This book will cover Staccato and Legato and how to use fingers independently (all 5). You will also work on Forte, Piano and arm/hands motions. That's about it. If you feel it's too easy, move on to the next level. However my 4 y.o. hates it (and I see how an older child would too). This is the "annoying" part that we always begin the lesson with (to warm up and get it over with). There are no real tunes, pure work on technique. It uses a lot of music patterns, so I believe it could be used even with a child who can't read sheet music yet (this is purely an assumption as i'm not a teacher).

Not for beginners but a great book
The book is great and very useful for my son who is starting out his piano journey but already taking piano lessons for 2 years now. This book is helping us prepare for his ABRSM exam so both (techniques and music) books are a good balance for the course requirements.

if you have beginner child learning piano and youre struggling with the Royal conservatory of music beginner book program, STOP NOW. start your kids on NANCY FABER series books starting from Primer Level books and continuing on until kids have a GOOD BASELINE grasp of piano. i cant stress enough how AWESOME nancy faber books teach young 5-7 yr old kids PROPER piano with FUN. Accompnay these books with an honest GOOD teacher (plus practise) and your kids will be off to a good baseline start to Royal conservatory of music books. i started with Royal conservatory of music with my kids... they struggled HARD. it was frustrating. then i "reset" and went with these FABER books and now its almost NEVER a struggle to have kids learn piano. I'm pretty sure once they grasp fundamentals, they will be much more successful appreciating piano with Royal conservatory of music books.
