If you've struggled with yellow algae, apply this product to your routine ASAP...
I can't believe that for several years, I thought brushing off yellow algae every other day was a fact of life for certain pool owners, like myself. That due to our location, proximity to certain trees, and whatnot, that mustard algae was a fact of life. It is not folks, ever since I discovered this product, I am on cruise control. But you simply can't pour this thing in without rolling up your sleeves and doing some initial clean-up to allow the algaecide to work its best. This was my recipe. 1. Scrub everywhere you see algae. You'll be shocking your pool after, but you want to scrub and clean so the chlorine can be most effective. Any spores that survive can respawn easily. So scrub, scub, scub!! 2. Clean your filter good!!! Check your pump basket. The clear lid of my pump basket had yellow and green spots, that's algae... clean it! 3. If you have an automatic pool filler. Take it apart and clean it, you'll be surprised at the gush of yellow cloudy water coming out. 4. After cleaning up and busting up all the algae, double shock your pool. Whatever is your normal shock dosage, double it. 5. After shocking, immediately apply the Clorox product. Follow the Clorox initial dosage for the algaecide & clarifier. They have two types of initial dosage, one where algae is present, and one where algae isn't. For me, of course algae was present, so I follow that dosage. 6. Now, let the filter run for 24 hours. I let mine run at 2000 rpm. My pool is about 13k gallons. 7. That's it... your pool will be sparkling the next day, and here on after, you just need to maintain your pool as you normally do, but with the addition of the clorox algaecide + clarifier WEEKLY dosage. The weekly dosage is much less than the initial dosage. For me, a bottle will last me FOUR weekly dosages. It has been about 6 months now, and I've been on auto-pilot. I haven't had to scrub any yellow algae from my walls. Understand that before this product, simply cleaning my filter and shocking DID NOT work. The algae would come back a week later. I always thought these types of products are a waste of money. That all I needed to do was clean my filter and shock, and if that didn't work, then algae was simply a fact of life for where I live. I was wrong!!! This is a supplementary product you need to battle algae, and it 100% works. I was expecting to still scrub normal non-yellow dirt and debris off my walls, but as it turns out, there is no such thing as "normal" dirt and debris. Turns out the algae spores were the reason why dirt and debris would stick. So you either have yellow walls, or clean walls, there's no in between. Debris shouldn't be sticking when you have no algae. Scrubbing yellow spots from my pool every other day was a fact of life for me, for a couple of years. Not anymore. 5-Stars. OCT 6, 2025 UPDATE: -------------------------- So I did my filter clean this past Sunday. I try to do it every 4 months. Prior to using algaecide and clarifier, the cartridge would be completely yellow/brownish. Yesterday, I only saw normal dirt, completely gray and black. So that means this product is working. During this time, I will also do a more thorough check of the automatic pool filler by disengaging the garden hose, and flipping it upside down to clean the inside. Again, prior to using Clorox, the white plastic floater would be very yellow. Yesterday, I did noticed yellow and green spots on the white plastic floater, not as bad as before, but you can tell it was starting to spawn. So the automatic pool filler is definitely the weak spot in the system, which makes sense. Debris can get under and inside the filler. Also, my robot skimmer isn't good at getting debris that's around the filler. And when I manually skim, using my foot, I would slide/move the filler along the edge of the pool, so I can get the debris that's surrounding it, but I don't flip it over. So for your weekly dosage routine, I also recommend taking this time to flip over your pool filler and give it a good cleaning as well. I'm still absolutely ecstatic about this product. After using it for half a year, the only spot to develop algae was this automatic pool filler, and it wasn't much. But now I'll check it every week, and completely eliminate this weak spot. OCT 19, 2025 UPDATE: --------------------------- Okay, so I can't emphasize enough... the automatic pool filler is 100% the weak point. At least in my case. In my last update, I said I would check it every week to eliminate this weak spot. But I was simply flipping it over, without undoing the garden hose, to observe the white floater container. If it had no green or yellow stains on it, I thought I was good. I just sprayed any grime on the container with my garden hose. I did the same today, but when I turned the water back on, a gush of yellow cloud came out. So obviously, something had been building inside. But again, not strong enough to cause yellow walls due to my weekly dosage. But now I must stress, every week when you do your weekly dosage, undo the automatic pool filler. Even if the container looks white, the spores are probably spawning at the connectors and garden hose head. Disengage these components and clean them. And when you connect the garden hose back, turn on the water, but do not put the filler in the pool yet. This is so if there is any gush of yellowy stuff, it won't go in your pool. This should be my last update. LOL! Good luck! MARCH 16, 2026 UPDATE: ------------------------------- Bi-Monthly dosage schedule?? Promise! This will be my last update. But I wanted to share an observation. About 3 weeks ago in Southern California, it was very windy, and a lot of leaves got in my pool. In these 3 weeks, I was slipping. Too lazy to clean the pool, and my robot was under the pool out of battery during this time too. LOL! I did not keep up with the algaecide dosage either. Truth be told, even prior to these 3 weeks, I wasn't dosing my pool weekly, it was more like every other week, and then this past weekend made it 3 weeks without dosage. To my surprise... still no algae. My pool was a mess, but still no algae. So what I'm saying is, you may get away with not dosing weekly. At the beginning, I dosed according to instructions, and one bottle lasted me one month. I think I will do it bi-monthly now, so that a bottle will last for 2 months. Like I said, I had tested bi-monthly prior to this 3 week stretch, but I wasn't sure. Now that I've seen that after 3 weeks of zero maintenance and a pool full of dirt and leaves, and I still have no yellow algae... I think the bi-monthly schedule is a keeper. Now go stretch your dollar!

