Diasporican: A Puerto Rican Cookbook [Maisonet, Illyanna, Liberti, Dan, Rodriguez, Erika P., Twitty, Michael W.] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Diasporican: A Puerto Rican Cookbook Review: Engaging, Funny, Authentic - I love that the author writes in a very casual, down-to-earth, relatable way. You can tell that the recipes are authentic family recipes, and the anecdotes she uses illustrate that. I haven't tried the recipes yet; I just got interested in Puerto Rican food and tried to make a Pernil the past 2 Thanksgivings. They were okay- well the pork skin was phenomenal but the rest of the pork was just okay. I had made those pernils based on an internet recipe, so I thought I'd find a Puerto Rican cookbook that would have a better recipe for Pernil. This one definitely delivers. Although I haven't tried the pernil recipe yet, I definitely will and it looks a lot more authentic and precise than the other recipe I was using. The photos in this book are phenomenal and the colors and graphic design of the book are fantastic as well. Love it! If you're looking to try some traditional Puerto Rican recipes, this is for you! Review: More than just a cookbook - As a Puerto Rican that grew up in New England it has been a lifelong endeavor to stay close to my heritage - this is the cookbook I have been searching for my whole life. What Ilyanna has done here is truly remarkable. This book paints a picture of Puerto Rican cuisine not only through recipes and photos but through intimate stories and research that provides historical context for why these dishes are so important and should matter not only to Puerto Ricans but to the food world at large. This book is a joy to read from the colorful photos to the beautiful writing to the delicious recipes. donโt let my talk of her writing fool you - these recipes are amazing and everything I have made has turned out so delicious. This book is more than just a cookbook because it is a memoir, a reference book, and an art piece. Do yourself a favor and buy this book.

Overall authentic puerto rican recipes
I'm puerto rican and wanted to check out this book. I'll never get used to the author's abrasive writing style but the content of the book is very informative and captures Puerto Rican culture nicely. The recipes are good and you can make them easily at home without having to stray to far from your current ingredient list.

Funny and delicious
I have made about 4-5 recipes from this book. It reminds me of Dishoom in its layout and storytelling. Itโs funny and beautiful and captures the heart of Puerto Rico. Highly recommend.

Revised Review, Great Gift for Boyfriend
I left a negative review originally based on the imperfections on the cover, but honestly after giving this book to my boyfriend on Christmas I had to revise my review. He was so excited looking through this book and was excited showing recipes to his family. I donโt agree with a handful of the negative reviews for this cookbook on here.

More than a cookbook
Nice pictures of places in Puerto Rico that made me homesick accompanied with interesting stories about different towns where certain foods came from. As far as the recipes are concerned I found them easy and doable. However, I found that for a true island Puerto Rican, the amount of recipes of typical Puerto Rican dishes were limited.

A must have!
Great book! Amazing story! The recipes look amazing. I'm very very happy with this purchase! I definitely recommend! I don't understand why booksellers do not include the table of contents in their photos of the book... So here you go :-)
