This is a great album.
Great Music, Wrong Generation. Got this for my nephew but parents objected as too grunge so returned. However this is an excellent collection of Clampton for guitar lovers. So much today is processed music. There was a time when artists created and true talent survived. There are no bands only single fishtanks.

music from the 60s and 70s
since the 1960s I have been a huge fan of Eric Clapton. I saw him in the late 1960s in San Francisco, and this is a true trip to past of the music in San Francisco. and also the later years as a solo artist. it great to put on a disk and hear the past come to life once more.

Best Soundtrack of Clapton's Journey
Not only is Slowhand God, playing his heavenly hand of guitar to thrill you to the core, he is also sharing his journey with us through this compilation. If you can help buying just the one Clapton CD, get this one which represents the best soundtrack of his journey both musical and personal. Of course there are the all time favourites such as "Tears in Heaven", "My Father's Eyes", "Bad Love", "Forever Man", "Motherless Child", "Let it Grow", "Cocaine", "I Shot the Sheriff", "Lay Down Sally"(but where is Tulsa Time), "Layla", "Wonderful Tonight", "Promises", "Pretending", "Riding with the King", "Ride the River" the list just goes on. You will find yourself immersed in each track from start to finish and it's like Clapton confiding in you his very innermost feelings through his music. "Tears in Heaven" and "My Father's Eyes" in particular are the case in point which Clapton says "... the songs just grew out of me and I played them over and over again to keep myself afloat.." after the tragic death of his 4-year-old son. You will love the inclusion of the live recording of Layla and Running on Faith (Unplugged) as well as the liner notes which are well produced with many rare pictures of Clapton in various phases of his life. What could be more satisfying than listening to the Complete Clapton CD, reading Clapton: The Autobiography on a swing chair in the garden surrounded by sweet scented blossoms in a lazy afternoon? Life is good. Go on, get yourself the whole package of the CD and book and you will know exactly what I mean.

The Best of the Clapton Compilations
The "Complete Clapton" is the best of the compilations because it covers his work from Cream to the 2006 Road to Escondido with JJ Cale. So many of the others cover only the 70s. I bought this copy for my son who is a techno freak. He needs to get back to the musical artistry he was raised with. As the chief executive of the Royal Albert Hall said at the end of the "24 Nights": "We have had many stars at the Albert Hall. Eric is THE star." As good as it is, the "Complete Clapton" does have a major flaw: Clapton's work in the blues genre is almost totally ignored, despite Clapton's statement that this is the most important music to him. Out of 36 tracks, only five are the blues. Clapton focused on the blues in the sixties and seventies, although Cream could be considered an exception. But there is always "Crossroads." Even in the eighties when he was basically a pop star, every album but one has a blues track, and he seems to have played with the blues giants at every opportunity. It baffles me that the compilation mentions only "Riding with the King" as a blues album and completely ignores "From the Cradle" and "Me and Mr. Johnson." Clapton's blues work in the seventies is covered by the compilation "Blues." I can only hope that someone will do the same for the importance of the blues during the rest of his incredible career. Despite my complaints, the "Complete Clapton" is well worth purchasing because it's the most complete compilation we have so far. All of the albums mentioned are available from Amazon.

Not as "Complete" as it should be...
This 2-CD set is the best you'll find in Eric Clapton's long musical history. Most of his songs are on here in chronological order from the 1960s to the 2000s, pristinely remastered. We get five songs from Cream (including "Sunshine of Your Love" and "White Room"), one from Blind Faith ("Presence of the Lord"), two from Derek and the Dominos (including "Layla"), most of his solo hits ("After Midnight", "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", "Wonderful Tonight", "Lay Down Sally", "Cocaine", "I Shot the Sheriff", "Promises", "I Can't Stand It", "Forever Man", "Tears in Heaven", "Motherless Child", "Change the World", and a great rendition of "Sweet Home Chicago"), and two duet hits ("Riding With the King" with B.B. King and "Ride the River" with JJ Cale). We get both versions of "Layla" and the Unplugged version of "Running on Faith"; however, my main problem with this collection is that there are 2 glaring omissions that could've been added to Disc 2: "Before You Accuse Me" from 1989's "Journeyman" album, and "After Midnight" (the slow version) from his 1988 CD box set "Crossroads". It really bothers me that these were not added on, as they are two of Eric's very best and deserve to be on this compilation (and I prefer the slow version of AM). It would've been nice to be able to play them here, as I won't buy the box set and the album that contain them. Luckily, I have high-quality MP3s of these songs. The 2 missing selections are the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.

This CD is representative of Clapton's entire career.
I think this CD is nearly an entire career in scope. It has entries from his early years with Cream, Derick and the Dominos, and Blind Faith. It then includes an extensive collection of his solo work. Eric Clapton is quite possibly the best blues guitarist of our time. (Of course that's only one man's opinion.) I love the CD and am happy to add it to my collection.

One of the best if not THE BEST Eric Clapton compilation CD. I am a big Clapton fan--of the guitar playing, his singing voice and the man himself. Great and awesome tracks from his days with Blind Faith, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes to his highly successful solo career. About 36 tracks, on 2 CDs. My only one complaint is it doesn't feature Concert For George, Eric's live performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, which always gives chills. But yes I am impressed with this compilation which I wanted for 2 years Major complaints. It's cool to hear his voice during the timeline of Eric in his 20s to Eric in his 70s. There will never be another Eric Clapton when he retires (he has gone deaf I one ear, and his hands have nerve problems, making it a little difficult for him to play) But he won't stop till he literally can't play anymore. Clapton isn't God, but he's pretty damn near
