Why I bought the Instant Pot IP-DUO Plus60 9-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker, 6 Qt
Instant Pot IP-DUO Plus60 9-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker, 6 Qt - I've wanted a PC for a long time and have done a lot of research. I was originally leaning towards the PPCXL because that's what my cousin has, but I did some more research and ended with this one, waiting until the Duo Plus came out. So, since I'm the 4th reviewer, here's some of the thought process I went through in deciding to get the DUO Plus and also some thoughts on the IP vs the PPCXL and also other considerations on accessories, size, etc. So far, I've only had it a few days, but overall satisfied and plenty of online support for recipes and helping you decide the post PC for your needs. **Why I went with the Instant Pot (IP) duo60 Plus - Three new preset buttons - cake, egg, sterilize. It also had the yogurt function which other IP do, but not some of the other makes. Large LCD Screen with Digital Display Mute button for those beeps in the night when cooking yogurt etc. Plus / Minus button for both time and pressure Keep Warm Selector can be selected to on or off at anytime. Delay start of 24 hours and keep warm for 10 hours. Lid rest (right or left side) **Why I went with IP vs PPCXL - Food Grade 304 (15/8) stainless steel pot vs stainless steel with teflon coating. I felt I could scrub and treat the pot however I wanted and not worry about scratching and what utensils to not use. Yes, you can buy a replacement inner pot for a Teflon pot, but after I spend $100+ I really don't think I should have to buy a replacement inner pot. Some of the FB group users are fine with the Teflon pot, but there are also a lot of complaints, so it might be in the handling, but every Teflon pan I ever had eventually got tossed out because of the coating coming off. IP came with some of the accessories you pay for on the PPCXL. It had the trivet with handles, condensation collector, Rice Paddle & spoon and a couple intro guides/cookbooks. Free shipping for IP. PPCXL site wanted $29.99 Buttons weren't quite clear on PPCXL site so it made me think they were hiding lack of selection on preset buttons. Also, confusing on what you were buying - regular PPC or PPCXL. A lot of their verbiage refers to PPCXL, but not necessarily when you go select your items for your shopping cart. Yogurt Button - The IP has this and the PPCXL doesn't. The IP allows you to bring the milk to 185 in the IP, cool to 120 (I will be using the quick cool method in the sink) and then put in yogurt mode for incubation (8-12 hours). The PPCXL doesn't have this and you wrap it and put it in the oven. Warranty on IP is 1 year and I went with the Square Trade Warranty for 4 years for an additional $14.37. No deductible, no hidden fees, no shipping, transferable. PPC has 60 day money back/replacement. After that up to one year you have to pay $24.99 for shipping. Their extended warranty if $15 for 3 years. Slow Cooker Mode had a low, medium and high heat button. IP has a + and - sign to increase or decrease the time. Others you have to select a preset and keep pressing to increase, you can't decrease time. Overall ratings - IP 4.7 and PPCXL 4.1. I read through a lot of comments by verified buyers and the PPC owners seemed a lot more upset with customer service. I looked through a lot of Reviewers who do this for a living or at least blog and they leaned towards the IP. I messaged with the PPCXL people online and you can tell they've been coached for answers knowing what their down faults are and not really answering the question or referencing what you know is a negative. There are more IPs on the market and most recipes are geared towards it from a "preset button" perspective. IP has a left and right handle that will hold your lid tilted. I belong to a Pressure Cooker group - there are a lot of complaints about other manufacturer's instructions, quick start guide, etc. Lots of issues with lids locking, not pressurizing etc and I really don't see this for the Instant Pot family of PCs. **Sizing - I measured my crock pot which was 6 quart, so that's what I ordered. It's an OK size for 2 people, but since you can only fill it 2/3 full when cooking under pressure you should take that into consideration. I figure on a roast, I will do the meat first, then veggies. The 6 quart will hold four pint canning jars for sterilization. **Accessories - What else to buy? I got the OXO Good Grips steamer with extendable handle and a pack of 3-IP Rings color coded (dark for savory meats, orange for desserts and I will use the clear for yogurt). I had read they were dishwasher safe, but not 100% as they might keep flavors. On my next order I'm looking at 2 cookbooks (IP Electric Pressure Cooker Cookbook for $9 and IP Obsession for $12). There are plenty of Facebook Group pages you can join for recipes too and online reviewers. Just type in what you are making followed by "in a pressure cooker" or "in an IP". I'm also buying IP Silicone Mitts for easy removal of a hot pot since I will be making yogurt ($10). The only negative of the Instant Pot is you can't get a 10 quart and if I had a REALLY big family that would be the only reason, but based on the above, I would probably just buy a 2nd Instant Pot. I hope this is helpful. I did a lot of research and felt the need to share it. I will update this as I use it and get additional questions. 8/9/2017 update - I've been using my IP for a few months now. I use my steamer basket and trivet a lot. I make a "bowl" out of heavy duty foil and put on the trivet when making a whole chicken and it makes trivet clean-up easier. I bought an IP plain glass lid for slow cooker & yogurt mode. I don't use my extra rings cause I use my plain lid for yogurt, so no use to swap rings. I didn't get the silicone mitts. I realized I didn't need them. My inner pot doesn't get that hot on yogurt mode. I like the 2 cookbooks. I use Bar Keeper Friend to clean the pot. Still really happy with my IP-DUO Plus 60. I'm part of a FB PC group and I don't see complaints on the IP. Very happy with my purchase. 12/29/2017 update - So on Black Friday I bought the 3 qt Instant Pot because I felt like I need to have twins. It's a great size and great for sides and especially my 2 quart of yogurt I make at least weekly, so it doesn't tie up my 6 qt IP. We winter in FL and I was able to "sneak" the 6 qt into the truck and now I have the 3 qt here too. I made an entire Thanksgiving dinner for Christmas (Irma got in our way last month repairing) in the 2 pots. In future years, I'll prob just bring the 3 qt cause it fits better in my cabinets in the mobile home.

