Good For Sealing Flanges
I searched for a long time before deciding on this product to provide an extra seal to my exhausts catalytic converter flange. The flange in front of the cat was leaking, and so I r&r'd the old bolts, and then I wire wheeled the mating surfaces. Despite this, there was still a decent bit of pitting, and this 'sealant' worked well to fill in any imperfections that were present. I did this roughly 6 months ago, and daily drive the vehicle - no leaks from the area that was patched. I even reused the old 'donut' gasket since I didn't want to spend any extra money or time on this repair. I would recommend this to anyone who is working on an older vehicle with a rusty exhaust, or to anyone who wants to exercise an abundance of caution when trying to prevent any exhaust leaks following a repair.

Stuff works great!
Great stuff to use when sealing up an assembled exhaust kit for my f150. Easy to apply. Been on for 6 months with no leaks.

Has a limited shelf life but works well
The product itself is awesome. Seems anything I buy from Permatex does what it is supposed to do. For this particular "repair" I was a bit unsure as to which Permatex product to purchase. My motorcycle exhaust has a connection where the header pipe and tailpipe meet. An aftermarket "Jardine" exhaust and oddly quite a large gap at the connection whereas the bracket is supposed to crimp and does not do a very good job at sealing it. This may be how it was designed but for me an exhaust leak in your plan is not a good plan. Bottom line i wanted to seal this joint but wanted the option to take it apart to install new header gaskets down the line. Reaching out to Permatex they actually recommended a different product that was twice the cost of this with half the temp limit. I am happy I chose this as it sealed the joint and I was able to disconnect the pipes and install the gaskets. I am now looking to try a "lap joint" bracket as I would prefer a more permanent solution. I feel anything with the Permatex name is a good product but has limited shelf life and will eventually break down. The trouble is they make so many similar products it is hard to choose the correct one. In my opinion there is not one single best application for a particular project. Doing some research prior to buying is always recommended.

Muffler sealant
Works good on seams that leak on a muffler. Used all of it. Not expected to be permanent but, works as a great improvement for muffler leaks. Less expensive than replacing a muffler.

Works short term
This is decent for a temporary patch. Please don't expect this to hold up long term but for short term repairs this does the job. Over time it crumbles away.

Easy to apply and dries/cures hard and adheres!
Solid stuff that seals/dries hard and stays in place. Good for a bandaid fix and/or for ensuring tight leak free connection on a band clamp.

Red stuff is Sticky ! Gray, not so sticky. Both work well.
Whatever you do, don't get it on your skin. (The red stuff that is) I had to use mineral spirits to get it off (which I'm sure is a cancer risk in California. It's a good thing I don't live in California) Use a double layer of disposable gloves. Also, if you can't attach the flanges due to rusted bolt filled holes, go to harbor freight and buy the cheap mini vise grips, 1 for each side of the flanges. Lock 'em super tight and secure the handles with zip ties. (Our exhaust issue was that the muffler separated from the main pipe at the attachment flanges. UPDATE: I'm not positive that I reviewed the correct item. All I know is that it was red like the picture and really thick and sticky. A few weeks after this repair I sealed the top rear seam with a piece of a pop can, some steel window screen and the GRAY colored stuff, which comes off much more easily with soap and water. Sorry for the confusion.

Calidad mala

Waste of money
I recently purchased a product for my exhaust system, as there was some leakage around the joint. Despite following the instructions carefully, the paste came out within an hour of application. Additionally, after just two days, there's no sign of the product I previously applied. Based on my experience, I strongly advise "don't buy it"

I used this stuff the repair the EGR pipe on my 1993 Ford Taurus, and it worked great! Have been driving it for a while and still no signs of leaking.
