The Prologue is both an explanation of the author's complex group of reasons for her condition and seemingly somewhat of a catharsis. The Introduction retells much earlier material, but again may be helpful to some readers. The Table of Contents is extensive, providing a reader exactly what is contained in each section and chapter. The Appendices include Recommended Reading which should provide additional valuable information for the individual looking for help and a most interesting series of questions by which an individual can determine whether he/she was abused as a child and the extent of such abuse. Also included: a wealth of data with respect to sources of both good and bad foods and supplements with lengthy listings and descriptions of them along with recipes for use of some; lists of some detergents and plastics and their deleterious effects along with explanations of how all of these substances affect/aid or damage individual organs during their interdependent activity. And of course, the need is stressed for self-analysis because of the almost overriding influence of tension and the part played by mental attitudes requiring positive thinking. Most interesting is the fact that this author not only repeatedly stresses these factors but actually provides methods for indulging in the required introspection as well as for bodily evaluation.Conclusion: An approach to ridding oneself of autoimmune, more specifically thyroid, disease has been offered that includes helpful step by step methods of accomplishing the objective. A certain amount of redundancy and repetition can be annoying, but the book is recommended reading for affected individuals particularly, as well as for uninformed readers for the wealth of information about bodily parts and their `interfunctional' activity.

As we delve in we see that the book is divided into 4 parts. The first part is awareness. In this Michelle goes into great detail to explain the functions of our immune system and the purpose of our thyroid. She also shares with us the many medical approaches to dealing with this disorder and helps the reader to better understand the causes as well as see the connections between events and things we've allowed into our life to the autoimmune disorder.The second part we see is transformation. Now that we've assessed the problem and connected it to something in our lives both physical or emotional it's time to fix the problem. Michelle helps us use nutrition to detox and restore our bodies to a cleaner healthier being, by specifically addressing our gut and liver as well as stress.The third and fourth parts are more concise, yet still greatly beneficial.The third part is just as important as the last in that we learn the connection of mind and body. The author stresses positive thinking and forgiveness to self. The last part is a compilation of interviews with different doctors who are making a difference in the autoimmune disorder world. I greatly recommend this book to anyone who is dealing with, or knows someone dealing with, any type of thyroid autoimmune disorder as I believe it contains the best encouragement and challenges to help anyone begin a new life.

After being told by my endocrinologist that there was nothing that could be done apart from taking medication, i started researching what was out there and found this book. Its not woo woo. I have found it to be very practical and useful. i am just starting Phase 1 and so will come back after 90 days to let you know how i got on with the tests but i do feel better already. My biggest bug bear is my sweet tooth which I'm hoping that I can tame or at least sate it with fruit rather than processed foods. I am grateful to people like Ms Corey who have the guts to say that it is possible to be healed when conventional wisdom says no. she then goes on to show you how, science, letter to your doctor, meal plans, supplement list and all. Yes, there is a section on emotions and stuff that need to be released - but hey, guess what? that is also a part of healing. science has shown that having a positive attitude and releasing old 'stuff' - forgiveness - helps healing. Why do you think those cancer hospitals have classes in mindset as well as chemo and all the other scientific stuff? its all part of healing. we are not just a bundle of chemicals we are also made up of our feelings and our past. Anyway, that was to answer someone who poo pood this info in this book as just woo woo. It isn't. I have read more than one Thyroid/autoimmune book. this is a good one. I'm sure if I'm disciplined and follow her advice, i will see results. I'll be back in Feb to let you know how it's gone.

She also offers information on a thyroid cure and repair program which includes optimizing our nutrition, reducing our stress and healing our gut, among many others. While The Thyroid Cure contains very specific information for curing thyroid-related issues, Corey takes the approach that it’s important to listen and understand what your body is telling you. She also offers some solid advice when she says that help comes from unexpected places and that we should never hesitate to reach out and accept help when it’s offered. It’s also important to seek an second opinion or a third, if necessary. As the author herself states, The Thyroid Cure is meant to arm the reader with knowledge to bring the core systems of our bodies back into balance so that we can cure ourselves. Whether you believe that or not is up to you but there’s no denying the rationale that our bodies are made up of many parts and if one part doesn’t work, that will affect how the other parts function. Hence, curing the ‘other parts’ of our bodies will help in curing that which truly ails us. A recommended read for all of us who are trying to understand our bodies better.