Indispensable upgrade to the classic slow cooker
When my old slow cooker committed suicide (our neighbor's construction work caused the inner stoneware liner to leap off of the drying rack and shatter on the floor), I took advantage of the opportunity to upgrade to an Instant Pot. I'd been hearing so much about how fast and easy they make cooking. The first week I had it, I made a different recipe in it every night. Lasagna, macaroni and cheese, hearty mushroom and barley stew, and many others. We quickly realized that the Instant Pot cooks pasta completely differently from the regular method of boiling it. And it tastes amazing. The pasta cooks through completely, yet remains substantial to the bite. We cook all of our pasta in the Instant Pot now, even if it's just spaghetti, not a full meal. We've sautéed in it, steamed, pressure cooked, and even made rice. Everything came out perfectly. I think I'd prefer to sauté things on the stovetop, simply because I don't like reaching down into a hot pot to stir things. But if you're a college student with no stove, it gives you a great option for more styles of cooking. One helpful tip I'd add is when releasing the pressure valve, make sure your Instant Pot is well away from walls and windows. Otherwise, you'll have to clean starchy water stains off of them. Now, I make sure it's got plenty of clearance, and that there's nothing on the counter that I don't want getting wet, and it's fine. I just wipe up the moisture that condenses as part of kitchen cleanup. We love the instant pot so much, we haven't put it away since we got it! We use it a couple of times a week at least.

I LOVE my Instapot!
I purchased a different brand years ago. I never got it to operate properly. So, I gave up. I love pressure cooking so I was looking for a regular stovetop pressure cooker when I saw this Instapot on sale. The price was great so I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad that I did! I use my Instapot almost every day. I enjoy trying new recipes and I love how quickly I can cook frozen meats. I will say that it was difficult for me to see which direction the pressure release was open and which was closed (I have vision problems) and pressure cooking can be dangerous. So before using this, and other brands, be certain that you are very familiar with the switch! Also, I burned a meal or two until I got the hang of it. But the great thing about this pot is that if you do burn something, it flashes lights and beepers to let you know! Um, use the wrack provided… just sayin’.

Decent appliance but smaller capacity than desired
While not as large as I envisioned (do not judge by the appearance) - the stainless steel interior pot is smaller than one might imagine as it cannot be filled to the top), it does a pretty good job. I have used the pressure cook function which was as expected (though not quite as wonderful as the old-style pressure cookers from the 50s and 60s). I also used the saute function to brown the meat I used in my recipe - because of the small surface area of the bottom of the pot, one does have to stir the meat being browned more frequently for even browning. I used it for making chicken and dumplings so far. Unless you are making a very small quantity, you'll have to cook the dumplings after the meat is removed. I used the slow-cooker function to cook the broth overnight, removed the meat, then used the regular cooking function to cook the dumplings in the broth. All-in-all, it's a decent enough appliance, but does not have the capacity one might desire if cooking a large batch of food for freezing, etc. It's fine for a single person or a couple, but for a family, it's kinda small.

