How long will a 14 ounce package last a 10 pound adult cat? I find the feeding guidelines confusing and want to figure out the per day cost. Thanks!

The packaging indicates there are 8 servings per bag for an 11 lb. cat or 9 servings per bag for an 8.8 lb. cat.  However, that would suggest they believe this should not be the cat's sole food source. Printing on the bag indicates:  1)  there are 400 grams in the bag, and 2) 479 kcal per 100 gram.  So 479 x 4 (or 4.79 cal/g x 400g) = 1916 calories in the bag.  A cat needs approx. 30 calories per lb. to sustain its weight, so a 10 lb. cat needs 300 calories.  Therefore 1916/300 = 6.39 days worth of calories to sustain a 10 lb. cat if it eats nothing else.

Can this be crumbled up? My older cat recently had to have some teeth pulled.

It would be difficult to crumble, since the “cuisine” is quite hard.  I have experimented a lot with this cuisine.  My kitty is 15 #.  I take some high quality canned food (pate’) and mash it in her bowl with a fork.  I then add water to it.  I take the scoop that is provided in each bag of cuisine, and fill the scoop to about the 1/4 level mark with dry cuisine.  I mix the canned pate’, water and dry cuisine together until the mixture is a little watery.  I then microwave it until it is barely warm.  The dry cuisine will soften the longer it sits. You will need to adjust the amounts of canned pate’, water and dry cuisine according to the size of your cat, and how fast he/she eats, since a bowl should not sit out for too long.  My cat will not drink water, so this mixture also assures that she gets her necessary daily water intake.  My cat also suffers from Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Pancreatitis, and allergies - and this food mixture has helped her a lot.  I feed her 4 times a day.

I know you don't have to rehydrate this, but can you?  If so, does it take long?

YOU CANNOT HEAT COMMERCIAL CAT FOOD BEYOND LUKE WARM EVER. it kills the vitamins that are added to the food and makes it an incomplete source of food for your cat.  someone mentioned simmering the cat food and then putting it through a food processor... please don't do that.
