Tipton ultra gun vise
I’ve been using the Tipton Ultra Gun Vise for cleaning, scope mounting, and general firearm maintenance, and overall it’s a very useful workstation if you understand what it’s designed for. First, the big strength is versatility. The adjustable frame and modular layout make it easy to fit different firearms, from AR-style rifles to bolt guns and even pistols. The non-marring contact points are a huge plus—I’ve had zero concerns about scratches or finish damage on wood, polymer, or anodized parts. The removable trays are also more useful than I expected; they actually keep small screws, tools, and parts organized instead of scattered across the bench. Setup is straightforward, and once it’s dialed in, it holds a firearm securely for cleaning, optics mounting, and light maintenance. The adjustable feet help stabilize it on uneven surfaces, which is great if you’re moving between a garage bench and a portable setup. That said, it’s important to set expectations. This is not a heavy-duty gunsmithing vise. If you’re trying to torque barrels, apply high force, or do serious armorer-level work, you’ll quickly notice its limitations. Some of the adjustments rely on plastic components and friction locks, so it can flex slightly under pressure if you really lean into it. In short: * Excellent for cleaning, scope mounting, and general maintenance * Very good firearm protection and flexibility * Not ideal for high-torque or professional gunsmith work For the average shooter or hobbyist, it’s a very convenient and space-saving tool that makes bench work much easier. Just match it to the right expectations and it performs well. Would I recommend it? Yes—for cleaning and maintenance setups, absolutely. For full gunsmithing, I’d pair it with a traditional heavy bench vise instead.

fairly heavy duty, holds the rifle secure while working in it, go value for the cost
It's plastic, but is heavy duty. will not hold a rifle with a magazine inserted, but secures the gun firmly while working on it The price was right, It was a good value and suits my needs. I'm satisfied

in this day and age of cheap garbage from overseas
I saw this vise on a video from the 2017 Shot Show. It is everything it is advertised to be and a little bit more. I have been a shooting enthusiast for too many decades to mention here. I have seldom seen such a well thought out and crafted product; particularly, in this day and age of cheap garbage from overseas. Everything is beefy about the build, the knobs the vertical vices which articulate to meet up with any shape you insert. I have built many AR-15s and wish I had had this vice then. The center post which will allow the magazine well to insert allows a firm setup in any configuration (complete rifle, upper receiver unhinged etc). Two added bonus features are on this block. An flip up block that is a hammer block that allows dry firing of the weapon without damage. On the left side of the block, once the block is rotated to the horizontal position is a holder for the AR bolt which is very handy if you need to drive roll pins in or out. Another nice feature is the leveling pads which allow you to get the vice perfectly level which aids in leveling the cross hairs of a scope that you may be attaching to a rifle. BTW this is the only item on Amazon I have ever rated five stars. Like our military I don't hand them out willy nilly. Hope this review helps.

Tipton finally got this one right!!
I've had the Tipon "Best" Gun Vise for years - and it stunk. The cam clamps to hold the stocks were lousy at best; the height adjustment was clumsy and the plastic was crazy cheap feeling. This has the stability, flexibility, versatility and clamping strength that you've always wanted from a table vise. It feels like its a fiberglass composite material - very rigid. The oversized red knobs for tightening are very ergo friendly and comfortable. Some reviews talked about how the vertical adjustments wouldn't "stay" and they kept slipping back down - which I did encounter as well. Stumbled onto a YouTube video of a guy explaining you have to sand down the side walls of the vertical support because they're toe-nailed a bit - and once you sand them down to make them flatter, theres much more bearing surface for the pad to grip to hold the vertical support in place - and it really does!! I even used 60grit sand paper to keep it course to assist with the grip. Been very pleased with my hand-sanding mod. (Be sure to have a sanding block behind your paper to ensure you're sanding it perfectly FLAT!) Have got quite a few Tipton products around my bench - and I've loved all of them and have given me years of quality use. Except their "Best" Vise. This Ultra vise deserves its name - I can finally LOVE my vise.