A Cooks Best Friend!
This instant pot is a life changer. No more spending hours int he kitchen cooking a meal. An entire well balanced meal can be cooked in as little as 25 to 30 minutes. If it is a 'one pot meal' that can be done even quicker. I LOVE THIS POT! I bought an extra inner pot so I just swap out the pot with the completed meal (e.g. rice) and just continue with the other (e.g. chicken/veges). It is not loud at all like the pressure cookers of the past. It transforms meat from tough to tender in a very short time. I love the saute function. What's stopping you? Go get yours today! Items do not stick. once there is sufficient water.

10/10 would recommend to everyone
Best item I’ve bought in years! I use my instant pot almost daily. I love how quickly I can get dinner on the table. It’s a great size for my family of 3 ( with plenty of left overs). It’s pretty quiet unless I manually release the pressure. The only problems I’ve had was from human error ( mainly the seal not being put on properly, oops 🙊). Overall I love it! I would buy it again ( on prime day 😅).

Great appliance, small learning curve involved
Great appliance to have around. There are some really helpful (and some not-so-helpful) YouTube tutorials out there on how to operate this thing. But here is my experience with it, and hopefully someone finds this helpful.... (1) I don't use this to steam rice. I absolutely could, but rice is not a staple at our house. I've so far used it for chicken stew, pulled chicken, and pot roast. I will update my review as I've had more time to experiment with other dishes. (2) For my purposes, there are only a couple of buttons I ever use: Pressure Cook, Start, and Cancel. There is also a valve on the top that you'll want to release when your food is done cooking. Steam will come screaming out of it, so just don't have your face hovering right over the top. When the valve goes back down, that means the pressure has equalized again, and it is safe to remove the lid. (3) The inner pot and the lid are both dishwasher safe. (4) When storing, do NOT seal the lid back onto the pot. Any smells will get trapped inside, and you'll be in for an unpleasant surprise next time you get it out to cook. I leave the lid upside down on top of the pot when storing. Some basic instructions for cooking, say, a pot roast or chicken stew: (1) Before cooking, they generally recommend sauteing the meat first in a pan, then put it in the Instant Pot. Sometimes I do a sauté, sometimes I forget, and it's fine. Remember to fill with liquid to the top of the solid food ingredients. (2) I've never messed with the pressure setting, I leave it on (I think) high pressure. Temperature--I keep it between 16 and 20 minutes, depending on the volume of food I'm cooking. (3) Hit the Pressure Cook button. At the top of the screen you'll see the Pre-Cooking meter light up. This is the Instant Pot pressurizing itself. When it reaches pressure, it'll beep, and you'll hit the Start button. (4) When the Instant Pot is finished cooking, it will beep, and you can hit the valve switch on the lid to release pressure. Again, steam is going to shoot out. Leave the lid on until the valve goes back down. I have the 6-qt pot, and this seems to be ideal for my purposes. If I was feeding a ton of people, I'd go for the next size up. I would not recommend going down a size unless I was maybe a college student or bachelor.

I've used these for well over 15 years and have loved every minute.
If you have never used these before and are looking for a pot that cooks just about anything in less than it would normally on the stovetop, take the leap. I did so many years ago. My reason for getting this in the first place way back when was because I used to make rice everyday. After several expensive rice makers, they all had the same thing in common after a year or so. The non stick pot inside would start to peel away and to replace these was almost the price of what the Instant Pot was at the time. So the NUMBER ONE REASON I bought Instant pot in the first place was for the Stainless Steel pot on the inside. Amazing, and I pray that they don't turn to the non stick pots ever. I know that some of the other products they have do have the non stick pots, like in the air fryers. I do have an air fryer with the non stick and I am not happy about that, but I love the fryer aspect of it. There you have it folks, as a general rule of thumb, I tend to replace electronic cookware after about 10-15 years. I use these almost every single day, so I am very pleased with the company. Customer Service is also very responsive, so all in all a good choice. Real bang for your buck!

Y no me arrepiento!
