I want to use this to paint and base miniatures, how sturdy are the arms and clips?

Hows the quality with this one? i bought one from se, the left side was broken right out the box. the right side only lasted about a month.

Quality? Oh, about average. So far, so good, though. The only flaw I found was in one of the alligator clips. Typical Radio Shack style. One was a bit crimped in the clamp. No problem straightening it out, however. Easily replaceable, anyway. The base has a nice weight to it. And little rubber feet. It has been valuable for gluing small parts together.

Can this be mounted to a desk or table?

This unit just comes with a weighted base. There is no clamp or other way included to mount it to a table or desk.
