Difficult, but WONDERFUL!
The bi-fold doors on my wife's closet had never closed correctly in 16 years. The hardware used was the normal, cheap hardware you find on most bi-fold doors & getting them adjusted properly was nearly impossible. I decided there must be a better way to hang the doors. Then I found the parts from L.E. Johnson. Installing this new system was complicated by me having to remove the cheap hardware from the doors in order to use the new parts. I had to repair some areas where holes were left & damage was done by the old parts. Also, your bi-fold doors MUST be 2 7/8" shorter than your door frame opening. I had to cut off 7/8" from the bottom of all 4 of the doors. Having hollow core doors required me to check Google for the proper method to do so. I don't have a power saw, so I cut my doors with a hand saw (it can be done). Installing these parts on new bi-fold doors would be much easier than replacing the previous hanging system. After the old hardware was removed & the doors cut down to size the installation of the new parts could begin. I agree with others that the instructions weren't written for regular people (seem to be for general contractors), but if you're careful & measure correctly, you will be able to install these parts. When you finish, you will have the absolute best operating bi-fold doors you've ever used. They glide effortlessly & hang straight. Adjustments are precise & reasonably easy. As my picture shows my doors now close perfectly. After 16 years of never being able to close the doors properly I now have perfectly functioning & great looking closet doors. My wife is thrilled with her "new" doors. I highly recommend this bi-fold door hanging system. I love my easy closing doors!

Great Hardware for Heavy Bi-Fold Door
Fact โ Bi-fold doors take patience to install. I have found that the Johnson track system has given me the best and easiest to install hardware for heavy solid 6 panel oak bi-fold doors. While Iโve noticed some people complain about the instructions, if you look at the diagram, all the necessary dimensions are provided, just not a lot of meat in the step-by-step that some people would like to see. Do you need to cut your doors, possibly, but again look at the diagram and youโll see how long your doors need to be to accommodate your opening along with the Johnson hardware. Iโve had to cut my doors once, the second time, I did not. Just take a breath and allocate 2 or 3 hours and youโll get through the installation. Just a couple things to add: 1. Measure the height of your opening in 3-4 places. Subtract around 3" (2 7/8" per instructions) and that's the length of your door. You may have to cut the doors on an angle if your existing floor or top jam is out of plumb. You can also shim at the top track or bottom pivot if your door is too short. 2. Mount the hardware to the bi-folds. Measurements are on the first page for all 3 pieces. 3. Locate the center of your jam and mount the top rail. You have to pre-load the center bumper, wheel, and top pivot before securing the rail to the top jam. 4. Locate the bottom pivot, pre-drill and mount the pivot. Remove it before hanging doors. Pre-mounting the bottom pivot will make it easier after you hang the door as its hard to get to the mounting screws once the door is hung. 5. Hang the door onto the top pivot and then the wheel. Lock both before proceeding. You'll want to have a heavy piece of cardboard handy to rest the bottom pivot. This will help you avoid scratching a finished floor. 6. Slide the bottom pin into the bottom pivot, move into position, and secure to floor. You'll have to tilt the assembly to get the pivot onto the pin. 7. Adjust door. You can adjust the bottom pivot, top pivot, and the nut on the tricycle wheel. If you don't get the proper clearance to the jam or between matching doors, you may have to either shim or relocate the bottom pivot. This is where the 2-3 hours come into play. Note that these instructions work for the heavy duty Johnson hardware. I have not tried mounting the lighter variations of their hardware. Photo is of bi-fold doors that I had to cut both at the top and bottom for a custom height and out of plumb floor. 2-3 hours on this one did not apply.... Hope this helps.

Well worth the expense and time to install.
You can have faith that it holds very heavy doors. Its a quality piece of manufacruring. Some people complained about the directions. Dont worry, they're not that bad. If youre doing this solo and doing a pair of bifolds (4 doors). Be prepared. It took me 4 hours. Each panel went up seperately. Trying to hang solid doors vs. cheapie hollow core is much more difficult. Well worth the price and time. It works very well.

The best.
If you want the finest, top-of-the-line closet hardware, this is the kit for you. Miles ahead of anything else. I used this kit for my bifold closet doors in our bathroom remodel as well as the LE Johnson brand pocket door kit for 2 doors in the house. This is the good stuff. Call me old fashioned but I love the feel of something that was thoughtfully designed and made correctly with quality parts and material and not just built-to-a-price-point-instant-garbage injection molded by kids in an offshore factory. The drawback is that it is not a plug & play installation. If you don't know how to use a tape measure accurately and have little carpentry experience, this will not go easy for you. This is a heavy-duty kit for, thick, heavy-duty doors. I used it to install the cheap, thin HD louvered doors so I had to get a little creative with them because the part that mounts to the top of the door is wider than the door itself. When all is said and done they work beautifully but this is overkill for normal doors... As I said though, I like the feel of quality - especially in a closet I use every day. Plus it's heavy-duty ball-bearing slides are nearly silent - which is very thoughtful and makes you a hero if you're opening and closing your doors in a room with a sleeping girlfriend 3 feet away.

this was definitely the best performance for the cost
Johnson hardware is very high quality, made in USA components. After looking at many folding door options, this was definitely the best performance for the cost. Higher end industrial hardware was super expensive, and I didn't need that much weight anyway. For my application, with bifolding screen doors on my patio, this was perfect. Installation is not too bad. The hardest part was the bottom pivot, if you are installing onto a slab. You'll need to buy some masonry bolts and have a hammer drill and masonry bit. I used the smallest tapcons, but in hindsight, wish I would have used the bigger size and just drilled out the pivot hardware piece to accept them. I snapped a couple of the small tapcons and drilling those little holes was difficult. I asked them about splicing tracks and they told me it wasn't recommended, but I spliced them anyway and it has worked fine. I also asked them about outdoor applications, and they said their hardware was not corrosion resistant, so I sprayed it all with Corrosion X HD and it had held up great. I used different hinges, as I didn't like the look of these. I also purchased an Extra roller Johnson Sliding Door/Pocket Door Hanger Ball Bearing since I had an extra set of doors on one side of my project.

High Quality, Heavy-Duty Set!
I recently purchased this set for a 4ft, four-door (12" x 4) bi-fold closet door to replace an older Johnson set that had been used for ~18 years. The older set, purchased by the previous owners, was seemingly lower-quality with some plastic parts, etc that had worn out. Before receiving and installing the product I was a bit sticker shocked to pay so much just for closet door hardware however, after installing I think it was totally worth it. Doors look and function great! I anticipate this set lasting even longer than the first! A couple thoughts if considering purchasing to replace existing hardware and doing it yourself: - Be prepared to cut off your closet doors as it is highly unlikely that this set and your current set will match in terms of size of hardware and total height of doors when installed. - I consider myself to have above-average 'handy-man' skills. I could see this being overwhelming for someone with little to no experience doing this kind of stuff. This isn't a downside of the product just the job itself. - Be patient and thorough.

Sturdy and smooth operation.
Much sturdier than the hardware I've used for lightweight bifold doors. Supports my solid 1 3/8" oak doors well and operates smoothly. Takes a fair amount of calculating against the drawings in the instructions to get the door panels sized correctly prior to installing. Measure twice, or more! Note that you have to install, remove and reinstall the bottom brackets when installing the doors. This is not the case with the lighter hardware, where the lower brackets flex to accept the lower door pivot pin.

Worked great
Used for a homemade cabin barn door lookalike closet door and is very durable for holding heavy materials.
