This is a very good light and that isn't considering the low price. It's just good in general. The price makes it even better. The light itself appears to be built well. Light is a bit of a cooler tone but almost neutral. Hotspot in the center of the light is BRIGHT. Can illuminate things well at quite a distance. Beam itself isn't perfect but will not matter or even be noticed by virtually anybody buying it. The pressure switch works. It mounts fine. Everything works. Now I love paying for quality but I just cannot fathom how someone will spend $400+ on an arguably worse flashlight and a better pressure switch from a competitor. This is as good or better in ways for almost 1/3 the price. People say "oh the military uses that brand!" Great. Most police and fire departments use Streamlight and like them. Some say "oh the other brand is made in America!" Yeah they're an american company. They manufacture some things in the U.S. but look on the box or the light itself. You will not see "Made in U.S.A." on it, because there are parts of the light not made in America. Streamlight is also an American company. So you can spend 1/3 the money on this better flashlight trusted by our first responders or you can buy a 3x as expensive light that actually illuminates things worse and isn't even technically made in America. Either way you're supporting an American company. I'd highly recommend buying Streamlight.

I trust Streamlight as I have a TLR-7 and the build quality, fit and finish really impressed me for the price, and the brightness was very good (it’s bright enough that looking directly into it will nearly blind you temporarily). It also was great in how it attached, ease of use etc. I liked everything about it, so I went with Streamlight for this purchase as well. I have no complaints so far, it seems like a solid light and basically exactly what I expected (I haven’t used the switch, as I feel I can thumb the button just as easily with it on the left side, and won’t accidentally hit it). The brightness is just as strong as I expected as well. In regard to a review talking about getting a fake one, I did not (mid 2022). The build quality is just as I’d expect, it’s robust and the finish is very nice. It’s very easy to attach to a pic rail (if you have an MLOK guard you just need a little pic rail, they’re cheap), and it has a hand-tightening nut attaching it. The nut has a slot cut into it as well so you can use a tool (a knife, whatever fits) if you ever needed to loosen it if it seizes up a bit. The only thing that surprised me a bit was the size. It’s a little bigger than I expected and hoped for, but that’s why you should research before buying anything lol. It’s fine honestly, just a little larger than I realized. I would’ve preferred a slightly smaller/lighter light, but the fact that it’s big enough to be used by hand is probably a benefit anyway. I suppose it’s a normal size for a light of this nature, I have never owned one so it’s new for me. It looks a little big on the there in terms of aesthetics, that’s all. If anything goes wrong with it I’ll update. But as of now I recommend it and I definitely recommend Streamlight. I like their products.

This is my second Streamlight HL-X. The first one I purchased is the 88071, this is an 88066. I recommend going with the 88071 because it includes the Streamlight 18650 rechargeable battery - this model ships with two Streamlight CR123s. This was my fault, so I have not deducted any overall stars. The light itself has great output and is well constructed. Out of the box, you get the light, two batteries, a clicky tailcap, and a tape switch tailcap. It also comes with a piece of adhesive for the tailcap, two zip ties, and two rubber feet for attaching the tape switch to 1913 rails. My recommendation is to upgrade to a Cloud Defensive LCSMK2J tape switch mount, since the zip ties can get a bit unruly and the Cloud Defensive mount has better cable management. That being said, if you are just trying to get your firearm up and running, it is great that Streamlight includes a mounting solution. The tape switch itself is somewhat mushy but can be activated across the whole length of the switch, unlike some other options I have tried where you need to press directly in the middle. The constant activation button has a helpful shield around it to prevent unintentional activations, and I tend to mount my tape switches so that this button faces away from me. The Streamlight HL-X ships with a 1913 thumb screw mount installed in the box. This is an okay mount, but it is a bit on the bulky side. The HL-X is compatible with most Surefire Scout footprint mounts, so I replaced the included 1913 mount with a Magpul M-LOK offset Scout polymer mount and hardware from Arisaka defense. If you don't want to pay for the $3 in hardware, you can attach the 1913 thumb screw mount to the Magpul offset adapter as well since it has a slot for the cross bar. The main downside to the HL-X's mounting system is the screw body placement. Most Surefire Scout lights and other lights that use the same two hole mounting pattern bias the mounting holes to the rear of the light to move the light forward on the gun compared to the mount. Surefire does not do this - the holes are smack dab in the middle of the light body. Combine this with the already bulky nature of the Streamlight HL-X and you may have some packaging issues when trying to set up a weapon with limited rail space. I may eventually transition to a Haley Strategic Thorntail SBR mount to remedy this since it pushes the light even farther forward. I would simply go with a longer Arisaka in-line mount and put it on the 1:30 section of 1913 rail, but the screw hole location prevents you from using the Arisaka in-lines without modifying a hex key to tighten the hardware. Overall, for the price, I feel that this light, despite the bulk and mounting issues, is a solid contender for a carbine or shotgun. With some upgrades to accessories like a light mount and a tape switch mount I think the Streamlight HL-X will serve you well.

