WE Games Shut-the-Box Board Game in Wooden Box with Dice

I’ve spent hours playing this. All my friends love it. You can use it as a gambling game or play just for fun. The only downside is the dice that come with it. They’re light. So you might want to invest in a higher quality dice. Other than that, it’s great.

Really enjoyed the game Family seems to enjoy it very much so. But …..the latch on the outside broke the very first time we opened it up. That kind of sucks cause it’s such a nice case.

I first saw this game in another company's catalog and thought it would make a good Christmas gift for a friend from England since it is described as a popular pub game. When I further researched it, I found people often mentioned it was a great game because it is quick and fun to play and is a clever way to encourage practicing addition facts for children. This version had good reviews, so I bought it now to help my grandchild with her math. Great decision! She and her mother have played a lot and she never, ever feels like she is doing "school work." This version is a very nice quality wood with all parts working well--an issue with other brands according to their reviews. My only complaint is the rules do not list various versions, but they can be found on-line. I highly recommend this game and this seller, who had prompt, careful shipping. Oh, btw, I am getting another one for my English friend!

I wanted to love this box, but I can't. It's not bad, but it's not exactly right, either. I've been playing shut box for decades but never actually owned one. On a whim, I took a chance on buying this one. The box is good, the hinges and latch are neat, the felt is adequate, and the numbers are fine... BUT the numbers need better spacers. They shuffle around with at least a 3/4" gap if you push them all to one side on the flip rod. NBD, but it adds to the overall craftsmanship. Giving it a polish with some oil soap brings it to life, too. Made in China.

Our game is beautiful! Everything is constructed squarely and well, with hinges that work smoothly and a latch that keeps the lid snugly in place when closed. The lining on the dice-throwing area looks great, too, as does the fabric beneath the base that prevents the scratching of fine furniture. And the movement of all the numbered pieces--and the way that all of the edges meet up in both the open and closed positions--is dead on. If treated respectfully, this game should stay beautiful and last for generations; but I can imagine that young children left on their own could damage it easily by forcing the lid past the 90 degree "open" point or by twisting it, so keep that in mind. With the 12 number game, you can play using standard addition rules, or you can allow multiplication of the dice, too! So a 4 and a 5 on the dice could be 9 or could be 20--your choice. That makes it more fun for adults, and it adds to the educational value for kids. And since there are numbers visible in both the up and down positions, it helps in keeping up with your math--plus allows two players to play the long game (where one player tries to get all of their numbers down as the other player tries to get them all up--taking turns until all the numbers are either up or down). This game is attractive enough to keep out full time--which I plan to do. It's a simple and elegant design. But a craftsperson or artist might consider decorating it, too. Even if you buy the game as a crafts project, it's a great value.

This is a great game for everyone over the age of 5 or 6. It can be played alone or with a group. This is the 3rd one we have ordered. The hardware on the first one broke, so we ordered a new one. The second one was surprisingly much thinner than the first - about half the depth. We liked the original one better because it did a better job of keeping the dice in the box. Then, we ordered one for a friend who was incapacitated with a broken leg and the original size arrived! Although the smaller version would have been easier for her to hold on her lap in her wheelchair, she still liked it. We're going to order a new one for ourselves and hope the original, larger size arrives.

Great quality game, entertaining and challenging dice game that is perfect addition for a home bar.

Good implementation of an old game. Nicely made with felt on the bottom as well as inside.the base. The "hatches" have numbers on both sides and it comes complete with dice and instructions. Simple to play but fun. Also good to help kids practise their maths.

Really well made, absolutely loved this,well worth it.
