Can this tripod hold an iphone vertically as well as horizontally?

Somewhat. You would put it into the spring loaded phone holder horizontally, then loosen the part with the ball so you could rotate the phone down to vertical. I just tried this. The problem was that rotating to vertical as much as I could, it was not straight up and down and needed to go 2 degrees or so more to be straight. I suppose you could prop a leg a little to make it straight. Seems that would be pretty annoying.

Up to your webcam if the base is movable to ensure that it can be put into the phone clip. Btw, the phone clip is compatible the devices with the width from 2.4” to 3.5”.