Amazing light. It mounts very easily to my rail and the attachment to turn it on/off/strobe also amounts very easily to the top of my rail so I can control it with my thumb. Strong light, great battery life. Not sure how size compared to others, but I am OK with the size of this as it isn’t too big in my opinion. buttons are also extremely smooth and low profile.

I’ve been using the same flashlight on patrol rifle at work for nearly 14 years, and after seeing some of these LED ones on coworkers rifles I decided I needed to make the switch from an incandescent one. Really the only thing preventing me from doing it in the first place was how much I spent on the first one. Needless to say the cost on this one was less than half of my original one, and the light is so much brighter and user friendly. First of all the light come with a rifle mounting kit which is awesome since my first light didn’t. It comes with several different attachment options for the pressure pad to make sure it fits your rifle no matter how you mount it or what type of hand guard you have. The different functions of the pressure pad are great too. In addition to the normal pressure pad function of light on while pressure applied and light off when pressure is taken off it also strobes if you apply pressure twice quickly. There is also an on/off button that will turn the light on like a normal flashlight and keep it on until you push the button again. This function goes against how we are trained, but I imagine it could be a useful function if you’re trained to use a light that way with a firearm. Bottom line, this is a great light that is definitely worth th price.

Awesome light for the price. When mounted properly this could be the last light you would ever need. You can mount it directly to a pic rail. You can also mount it to MLOK rails using the corresponding hardware. It's as bright as it should be, the hotspot is just right, and it has enough flood to use indirectly. The run time is close to what's advertised, and it maintains brightness well throughout. It's lightweight, but doesn't feel cheap. It includes a clicky end-cap switch as well as a pressure pad. This is the one limitation of the light, switch options are limited compared to more expensive lights, but there's no issues with what it has. Overall this is a great light and is well worth the purchase!

This is an awesome, sturdy weapon light. I’ve always trusted Streamlight, and this one definitely lives up to their reputation. I love that it comes with everything you need, including the tail cap and pressure switch, giving you flexibility depending on your setup or preference. Whether you’re mounting it on an AR for home defense, duty use, or training, this light performs flawlessly. It's a fantastic value, especially when you consider the solid performance and all the included accessories.

I picked this up and mounted it on my go-to equipment for emergencies. The light is incredibly bright, and the strobe feature is excellent for situations that may require its use. A single tap and hold on the pressure switch gives you a constant-on; a double-tap and hold gets you a strobe effect that would be disorienting to look at from the business end of the light. An easy-to-use switch at the end of the pressure switch gives you a continuous-on option if stealth isn't necessary. The light is of a reasonable size unless you're packing your rails full of other mods. The fact that it comes with both Pic rail and M-Lok compatibility is nice. The one caveat is that it does not readily mount on the Magpul MOE M-Lok forend due to the angle of the mount and the angle of the MOE guards. The Pic rail adapters for the pressure switch work well and don't come loose easily. It also comes with screws to ensure the switch and rail adapters do not separate in turbulent situations. Overall, I'm very pleased with this light.

Great light Very bright. Controls work not problem

I've got a bunch of other lights in the same "lumen" category, however this is the brightest 2xCR123a light that I own. The ability to switch between tailcap and pressure pad is also great. It's a shame it only support 1913 rail. I drilled out the holes on the end and put some M- LOK T-Tnuts through to direct mount on an M-LOK rail (pressure pad only - light still 1913). Still on my first set of batteries so can't talk about battery life and haven't had it long enough to weigh in on durability. For the price seems like a very high value light.

No complaints here I've used it on my .223 and my shotgun. It just plain works, and holds up to even using slugs. Solid choice.

Really like the light. The mounting system for the pressure pad on a picitany rail isn’t the greatest, the plastic parts it comes with hold it on but it’s not sturdy. I might replace them or do a different mounting system. Overall the light is very bright and mounts to the gun very nicely. Very happy with the purchase for the reasonable price point

Better than expected. Uses two different types of batteries! Versatile.
