Climbing Mug with Real Climbing Hold - Gift for Rock Climbers, Porcelain

Bought as a gift for a climbing fanatic and she loved it! Good quality, not sure I would be able to drink from it though with that handle 😂

Not the cheapest nor most practical mug, but it is a great gift/joke for a bouldering fan.

My friend who I bought this for is a keen climber and was made up with it for her birthday. Great to practice hand-grip. Really good quality and sturdy. Good design and value for money.

The mug is brilliant. It's a Christmas present for my son. So I can't give feedback on how well the grip will work when the mug has fluid in it.

Good gift but the grip is very soft, not much of a challenge to grip.

My son is into ‘bouldering’ - scaling those artificial climbing walls that are set with the rubber hand-grip lumps - so this looked like a fun little novelty gift for him. In case you haven’t realised the joke, the handle of the mug is made of one of those hand-grip units screwed into the side of the mug. He was very tickled by the idea. Whilst it is a ‘proper’ mug, in that you can put drinks in it and drink out of it, it isn’t the most practical of drinking cups. For a start the handle, although made of shaped rubber which has a little ‘give’ in it, is not the most comfortable or practical to hold securely, especially if the thing’s full of hot tea or coffee. You have to grip around the handle with your fingertips (as you would hold one of the blocks when climbing - obviously!) because there’s no hole through to slip any of your fingers. Without the hole, you can hold the handle but not as comfortably or as securely as you’d normally want with a mug. Secondly, the hand-grip is screwed onto the mug with a metal hex-head bolt - which, of course, gives it authenticity, as that’s what they use on climbing walls. But it does mean that, if you are in the habit of popping your cup into the microwave to reheat you drink when it’s cooled down, it would not be a good idea with this mug and could even become a fire hazard. There is a little sticker on the side of the mug when it arrives which does warn you not to put it in your microwave (which is a good thing because I don’t know if I’d have thought of it otherwise.). However, if you take the sticker off or it comes off with repeated washing up, it might be quite easy to forget this precaution, especially if used by someone who hadn’t seen it when it first came out of the box with its warning label. So, a fun gift for a climber but ultimately more of a novelty, maybe to put on a shelf and smile at occasionally, than to regularly drink out of.