I highly recommend Clorox Swimming Pool Algaecide and Clearifier 5 STARS
Clorox Pool and Spa, siwmming pool algaecide and clarifier is an excellent product to help homeowners maintain their swimming pool including salt-water pools. Even if your pool is green and you can't see the bottom, pour the amount suggested on the label and in a couple days your pool will be absolutely crystal clear. I have not noticed a change in PH level but I have noticed this is the only chemical that was able to treat and clear a pool that has not had proper maintence for a while. I'm a disabled veteran and I still try to maintain my own pool but at times I can't get to it. In a nutshell, this stuff safes me time, effort and a ton of money not having to have someone else come clean my pool. NOW!!!! You still have to do some maintenance, sweeping the bottom, cleaning the filter and debris collectors, but Clorox has made the job dramitically easier. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Economical solution that works really well
This stuff holds up and actually surpasses some of the big boy chemicals you can get. It clears up the water, coagulates all the fine particles of algae for vacuuming and the price is right.

Bad batch maybe??? Black flakes!
First time self pool cleaning and took everyone's advice on using Liquid Chlorine and this Clorox Algaecide + Clarifier. They work well on keeping my pool blue and clean and not having to go back to bad Pool men! So much so that I put it on my monthly subscribe and save! But maybe my second order was bad? I spent close to an hour cleaning my pool today and finished with pouring some of this in and black flakes came out!! I didn't have this issue with my first bottle. Bad batch maybe??? Watch video. Sorry, I hate that I couldn't hold my phone centered on the cup and the Clorox bottle at the same time I picked up the bottle to pour, but I guarantee you I did not add anything to the liquid or switch bottles!!

GREAT POOL WATER PRODUCT
Great for keeping your pool clean, well worth the money. I actually saved money buying this, use less and I stopped buying all the other water cleaners.

Works Great!
Works great! My pool was green and cloudy. Dumped a gallon of this stuff in, let it run overnight and it cleared up crystal clear by morning! Don’t forget to backwash your filter.

Works as intended
Price is good, I've seen some more expensive and some cheaper but I know this product works so I'll keep using it. It brought all the algae to the bottom so the vacuum could pick it up. Was able to get my pool back clear after winter neglect.

Works but Not Without Issues
I bought the Clorox Pool&Spa Algaecide and Clarifier hoping to keep my pool crystal clear all season long, and in many ways, it delivered. The product did prevent algae growth effectively and cleared up the water noticeably within a few days. The size of the bottle means you get quite a bit for the price, which is great for larger pools, and it feels like a solid investment in pool maintenance. Applying it according to the instructions was straightforward and didn’t mess with the water balance too much. That said, I ran into a problem that a bunch of others seem to have faced too—the product sometimes leaves a cloudy residue in the pool after use. It happened with my application, and honestly, it was annoying to deal with. On top of that, my bottle had a weak cap seal causing a small leak during storage, which I think is a defect specific to my item, not all of them. It made me question the packaging quality control, and it added an unnecessary hassle on top of the cloudiness issue I had to clear up. I’d say this product is a cautiously recommended buy if you want decent algae control and can tolerate some extra pool maintenance afterward. The core function works, but the inconvenience of cloudiness and packaging defects drags the experience down. Three stars feels fair because it does the job, but it’s not as simple and flawless as the marketing suggests. If these issues were fixed, it could easily be a much stronger pick for pool owners.
