I'm sure it happened a couple times). The tool just levers in between the crank arm and the BB when you line the pins up with the holes and the crank arm then helps to keep it from popping out as you adjust the lock ring. My last one was lost after years of use and while I have seen them worn out from use it takes hundreds of adjustments to do so, more then most people will do in this day and age.

Felt custom made for the BB i was removing. The BB was an old Shimano, so the tool may have been aimed primarily at this style. I just wanted to express appreciation for the relatively reasonable cost of what must be an extremely specialized tool at this point. This is a brand new tool that AFAIK is only relevant for very old bicycles. I do feel like Park tools all cost a little more than I really want to pay, but in this case I'm glad it wasn't more. There can't be many people buying new tools for 1980's bottom brackets in 2015; I think that must show some kind of broad support base for bike wrenchers...