Currently the only solution that makes sence
After researching every option on the web for a halfway decent gun vice for cleaning and light gunsmithing I pulled the trigger on the Tipton Ultra Vise. When looking at the pictures, its probably the most gaudy thing out there. But, after unboxing it really makes sense, but still ugly. The Vise was shipped in its retail box, so if some of you get a damaged one, you will know why. Mine arrived in great shape with just a little shipping scrapes and bumps from passing through the shipping gauntlet, but not damaged at all. There's nothing really to assemble as everything is clamp on or drop in. The Vise comes with everything assembled on the bottom for easy shipping, its just a matter of loosing clamps and moving sections to the top of the unit. The main chassis is tubular steel and very strong. The Vise sections are made of what looks like a heavy nylon with metal reinforcements to prevent clamp spread. The AR MAG well base support is Nylon but the MAG vise block itself is standard poly and so are the parts pans. For what I bought it for, cleaning, scope mounting, ect, its perfect. For what certain people think they can use it for, its not. For Gods sake its not metal, don't you people read? Its not a led sled for sighting in your weapons. Its not an AR armorers vise for changing out barrels. Its not to be used were a large amount of torque or force will be generated. Driving out pins shouldn't be an issue as long as you don't use a sledge hammer. Now to the nighty gritty. I gave it a 4 star because the AR vise block and hammer stop are not nylon like the other more abused parts. Doesn't make sense why they didn't, I guess they wanted to create a week point for those dummies that would actually try to use it as a AR armorers vise. But still, totally should have been nylon. Also, since this is not an armorers vice, for Gods sake why not add some cushioning to the clamps and vice necks. The addition of 1/2 inch neoprene or some other visco-elastic polymer to the clamp surfaces to allow for the clamping faces to have some contouring and better protection and grip, would have been nice. The clamp faces are hard and on angled surface, clamping pressure is applied directly to the angle instead of gently contouring to the surface. Also the AR vise bock is not height adjustable, come on, we have a friggen knob for everything but that. Instead they decided to make it so you can change the angle. So, why not have custom Pistol Mag well vise blocks? That would be better than having your pistol swallowed by the large clamp pads. How about swivel base? Sometimes are wonder what these manufactures are thinking when the produce a product to meet a price point instead of functionality. OK, all that stuff would be nice and trust me that's some major nitpicking on my part. Could it be aproved on, well yes. Is there anything better out currently at the time of this writing? Not that I found. So untill someone comes out with Ronco Vegamatic Ultra Big Bad Ass Armores Vise that someone acutualy thought out, instead of trying to fit it in a price point, I'll use this. At $99.99 price point, its a great deal and you cant go wrong if you use it as intened.

Excellent for mounting scopes

Very sturdy and securely holds all types of hunting gear.
I like the light sturdy polymer reinforced with metal frame and inserts. Add gun oil to all threads and is easily adjustable and maintains grip on all types of guns and bows. I own another older version, and my son "borrowed" it for his hunting equipment. May be a little stiff when new but never failed to do its job and definitely worth the investment.

Essential item cleaning firearms
First, this gun vise is better than I expected. It’s heavy and feels sturdy. Just as an example I remounted about optic on a Barrett M82a1 so the brackets were sturdy and robust enough to hold the 15 lb upper of the Barrett still while I messed with the optic on the rail. Besides the m82, I’ve used it for cleaning misc rifles AND pistols, mounting optics, built an AR and installing a chassis system on a M14. Please note that for building a lower and upper for an AR, a Normal bench vise is a better tool but this too can get help with all but torquing down the barrel nut. The leveling adjustment on each corner is a nice feature and can take a while to get setup perfectly depending on how level your table/surface is but once it’s done it hold level very well. The thing that I really like is the storage trays for putting in nuts and bolts and roll pins and springs and all that stuff that likes to fly across the room or disappear in the carpet when you drop them. It’s a small thing but to me it makes a big difference. You can maneuver the trays to the position that best fits you. The storage helps me organize my work space without having all sorts of other boxes and bins cluttering my work area. I’ve convinced myself that I didn’t need a device like this for a decade then finally decided to get one. Now that I have it I can honestly say that I should have purchased something like this years ago. It would have saved me a lot of stress. If you’ve ever been that guy on all fours looking for a roll pin that fell of your kitchen table or scratched a nicely blues rifle because you’re sure you can hold it while cleaning the bore you should pull the trigger on one of these. It makes things way simpler.
